League pivots south, not quite Atlantic League

635

Back-to-back away games are statistically more likely to result in points being dropped than any other games (especially if one is a European game), so the probability of Aberdeen dropping points in Inverness last night was high. Their second night-game in the same week, on Friday at Firhill, will also be a genuine challenge.  I can’t find enough occurrences of a team having two away games in the same midweek to draw any statistical inference but I’m glad it’s Aberdeen’s lot, not Celtic’s.

That result felt profound.  Celtic can use the opportunity of a quiet week to prep for the visit of Inverness. A Highland double would go a long way towards the title.

On the “Atlantic League” story, little detail has been reported on what’s happened (ignore what has been reported) and where it’s heading.  The project is not at a mature stage yet, it’s not an Atlantic League, it’s not a collaboration of clubs from small nations, and no lower league clubs, anywhere, have been involved.  Apart from that, the story’s fine.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has kicked the sleeping dog.  We’ll see where he barks.

Time is running out for you to register for the Celtic Park Zip Slide, in aid of the Foundation, which takes place next month.  I did it last year and it was genuinely exhilarating.  Go here and register.

I asked before, but how did he explain his eyes in the back of his head moment, assuming he was asked, at the Charity night?

I know BMCUW gave me a theory when I first asked, but wanted it from the horse’s mouth rather than . . .oh, wait, that’s not sounding good!

    I’ve often wondered, what is a ‘plomb’?=

    No fan of Collum`s

but, the media reaction to last nights performance is outrageous

it`s not a if he denied a stonewall penalty for a very obvious handball in a SC semi final ..when he had the benefit of a goal line assistant

that would have merited a scathing attack on his competency …wouldn`t it ???

  4. With the arrival of Ajer, our midfield project is about to take off. Griffiths, with any from Allen, Roberts, Christie, Ajer, Armstrong, GMS and Rogic across the tap next season?

    Yes please.

Collum is a terrible ref … it’s only the fact that most of his honest mistakes are detrimental to celtic – that saves his reputation.

Not sure about slipping him a tenner. .. I would slip him a right uppercut

No, silly……..that would have merited a scathing attack on the paranoia of the team that complained…

    …………..wouldn’t it?

  8. I had noticed, and posted, that Aberdeen were carrying a fair bit of fortune, given how many odd-goal wins they’ve had in their run, especially given the crazy last -minute handball v Hearts, and the comedy defending of St Johnstone.

When you take things to the wire like that, and decisions or the break of the ball start to go against you, results like last night’s are always on the cards.

Hope the re-balancing continues on Friday night, though I’m not greedy.

    Take a draw quite happily.

I agree with the first part but maybe the second is just because we see him in Celtic games. My Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and Dundee supporting mates all think he is rubbish as well. Not biased; just rubbish. I think he is an attention seeker. My nephew, a very unassuming and politely spoken young man was taught by Collum.

” What was he like? ” I asked.

Nephew, who never swears, replied, ” A Twat.”

    An idle thought.

I think by now, most of us, inclined to so do, have voiced our opinions, pro and con, on the team, the coaches and the Board.

Would it be a novel or good idea if we declared a moratorium on critical comment until the end of the season.

Not to stifle debate, rather to create a positivity that may permeate through to the team and help them in the run in.

There are not going to be any personnel changes before the season’s end, if at all.

There has to be signs that we actually are moving in the right direction, when we stop to think of the young talent we have emerging.

Tierney, Henderson, Fisher and the other boys we have on loan.

The boys that have come in recently, e.g., Jozo, Erik, Allan, Christie and Roberts, all look like good skilful players.

I think we will see them feature before the season is out, providing that the league is safe.

RD will entrust the winning of the league to the ones who have carried us this far, rather than put pressure on the new boys en mass.

Anyway, as I said, just in idle thought.

  12. Pfayr

Or booked a player early on, who then goes on to commit 6 more recognised fouls, 4 clear yellows, being tackles from behind, with no action being taken.

And then goes on to red-card a player from the opposition for a handbags incident which he could not have seen properly given his position.

Dougie Dougie at Ibrox, in BTM’s time, not incompetence, not “honest” mistakes, simple bias.

Saw it on YouTube again at the weekend, BTM’s chin must’ve been aching after that display of cheating,,

    From KDS

    ===

Mr Jackson and his level 5 friends are shampooing themselves as they know fine well that it is not about a closed shop super league.

It is about a pyramid European league. The structure may well initially include a top division of hand picked / financially stable clubs.

The rest of the divisions will have to have some sort of qualifying mechanism. e,g their UEFA coefficient. (Celtic are currently 51st.) possibly minus their national team element.

Again the financial stability of the clubs taking part will be considered as it would be paramount as it would be a major embarrassment if clubs went belly up in such a new venture.

Now Keith, this is where you come in. You’re mission is to spin another myth (it’s why they gave you the gig) that it will spell the end of participation in the CL of Scottish clubs.

A European Armageddon? We have been here before me thinks.

The reality is that there is new dawn approaching, and post and clubs in the ECA want a redistribution of the wealth.

Peter Lawwell is not scurrying around trying to muster support to prevent the big bad Germans he is there, as a board member of ECA to discuss these changes which will result in a report in 6 /9 months (possibly just after the European Championships) , recommending changes to the current set up.

The one thing that you can be sure of Keith is that a European League will not include the tribute act.

And there is the rub. All the time you were running around spinning ‘same club’, ‘same, club’, ‘same club’ nonsense and some Celtic fans joining in the chorus that Celtic were sitting back saying nothing because they really wanted sevco in the top division, we were actually plotting a future well away from these corrupt shores.

    Pass the mint sauce.

Its all hot air FIFA/UEFA all working to shred documents to be bothered about changing European Structure !!

So the hot topic, in my view, continues to be RD (ICT beating the Dons last night buys some space)

My position has been the same for a year – thank you Ronny but you are not for me

However the actions of our club are not the actions of a club about to make a change either now or in the summer (Christie Allan Roberts Ajer – are all future prospects)

It may well transpire that PL is sticking with his man through thick and thin

I don’t buy into this strategy, but I have to respect that PL/club do !!

Interesting times – fast forward to August – what happens if Celtic fail to qualify for CL

I suppose Ronny gets the chop, Peter goes shopping for a new unknown prospect and we get to watch the Europa League

Talk sport yesterday (I only heard 5 minutes of the debate) Colin Murray talking about commentating for the BBC or Talk Sport on a team you support – you are meant to be impartial but all admitted its nearly impossible

I get this – further not just commentating but refereeing – this makes sense to me – If I was a ref and I was referring a Celtic Hun game – I would struggle to be impartial

Yet in Scotland we let Ranger season ticket holders and lodge members referee a Celtic game ????

I nearly phoned in – but we are wasting our time trying to get people to understand the rules in Scottish Football

I could also add having a crocked Hun Director running the SFA – WASTING MY TIME
