It will be off to Latvia to face Riga or, assuming they do not unexpectedly lose at home in the second round to Tre Fiori from San Marino. Riga lost their first round Champions League match away to Maccabi Tel-Aviv and went out at the same stage a year ago to Dundalk on penalties, before losing their Europa League play-off tie 3-2 on aggregate to Copenhagen, who went on to eliminate Celtic by a greater margin.
It is a tie we will win if we get everything right and will lose if there is anything remotely half-arsed going on. Riga are 17 games into their domestic season; be prepared, Celtic.
Watching the goals this morning from the 0-2 win at Ibrox a year ago today brought a reminder of where we were the morning of that game. Facing the perennial Summer Cup Champions [no, it’s not wartime] at their own place, having been turfed out of the Champions League by Cluj, we faced the longest odds for a league win in seven years.
That setup what may be become a fourth consecutive treble. Cluj hurt the bank balance but European credentials were restored with wins over Lazio and Rennes. We could do with a big game, a bit win, now.

WEEBOBBYCOLLINS
I don’t remember hoops,could have been.
I remember a Smith that played i think it might have been Walter.
United could easily have had a PK near the end.

We have a whean of players away this week, Duffy hopefully, Ajer, Ncham, Eddie, Connell, Klimala, El Hamed, Biton, Rogic, Mo Ely, Ajeti….that’s a fair whack of non Scots

I’m sure there will be and there will also a myriad of other potential problems.
But consider this: Thatcher would be kicked out of the Tory party for being too left wing if that old bitch were alive nowadays. Johnson/Cummings hate democracy and will do their best to destroy it in any meaningful sense. There is no essential difference between Putin, Trump and Johnson/Cummings – the only difference is practical ie Putin has consolidated his power and so can abuse it more. The chaos of brexit will give Johnson the opportunity to do just that in the uk. If we don’t get out before he does this we are screwed.
Obviously all this is just my opinion and I hope I’m wrong and come january brexit will be a resounding success and we’ll all be going for unicorn rides…. but there’s no evidence to suggest that this will happen. There is however evidence (as detailed in the book I mentioned to a previous poster – Democracy for Sale by Peter Geoghegan) that we’re in a fight against those who wish to destroy democracy in the uk. And at the moment we’re losing.
True, but they can still get injured
Agree frankterry: these winkers are no more tory than I am: they got lucky

Cheers. It’s a truly terrifying time when the president of the US is openly trying to corrupt the election. And Johnson is cut from the cloth.
*same cloth*
I was talking to a Welsh couple today and their biggest regret was not getting residency here when they arrived, they are finding it very hard now, the Spanish are making things very very difficult for them and the charges are now extortionate, it cost me nearly eff all when I did it in 2008, a French bloke that I see often tells me that the crossings are now a no mans land, a proper no mans land, the French don’t give a eff any more, they are mightily pissed off and are virtually letting everyone through, not that you will see or read anything about that on the MSM, but hey ho, it is what it is, the Brits are gonna suffer big time IMO, they really are not prepared for what’s gonna hit them, I also hope I am wrong, but I don’t think I will be.
That was worded wrongly, they are not bothering to stop folks attempting to board the trucks etc, apart for the odd token gesture, they reckon it’s the Brits problem now.
And given that IMO the main reason that the Brits voted for Brexit was to keep the colored folks out, they sure have effed it up
FRANKTERRY on 1ST SEPTEMBER 2020 9:22 PM
Have you considered that the people you mention (possibly excepting Johnson) might actually want Scotland to leave the UK?
Right that’s me done for the night, canny be arsed talking to masel, and I have things to do and little time do do them
Sleep well Timland

The Exiled Tim at 9.51 –
You’ve just reminded me of a memorable quote in the run up to the Brexit vote – Interviewer – “what’s your main reason for voting to leave the EU?” Voter – “The UK already has too many Pakistanis…” And I’m sure he wasn’t the only one with such warped logic!
THE EXILED TIM on 1ST SEPTEMBER 2020 9:59 PM
And I was just about to ask you about your swimming pool with the celtic badge as well, it sounded awesome :-)
(Apologies if that’s not you,it’s just i vaguely remember you posting about that years ago but maybe I’m mistaken?)
Tim Horton/WBC I believe the Smith that played for the Arabs that day was the long serving Doug Smith whose brother Dave played for deidco. The latter was a left half they signed fae the sheep. He was likened tae the 2nd best player tae come out of the Hill o’ Beath, unfortunately he also had an alleged bad habit his though was gambling.
I also believe he was eventually incarcerated but this was after he left ludge hades.
The Arabs played in black and white for years, in fact I believe it was after they changed their name fae Dundee Hibs and ditched their green and white strip. I recall seeing them at Boagheid in the early 50s when they were in the old “B” Division and I’m sure they played in black and white hoops.
They changed to tangerine in the late 50s might have been early 60s at the behest of the manager at the time former deidco player jerry kerr’s wife.
AT @ 7.59
Sorting out the club would be a piece of nonsense as long as the egos / the hidden agendas / the agent friendly transfers / the mutual back scratching were all left at the door.
Football is not a difficult business — it is however well beyond a low rent second rate property bean counter with a messiah complex.
But I think most people know that.
Oops it was 1969 that they switched to tangerine.

