LEGEND BACKS BRENDAN’S BHOYS

DAVIE HAY is backing Celtic to make an impact in the Europa League – if they get past Suduva in the play-offs.

Brendan Rodgers will take his team to Lithuania on Thursday for a tricky first leg tie – and the former Celtic manager and player reckons they can be a hit in the competition.

Hay said: “There is obviously huge disappointment that Celtic are not going to be in the Champions League this season, but they still have to lift themselves now for the Europa League.

“Yes, it isn’t as prestigious a tournament, but it is still European football and Celtic have to take it seriously.

“They are where they are and they have to make sure that they qualify for the group stages.

“Ironically enough, Celtic may well be better equipped to do well in the Europa League rather than the Champions League.

“If they can get themselves together, a long run in the competition is realistic.”
