CELTIC legend Davie Hay reckons Emilio Izaguirre will do a great job for the team against Valencia tonight – if he returns to the left-back position.
It had been hoped Kieran Tierney would be fit to make his first appearance after being out for TWO MONTHS with a persistent hip injury.
However, boss Brendan Rodgers deemed the Scotland international wasn’t fit enough to face the Spanish side in the first leg of the Europa League first leg showdown at Parkhead.
Jonny Hayes played in the No.3 position in the 5-0 Scottish Cup triumph in Glasgow on Sunday and he has support to continue in the role.
But Hay, a former Hoops manager and player and now a club ambassador, believes the Honduran, who was crocked in the 2-0 win over Hibs last week, could be vital with speed going to be a key factor in the game.
He said: “The level will go up again pretty steeply and don’t think Emilio Izaguirre has let anyone down, especially at Celtic Park.
“The one thing you would say about Valencia is that you want to put them on the back foot while also being fairly sensible. They are a different level entirely to what Celtic have been playing and everyone can appreciate that.
“I feel as though there is a bit more pace in the side and it is in a game like this where that could make the difference.
“It should be a pretty exciting night in any case with the disco lights sure to get another airing.”
