The major positive Brendan Rodgers brought to Celtic when he arrived in 2016 was the elevated level of professionalism he learned at Liverpool. Until then, Celtic were the biggest operation most of the football staff had worked in. Liverpool worked at a different level, which even Neil Lennon accepted when he returned in 2019. Standards have improved since he departed five years earlier.
The same was true when Ange Postecoglou arrived in 2021. Ange brought with him the City Football Group’s method of working, from recruitment to sports science. The bar was raised again, although some of that subsequently dropped off.
The game changes quickly. Even for the elites: a year without a league win and Manchester City have revised their football philosophy. The top coach in the game, with abundant money, has had to rethink everything.
As we discussed on Wednesday, decks have been cleared. Whoever comes in will help mould the football operation into a new shape. Where these influences come from is important. This is what Newco hoped to acquire when they appointed Danny Rohl, from his time at Bayern Munich and the Germany national team, although their flirtation with Steven Gerrard was bizarre. Rohl might be a rubbish manager, but he has seen elite operations up close and will try to bring some of that to Glasgow.

Not even a mention of it here L67.i recall a similar Irish side breaking thro after another previous ‘unders’ giving john o shea,Damien Duffy, etc who then followed thro.
It’s a great experience for the young guys, builds up mental toughness at the highest possible level for their age group in the World Cup.

Don’t you start.
Evening all.
If we were going for Knutsen, I think it would have indicated that we were about to
restructure the whole football dept.
Feels like if it’s Nancy nothing will be changing.
Remains the same top to bottom sadly.
If it’s Nancy I’ll support him, however still want the board to be overhauled.
Cleared the decks!!!!!!!
Not a chance, more like the POOP deck
Vive La France !!!!!!!!
Allons enfants de La Patria,le jour de gloire est arrive.

A modern progressive club will be doing some serious scouting/data analysis…………….oh wait
Scottish Cup winners Aberdeen have reported a £2m loss for the year to June, after a season without European football but with an increase in player trading profit.
The Dons did not feature in a Uefa competition in Jimmy Thelin’s first season in charge, 2024-25, but have ended up in this term’s Conference League after ending a 35-year wait to win Scottish football’s oldest trophy.
The loss for the previous year was £880,000.
Turnover fell almost £2m to £21.7m, with operating expenses up by almost £2.5m to £26.5m.
Gains on disposal of players’ registrations neared £5.3m, up from £1.3m.

Yeah we’re left hoping Columbus Crew’s elite standards are something we can learn from…
We’re left hoping a manager with four years experience can shape our entire football department…

Patience.
We could have said same of Ange my friend
It needs dynamism ie hopefully we get a kick on as a club from a possible appointment.
We also need to kick on as a club. This maw-doh/model much heralded, needs proper league structures at all age groups in our country to play in,right up to a reinstated reserve league. At this moment in time. This would give more players access to resale rather than the one big star comin thro and £20m+ sale,if no sale, good, we build on,hopefully winning here and rebuilding our reputation in Europe which is weak. The annual sale appears to bonusrelated to certain kpi’s imo
Let’s see the man and his plan

If It is Nancy and he sticks to his preferred 3421 system then we can look forward to some interesting team selections at the very least. Wingers hugging the touchline are not his style.
The players will need time to adjust to it, the fans will need to be patient.
Ok, I’ll stop there.
I have it on good authority that Wilfried Nancy drives a Honda Civic…shoo in.
A Quick Look at a Columbus Crew forum.

First post Dec 2022:
“Yeah, he’s French. Cool. So was Romain Gall, how did that work out?
Supposedly he’s a nice guy, so was Tom Fitzgerald.
He has a history of playoff failure. Even Gregg Berhalter coached a Kei Kamara led team to MLS Cup. Caleb Porter won two cups. Nancy lost to a NYCFC squad that got rid of their best player mid-season.
The long downward spiral of our beloved club continues. Where is the ambition.
Ouvrez la fenetre, this hire stinks.
Fire Wilifried Nancy.”
A post today
“The most fun 3 years of Crew soccer I’ve ever watched. So exhilarating and fun to be part of. Merci, Nancy.”
Looks like he plays a 3-4-3 mainly but can adapt.
Régis Le Bris managed 76 games at Lorient with a win percentage of 30% before going to Sunderland and becoming one of the hottest coaches in the EPL this season.

