League reconstruction will soon look like a fantasy

287

The bun fight in Scottish football, where Partick Thistle have taken counsel opinion and, along with other bottom of the table clubs, threaten legal action if the season is brought to a halt without them being saved from the drop, looks impossible to settle soon.

Hearts and Thistle hope for more than a commitment to discuss the league reconstruction change that will save them from the consequences of being so poor this season.  Both are set to go to court, if necessary, which, I suppose, is an alternative to using your superior financial muscle to outperform smaller clubs.  As things stand, the league will wait until it is safe, then resume, which may delay the start of next season.

There are various event horizons between now and then.  Without football, a cash crunch lies ahead for every club.  For some, that is likely to be a matter of weeks.  Most Scottish clubs will run out of money and available funding by summer.  Celtic can afford to sit tight, as can Partick Thistle – if Christine Weir is prepared to make good any shortfall.

Whatever prize money or loans the SPFL can issue is important but it will not change the bigger picture for the majority of clubs in the top flight.  There, only Celtic have the reserves or funders on the board, to see this crisis out.  The immediate worry for most is to survive three or four months without income, before they can issue season ticket renewals.

Clubs have yet to receive guidance on when attendance at sporting events will be permitted.  When that arrives, talk about league reconstruction, with more mouths to feed in the top flight and throughout, will seem like a fantasy.

There will be significantly less money in Scottish football going forward, we will be able to support fewer full time clubs and if resources are not concentrated within a smaller pool, their dilution through an expanded league will lead to many clubs withering on the vine.

We should sit tight and let the various losers squabble.

Wasn`t around , so I am not familiar with the discussions that took place then .

If no more games, I am owed £130 on my season ticket, not that I will be writing a strongly worded letter 😁, multiply that 53,000 times pro rata, it’s a fair few quid. Another reason for the Club to have suspended next year’s ST,could all get a bit messy,we will probably get a £50 voucher for the Superstore……but it will have to be addressed.

  3. No chance of reconstruction if Sky don’t get their 4,O F games.Has no one been listening.

If PLC have pandemic business interruption insurance , shouldn’t be a problem. If not, more problematic. Either way i think they will offer refunds but you will have to claim it and it will be time limited.

The phone box was on reporting Scotland 6.55pm access via BBC I player. It’s a pity the bhoys didn’t know about the programme. When Celtic win the league or a cup there is normally a tricolour flying on the lamppost above it. Our village is known as Little Ireland as most of the families came to work here with local tattie merchants in 30s 40s and 50s.HH

  6. So the woman who botched the reconstruction of the main stand at Tynecastle is asked to look at reconstructing the Leagues. As I’ve said before, nothing personal, but Ann Budge is hopeless.

  8. Evening all .

Might just be moi , but I don’t feel much like celebrating tonight.

Despite having a giggle at the Huns howling at the moon and everything else, I can’t accept that this is a proper way to end the season.

The destination of the title was obvious to everyone except the Orcs .

Relegation is different. Imho I think if Hearts get relegated it’s wrong. See Partick Thistle for another liberty take .

The main factor seems to be to protect next seasons Sky deal.

The games administrators who couldn’t even organise a basic vote , are the same Incompetent lot that negotiated the Sky deal.

It doesn’t fill me with much confidence in our authorities.

Can we please remember our glee when Sky treat our game in Scotland like an afterthought next season.

    Barmy kick off times .

    P##h pundits.

Basic production that’s amateurish at best.

Personally I hope that the reconstruction goes through or is the Sky slot filler money the be all and end all ?

Right now the real life focus is fighting a pandemic causing thousands to lose their lives .

Meanwhile Scottish fitba rushes through a shambolic vote weeks before it was properly required.

The ole articles of association didn’t make much sense in 2012 , not that they were followed in some selective occasions .

The 2020 articles don’t sit right with moi either.

Sky won’t be paying out what’s on the table for next season . Have wee missed an opportunity for change or does 4 Glasgow derbies and making money Trump the lot ?

    Catch replies later . HH

Gene- another problem Sevco has,is season tickets have to be paid in full I believe, as they have no bank facilities.

My father used to smoke the auld Celtic fags.

Always remember them sittin’ on the mantlepiece with the matches.

When he was done with them, me and my ma’ would cut up the packets and glue them onto my school jotters.

When they weren’t in the shop, he would buy the Rocky Mount Vigilantes. 😂

Thanks pal, you brought back a lovely memory of home. ☘

  11. Looking for refunds from Celtic now.Really?By the time this is over, how much do you think the club will have lost? But still want a refund of 140 quid.!!!!!!!!Faithful through and through, unless it costs me money.FFS

I have 2 season tickets, would not dream of it. Its not Celtics fault.

  12. I think if 1 hun season ticket holder challenged their policy on refunds they would lose big time, or my night classes in Scots Law were wasted, although given how long ago I studied there could have been a change?

  13. i don’t get over for all home games anyway so I’d rather Celtic kept my cash. Wonder if the Supporters Association have a view on it e.g. no refund but cash ringfenced for to pay back some of the pay cuts?

