Josip Juranovic, who was recently mentioned as a target for Atletico Madrid and Chelsea, is reported by Sky Sports to be heading to Monza, currently 15th in Serie A, for around £7m. It is neither the move nor the fee I was hoping for Josip. His spectacular World Cup performances, especially in the quarter final win over Brazil, had me expecting he would move on for a more substantial fee and to a tier one club.
Celtic put the For Sale sign up for Josip since before he headed to Qatar, unusually announcing they were unable to agree a new contract for a player with 3.5 years left on his current deal. He was given the responsibility of going to-to-toe with Neymar, a test he passed with merit. Still, there are no big bidders.
Despite the balance on his contract, with his replacement already starting at right back (and looking like an upgrade), we are at peak value for Josip, so should move him on. Potential buyers will be less keen to cough up a large fee if he has been playing backup or putting in mixed performances at left back.
The fee is less of a disappointment than the lack of interest from a top club. Kieran Tierney remains the only player to have left Celtic to a genuinely wealthy side since Henrik (Lyon were close). Kieran, a genuine talent, has had mixed success in London and his most often second choice left back at Arsenal. This is not helpful to Celtic.
For Celtic’s business model to flourish, we need to punch the same weight as Dutch and Portuguese sellers. If you are a pathway to Arsenal, Barcelona or once-removed to Liverpool (Virgil), you find it easier and cheaper to recruit players with potential. To make any of this possible, Champions League results are necessary, performances SPFL just don’t count. There is a lot of work ahead.
Should Premiership teams play Sweet Georgia Brown when Connor Goldson walks out of their tunnel? If you know, you know. Sunday’s ‘arms by his side’ nonsense at Tannadice was the worst yet.

Bale is a conman who retired years ago
Stebhoy.
I think Taylor has become an excellent player.
Even in his twilight years (27) , I too thought we would get double thae reported fee for Juranovic . Considering they got £25m for Bassey FFS!
However , we have got a better defender in Johnstone ,and the bhoy can also bomb up the wing delivering decent crosses so he’ll do for me .
I’m not bothered about JJ going, remember his first game thought 👌what a signing and that was the last time 😐
Feel sorry for Juranovic , reading back. Most people loved him last season and don’t forget that tackle and set up for the late winner vs Utd

never mind Bassey what about the fee thems allegedly received for paterson who didn’t even play in the first team.
Why complain about the potential fee for a departing player if that’s the only bid on the table and the player is determined to leave?
Juranovic bombed in the Champions League. Take the £7m and be done with it.
“…don’t forget that tackle and set up for the late winner vs Utd”
I’ve forgotten it already.
You’d have thought the huns wouldn’t be leaking anything to Alan Nixon at this point unless they were very confident of getting him. It could be Cho’s agent playing a very risky game.
Who needs a recruitment team when you can outsource scouting to Celtic ? Pathetic huns.
Guys,
Granted JJ did not shine in the CL, but any player named in the best world Cup team must be worth more than 7 million GBP / Euros.
HH.
I still have nightmares about our finishing v Shakhtar in Warsaw. We could easily have won 5-1 but for some dreadful squanderling of chances. No wonder the Ukrainian side were doing cartwheels at securing the draw.
We’re still missing a lot of chances and we can only hope Ange can change all that in time for next season’s assault on the Champions League.
Juranovic is so last season

Agreed. But who are you trying to convince — CQN, the Celtic Board or clubs throughout Europe?
That awkward moment when ‘ only ‘ Monza put in a bid

Sorry, meant GP
Last week it was Real Madrid, before the World Cup it was Athleti.
The boy has got some agent, and he has been trying for a move before the ink was dry on his orginal Celtic contract.
Good luck and goodbye Josip
The Rangurs in for Cho was from notable Hun, sports reporter, Alan Nixon, it’s not been backed up by anything so far and if he thinks that’s a good move for him (Cho) then fill your boots. Disappointed but not surprised at the revisionism about JJ, it’s not him that set the price (though many Croatians have release clauses inserted in their contracts as they climb the football tree).
Almost Hun like behaviours by some
I would prefer to keep Juranuvic and see if we could get someone to take Ralston for £7m.
As he allegedly kept Juranuvic out the team.
But I would doubt, if there would be any takers.

………
I read today that Cho’s club’s agent is in London negotiating the deal. The agent is the S. Korean who used to play for Man Utd. Park Si Young (IIRC).
I have nothing but good words to say about Josip.
He is, by far, our best technical player in his position and the one who was trusted to perform at CL level. Both Ralston and AJ are accomplished SPFL performers but have yet to prove it at the higher level.
For someone being dismissed as a want-away- this must be a new found preference by JJ.
I vividly recall how keen and crucial he was in getting Jota to sign on full time to “Stay with us!” as he said.
I cannot blame him if he does want away but I will have no sour grapes revision of his ability or any invented team disruption. JJ has been a high performing and popular teammate.
If we only get £9m for him, it will be up there with the Boric to Fiorentina transfer as our worst selling price of an asset.
SFTB
Define wantaway ?

His agent was trying to sell him in the Summer. Same guy Abada recently switched to.
He’s had a long run up at this and if Monza is the best he can do it suggests he’s not very good and that whatever fee we get for him is what the market will pay.

TOSB – My heartfelt commiserations.
Here’s hoping for no recurrence.
CELTIC40ME
His agent was trying to sell him the minute he signed, which was the summer before last.😂
Juranovic hasn’t kicked a ball for Celtic this season, but had 1 1/2 possibly two good games, at the WC after he refused new terms to remain.
Yes, there has to be a buyer and not only at Celtic’s price they have to match the supporters who value him higher, while playing internet football manager.😂
I agree Monza reveal the market value of the player who’s only worth what someone is willing to pay.
“Apparently 33 years to yesterday’s date Steven McLean the referee was the Rainjurz mascot against Dundee Utd.”

Gentlemen, start your engines….
Return of Lawwell equals return of the lowball bids. Get the Korean signed Celtic. However, some would argue Lawwell never left He should have been hunted after his involvement in the 10 IAR shambles
Winning the title last year after the Lennon am dram was one of the sweetest of my life

The diving header winner and the Panenka are unforgettable for me
No hard feelings from me, it’s just the game these days. It cuts both ways.
Noticed there’s an article on here titled Welsh poser, not about Bale or Ramsey but our own Stephen.
Have the mighty Ranjurs swooped in ahead of dithering biscuit tin Celts and signed Korean striker. Oh how they hark for the 90’s.
I see the Raman rangers news gave us a wee mention tonight ,the stv are getting just as bad as the other channel . How long have we to turn the other cheek before we tell them to gt*