It keeps happening in the EPL. Iraola came from real vallecano in the Spain and hes probably the hottest coach out there now. Hurzeler at Brighton is 32 and came from St Pauli
Off to Gran Canaria (Mogán) for two weeks tomorrow. Pub is dedicating a telly for the Scotland game, we’ll done my brother.
We’ve gone all in all Tisdale. I’ve no idea why. It must be the Exeter City elite level experience I presume.
So what will big Wilfried’s nickname be?
Big Walfrid?
Or, Big Nancy bhoy?
HH
oot.
Players will train and play for any manager. That’s their job. However, the man/character they play for may bring out something special. Usually from a man with a leadership presence, good communication and connection with club culture.
Regardless of who takes the job, they are faced with a tough start – so may key injuries, an inexperienced strike force and a few players away for African nations. A very tough start!
Dear Ggod, switched from the women’s game which should be 5-1,and is 1-1 at HT.Think I have clicked on FF.We have no idea what Nancy has demanded. He has no need to leave his present job, where he is feted and loved. We will know when we see his backroom staff,of which he has a few.Maybe they will all be coming. and a massive shake up is happening. No one knows, but many second guessing,or just putting stupid remarks on.Maybe someone or two,are stepping down next week from the Board.Who knows?.
Thing is,it was not a Desmond or PL pick, old pals act,its been a football pick,so any chance of waiting to see if it works.Teams in the EPL have taken chances on guys with meagre CVs,most working.I will wait and see.
Jesus, I hope to hell it is big Nancy, if only for the sake o aw those oan here who have bin making an effort
Aw that research an stuff…..doon the pan….whit wiz that French phrase again…..oh aye…

Back to the women. That highly spoken of striker should have had 3.Our best player now out injured,2nd half.😣😣😣
Saw a youtube video of Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in his first iteration. They were playing R2ngers and they were terrific – fast, direct and skilful. The contrast with the pattern of play served up after Bayern could not have been more stark. Am at a loss to understand the how or the why.
FRITZSONG on 14TH NOVEMBER 2025 8:55 PM
From Dembele and French Eddie to Kenny and Yamada probably goes some way to explaining it.
Guardian
Celtic are to accelerate talks with Wilfried Nancy over the weekend as the Columbus Crew manager edges closer to replacing Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow. Celtic are understood to have informed the Major League Soccer side on Friday of their plans, with any compensation required to coax the Frenchman not regarded as problematic. Nancy is believed to be keen on the switch.
Celtic hope to have Nancy in place by the time they visit St Mirren next weekend, which would bring an end to Martin O’Neill’s caretaker spell. O’Neill was due to meet Celtic’s main shareholder, Dermot Desmond, in London on Friday. The second tenure of Rodgers in Glasgow ended in acrimony in late October, with Desmond taking public aim at the former Liverpool manager.
Nancy was regarded as an outsider when named as a possible Celtic manager at the time of Rodgers’s resignation. However, he fits the desired Celtic profile of an emerging coach who the Scottish champions believe can progress within their system and accept transfer policies. Nancy, who previously managed Montreal, took Columbus Crew to seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference this regular season. The Crew bowed out in round one of the MLS playoffs to Ohio rivals FC Cincinnati.
Is Alex Mysiw coming alongside the good Brother?
He was the analytics chap at Columbus Crew

If it’s big Wilf, it’s big Wilf and I wish him awrrabest.
But I wonder of/or why we never spoke to wee Kev Muscat given he succeeded Ange at Melb Victory and at Yokohama, not significantly changing the playing philosophy or style – a style which was deemed akin the the famous/alleged Celtic way. Musky also working at Yoko when part of the City Group. He’s won title in AU, JP and now ra People’s Republic of China. A character with character and v demanding of his squad.
Muscat – on that basis and playing rep aside – shirley a very good fit for us?
Mibby his PRC wage demands are way are higher than an MLS coach.

Thelwell trying to curry favour with the uglies…
“Look at me, I’m ragin’ so a um.”
Not punting Nancy for the job bye the way,but if they hire him,he needs the support. He is walking into a club in turmoil,on and off the pitch.Half a team ,the best half out injured long term.Off the field we all know about.
No matter what happens,if it is him,he will need help.MON,Maloney until Xmas ?.
Can’t say,” There you go,do something with this squad” Knows no one. With our injuries, this would have been a problem for any choice.
Big,big problem.
