The major positive Brendan Rodgers brought to Celtic when he arrived in 2016 was the elevated level of professionalism he learned at Liverpool. Until then, Celtic were the biggest operation most of the football staff had worked in. Liverpool worked at a different level, which even Neil Lennon accepted when he returned in 2019. Standards have improved since he departed five years earlier.
The same was true when Ange Postecoglou arrived in 2021. Ange brought with him the City Football Group’s method of working, from recruitment to sports science. The bar was raised again, although some of that subsequently dropped off.
The game changes quickly. Even for the elites: a year without a league win and Manchester City have revised their football philosophy. The top coach in the game, with abundant money, has had to rethink everything.
As we discussed on Wednesday, decks have been cleared. Whoever comes in will help mould the football operation into a new shape. Where these influences come from is important. This is what Newco hoped to acquire when they appointed Danny Rohl, from his time at Bayern Munich and the Germany national team, although their flirtation with Steven Gerrard was bizarre. Rohl might be a rubbish manager, but he has seen elite operations up close and will try to bring some of that to Glasgow.

Only 8 days until we see the Celtic again on a Saturday night in Paisley. How we suffer for our art. 😁

Good afternoon all from the Brazen Head. A chilly day in old Glasgow Town. 🥶
If, as we are being told, the board were in London to conduct interviews this week but none of the favourites were there . . . . anyone else starting to fear that DD will offer Robbie Keane the job? He does like an Irish appt and I doubt he gives a flying deck what the fans think.
Keane, with his ties to Israel, would be a two finger salute to the fans by the absentee landlord. But would not be in the least surprising.
The rags saying MON meeting DD today re talks on his future, tells me nobody is coming in anytime soon, better waiting for the right man rather than jump in….

why ?what are his ties to Isreal ?
Think you know that. Why are you being a tube.
Keane got roasted for managing Israeli team
Oops
“Robbie Keane managed the Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv from June 2023 to June 2024, winning the league and Toto Cup. He faced controversy for staying with the team during the Israel-Gaza war”
Lovely guy….
he managed maccabi , he got piiliored for it.
he stated he was there for football reasons only.
should he never manage celtic then ?
should we never employ anyone then with any association with Israel ?
but we are ok with playing in the UEFA competitions with the chance of playing an Israeli team ?
I was only carrying out orders……
You can justify anything……
Only my opinion but going for a guy like Keane goes against all of what should be the clubs principles…
But guys like Desmond and the rest of the hangers on who are on the board clearly don’t have many principles that’s for sure….
The same was true when Ange Postecoglou arrived in 2021. Ange brought with him the City Football Group’s method of working, from recruitment to sports science. The bar was raised again, although some of that subsequently dropped off.
I can’t find any reference by Ange Postecoglou to getting valuable football insights at the Man City group ? Ange always referred to him learning and studying the game from an early age through his father then as a player, which continued through the many years he spent coaching and in management in various countries, not solely down to his time in the Man City group.
When I was involved with the Celtic Trust, during one of the scheduled meetings Pedro was in attendance, the football dept was under the management of Brendan Rodgers Ist time around, Pedro was waxing lyrical in reference to BR, every facet of the football dept standards where being raised, sadly Pedro changed his tune within a year
I have a friend who was a supervisor at Lennoxtown (16 years) he also sang BRs praises, how BR took a serious interest in the quality of the training pitches and also the staff, upon winning the treble BR made sure even the ground staff were rewarded and felt involved, every part of Lennoxtown from the carpets in the door to the modernisation of equipment, meeting rooms, upgrade sports science, analysis, etc etc……….after BR left, that fell away to CGAF management
I also heard from someone on the coaching staff who again sang the professionalism standards that BR set, recently Callum Mcgregor was singing a similar song, Rodgers left playing young due to an injury he then set his mind on getting involved with coaching and management, google his record, it was BRs years spent in the game learning rather than just what Liverpool gave BR, this is lazy blogging and doing both men a disservice
These leading articles should come with a health warning due to severe burning from the gaslighting
DR saying its Nancy
Robbie Keane is in my view completely unacceptable for the role of Celtic manager – his character is more in keeping with managing clubs like Maccabi and Ferenchvaros.
But then we employed a manager that threatened a woman with a knife to the throat as reported in the Daily Mirror, the moral standards of our board aren’t set particularly high.
In November 2024, Keane’s wife said that the family were still receiving threats from a small number of pro-Palestine activists, which had made her doubt their safety in Ireland. While he was targeted in Ireland for not leaving Israel during the war, he was also criticised within Israel for not endorsing the war.[220]
For “decks are cleared” read “saving on wages”.
Regardless of who we bring in, if the Board are still going to sign players the manager doesn’t know or want
Similarly, if they aren’t going to sign the players the manager wants then that is worse. We could clone Jock Stein and still nothing will change.
We don’t have the resources of the Super clubs so we need to be better at recruitment but that will require football people having the final say and the egos in charge at Celtic won’t allow that
The bean counters wouldn’t allow yhe football manager to run merchandising department, so why are they continually disrupting the football side of the business.
If the current outdated policy isn’t going to change then it doesn’t really matter who is in charge.
Gannon at the DR saying in the last hour that Nancy is on the brink of getting the job. Expecting deal done this weekend.

Can you not read?
so I will try again, asking a similar question.
Should Celtic plc not employ people because they had a job in a country doing the worst of things ?
Should we participate in competitions that these countries have teams in ?
Is it only Robbie we shouldnt employ, any others guilty ?
was he supporting the regime just by being employed there, is that your thinking ?
any other teams, jobs, persons we must never employ because of their history ?
I would suggest that having an awareness of a person’s character should be paramount before employing them in any job.
Usually this won’t be evident at an interview but in Keane’s case it’s clear.
Keane took a job in a country that is carrying out a genocide. He knew it yet he still took the job.
But hey he’s a good guy….
Heard a few bad stories recently re Keane off the park not of the class required.

I’m not interested, there’s no point discussing this off the back of the breaking news.
We’re about to appoint a manager that is on record as saying results are secondary for him when it comes to football…
Hearts will never get a better chance to win the league. We could finish third.
Until its is confirmed by the the club and the new Manager/coach has signed the contract is when I will be interested and research the new man
Tabloid speculation in the 24 hr news cycle is pointless IMO but hey knock yersels oot
As for writing the criteria for Celtic FC s recruitment policy FFS its Friday night man
enjoy your evening
“Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
Rufus T Firefly 1888.
The theme seems to assume we are either not looking hard enough or we are not looking at all
I fear another scenario.
I fear those that we would want are not agreeing to an interview
Frightened off by the treatment of the last guy (love him or hate him – we did not look too good)
If you are Kieran McKenna why would you leave Ipswich to work with a Board that cant buy a Centre Forward and blames the Manager for everything else
And the decks are clear message is a bit of a twist on reality
The Decks are cleared because most of the team followed BR out the door
Not because our Board have a vision
I don’t think I have read/heard one thing from anyone on our Board or even our Host on here that fills me with confidence that we are about to embark on a positive adventure
God I hope I’m wrong and somebody somewhere knows what they are doing

I’m sure whatever manager we get will have done their homework on how the club operates off the park as well as on it . No free spirits need apply .