It depends on the circumstances, if folk are entitled to a refund and the club has insurance cover, it’s up to each individual. The terms and conditions work both way. You should also note that some families have mouths to feed and bills to pay at this difficult time.

  17. I am sure i read that the Huns had some kind of no refunds policy

on their season tickets,so they may not have to payout money to ticket holders

  18. prestonpans bhoys on

If Celtic have insurance cover then the refund is a hit on the insurance company not Celtic, they just pass it on. Consequently not asking for a refund would be beneficial to the insurance company, Celtic would not give a hoot

    ——–

So if they pay £600 for a season ticket now and there is no entry until January, then tough luck.

Incredible, but perhaps explains ‘war’ with SPFL while they fleece own support as they look the other way.

The FA did something similar with all leagues below the top seven, I think. As for our own well Paul67 has already told us, next seasons games are worth more than this seasons. We cannot allow that to affect this seasons games, if they could be played later in the summer or before that is. Unknowable at this point.

The SFA is quite prepared to play the Scottish Cup games next season, I’m fine with that, we need to know what UEFA thinks, and take it from there.

  21. Daviv 17,

sure the Huns were loving it,

thinking Celtic would have to pay millions in refunds but they didnt

  22. Angel Gabriel, Good to see you posting.

Obviously getting the Title without playing out the games is not ideal.

There is still a chance we might get to play them but it is looking more likely that we will be handed the Title.

However there are a couple of things we do have a 13 point lead albeit Huns have a game in hand with 8 to play.

We have put ourselves in this position on the field of play and everyone knew we were going to win it either way.

Accordingly I feel to declare the League Null & Void which is the only other option would be a greater injustice.

Accordingly I’ll take this League if we can’t play out the games & look forward to ten in a row next year.

When you consider the EBT years, we have nothing to feel guilty about in celebrating this Title win.

Fly the Flag, Fly the Flag,

  23. While irritating my wife during the lockdown, she suggested I pass my time making a bird table. She was not at all happy when she didn’t come in the top five😊HH

I agree with you. If I’m honest I cannot agree with relegation for Hearts or Partick Thistle

I would expect a legal challenge.

  25. Lenny v Slippy in Glasgow….

    5 games..

    1 x dead rubber

    3 x Celtic victories

    1 x defeat….

Celtic would’ve won the league by 15 points.

    A RESTED Celtic- 20+ points.

Sevco would not have been eligible for a loan.

Sevco will go into administration before footy starts back.

EVERY player n coach will be sacked.

I am 100pc sure that Sevco have already been knocked back for the furlough scheme.

Lastly, the huns thought the lack of the blue pound would sink a lot of clubs-it never because any club that is £500k away from dying has no chance anyway- in 2012 and they come out with this pash today…..bonkers.

Defo lastly…. Jim Duffy said the truest thing tonight….. Too many sevvies (and some Celtic fans) think it’s all about Glasgow….. It isn’t.- these clubs CGAFF about us n the new huns and rightly so.

    God bless Lenny n Broony

    Yohoho

  26. Celtic Mac . Thanks for the reply, and to be fair I’d forgotten about the lower leagues in England.

    Corkcelt .

Thanks for the reply . I’m certainly not feeling guilty, I remember Rugby park , Fir park etc to well . The relegation issue doesn’t sit well though pal , any injustice is still an injustice imho.

  27. I remember a few years ago, Celtic put on the wrong dates on their site for their 3 Champions League games,

My mate & myself were waiting to book our flights early and as soon as info came up I booked 6 flights for two.

Looked again at sight and to my dismay the dates had been changed and I was stuck with 12 useless plane journeys.

I banged off a letter of complaint but stressed I wasn’t looking for a refund but hinted that if there was a hospitality package for 2 or an after match invite to players lounge going, it would be gratefully received,

I got a reply looking for receipts & Booking Confirmations etc. I sent them back & got an immediate response advising a full refund was on the way.

I rang the ghuy up and again said we were not looking for a refund but would be happy to get a bit of Benefit in Kind as previously suggested,

But the ghuy said we know we made a mistake and a decision has been made from the top to refund any Supporters who booked the wrong flights and a couple of days later we got our money back,

  28. Corkcelt

I think you could be right

Top league of 14 – play each other twice = 26 games

    Split 6 & 8

Top 6 – 36 games, each having 18 home games

Bottom 8 – 40 games, having 20 home games each, bottom 2 relegated, 3 bottom play off to stay up

Championship of 12 teams, – play similar to current premiership, winners play 3 bottom for Premier league – 2 down

Leagues back to current for season 21/22

Incidentally Drop the League cup for 20/21 season

I would be happy enough leaving Premiership at 14, and championship at 12,

As for other 2 leagues, create a single league with reduced numbers, or a league of 18 teams

There sorted for the Eastern Star, and confirmed Sevco fan

  29. nally81

Would only have taken us a few games to clinch the title.

Hearts with eight games and five against the bottom teams might well see things differently.

If Dundee Utd are up, what happens to Raith, do they still get in the playoffs, and if so, against who?
