Last night: winning leagues, VAR

Livingston’s return to action after the World Cup was postponed when the Pasta Plastic Pitch was frozen on Saturday.  That leaves them fresher than David Martindale would prefer, we can hope for a rusty performance at Celtic Park tonight.

Celtic comfortably disposed of them in late October, but they have been in fine form since, beating Kilmarnock and Aberdeen, and drawing at Tynecastle.  Their subsequent friendlies have provided encouragement: a narrow defeat to QPR and three goal wins over Latvians Liepaja and Dutch Fortuna Sittard.  I expect Celtic to win, but they will have to work for it.

Last night: that’s football.  If you think leagues are won the easy way you have not been watching as long as I have.  You don’t really want them easy either, if managers, players and clubs are not working hard, malaise can set in.  The handballs, VAR and consistency?  I asked that the SFA would use the World Cup break to train their referees and effect an interpretation of the handball rule that is consistent with The Rules of the Game.  Subsequent events will determine if this is the case, or if other acts are at play.  Most particularly on 2 Janaury.