Well i do know that Putin backed the last indy ref – his thinking being that it would weaken the uk and hence the EU. He also backed Brexit, again as that would weaken the EU.
I suspect he would still probably back an indy Scotland now as even though that would eventually lead to a (slightly!) stronger EU it would further weaken England which he would enjoy just for shits and kicks.
Jobo
For sure he ain’t the only one, a few Brits from here have gone back to the UK this year from these parts as they are finding things harder since the vote, none bothered to become residents and now they have no health care since it’s been withdrawn, the knock on effect of all this is mind boggling, it really wasn’t though through whatsoever, but the hatred for colored folks in the UK is as rife if not worse than it ever was.

When things come down to the brass tacks, it’s like this, there are hundreds of 000’s of brits here who in a few months will have no health care, given that most of them are elderly that presents a problem, the Spanish are not going to pay for it and the brits have been sending out letters to beat the band telling folks that they are not going to be paying for it, so there will be a massive influx of Brits relocating back to Britland in a few months, it’s happening already, the Brit government won’t want to entertain them, I know of a handful of folks who are living in hostel accommodation cos they have nowhere else to go after going back from here, there is gonna be wheans, of them,so they are or will be in limbo. I wonder how many are not gonna get the health treatment they need, then the NHS will be sold to Septic Pharma, so then whats on the cards, a massive cull, cruel I know but can you really tell me with your hand on your heart that I am wrong, combine it with what is happening just now…..
My pal text me tonight hearing James McCarthy on one year Loan, LENNYBHOY anything in this or is it just Clickbait. Also if Ntcham leaves Eddy will still have the French connection with Jullienne also looks close to Frimpong as well.HH
I voted for Brexit.
And I sure dinnae hate Anyone.
I despise Big Governments tho.
Defo need to go now
When Dundee Utd beat us 2-3 at Celtic park, Lisbon year, they were wearing their black and white strip………..from memory the top was white with two black hoops, they also beat us by same scoreline at Tannadice in the same season.Dennis Gillespie resonates with me as one of the scorers.
Timhorton…c’mon! It was never a penalty… :-)
I doubt it was nae surname. He’s younger than me and I was only 14 at the time…
Cheers for the response…
Sorry! Missed Tontine Tim’s post (lost internet)…thank you again! My memory banks are not dead but they could be doing with an overhaul…

As long as they remain “legally resident” they should still have access to health care in Spain after January 2021
Not the same as permanent residence I know.
Totally confident of beating Riga, losing to the Red imps has no comparison because of the circumstances, i remember the build up to that match like it was yesterday.
BR made his first and biggest mistake of his tenure.
He looked at the TIE and judged it was a TIE we couldn’t lose, he was correct the TIE was over at half time in the return leg.
Where the mistake was made was Celtic went in to this first game with too little preparation especially considering it was a new manager getting to know new players. We had 2 at the most 3 friendlies. His mistake was for each friendly he played a team first half and a complete new team the second half. He should have picked a team and given at least 8 of that team 90 minutes beforehand. To go into a champions league qualifier and no player having played 90 minutes was a big mistake.
It was still a 90 minutes we should have won but no major surprise the team was rusty and didn’t convert a number of chances created with one Efe lapse at the other end.
We qualified and made the club 30M a sum that proudly sits in the bank to this very day, if that’s your thing of course.
I remember we used to go to east coast away games on the football specials that left from Queen St…there was always a rush to the toilets just as we approached the Forth Bridge. Toilet rolls were removed and thrown from the windows. T’was a beautiful sight to see all those rolls of Andrex tissues(nae chance-was cheapo cheapo paper) floating down like Chinese kites to the water below… 😆
Jobo at 10pm
I had exactly the same experience.
Me – Why did you vote leave?
Him (a customer from Hull) – We joost can’t carry on wi’ all them Indians and Pakistanis and that tekkin all the jobs.
Me – What part of Europe do they come from?
Him – Yeah boot that’s not the point
You can’t win against these people. Can you? Please tell me you can.
