I was right in line with Charlie’s shot, albeit it swerved. I actually think the young Charlie was the best in the box finisher we’ve had. Brilliant at one on one. According to The Herald Colby Donovan has injured his ankle, or rather had his ankle injured when clearing the ball, and the Gibraltar clugger targeted him. Never saw any of the game, I pictured the type of “challenge” Cornelius left on Jonny Kenny in the LC semi-final, which should have been red-carded. Apart from knee injuries, which can happen without any contact, an injury to the ankle can be one of the worst a player can get. Thing is the clugger often gets a free pass, at any level, even in the EPL, but especially in Scotland and in International football. And of course we have the apologists, working for Sky Sports, or MOTD, or Sportscene, wherein we get “there was no malice there” type of view though that was not the consensus re Jonny Kenny to be fair. Point is it is a pernicious type of foul play because the injured party cannot mitigate or avoid it. Sometimes there are no broken bones, not torn ligaments or strained tendons, just bad bruising and swelling, from which you can recover quite quickly, and hopefully that is the case with young Colby.
Thankfully both KT and Tony R are okay, the latter played well later in the game last night. Hope JSP has been practising using his right foot during the break, he’s going to be needed at some point.
