Legends, history, £6k and tens of thousands of Celtic fans

1401

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 9-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day at Aberdour in Fife, yesterday.  The event, auctions and raffles leading up to it raised £6000, the bulk of which will go to the 1254125 appeal, while some will go to Clic Sargent, who help families with children with that dreadful disease.

Lisbon Lion, Willie Wallace, and his wife Olive, were fantastic guests, who enjoyed spending a day with 70 or so friends.  It doesn’t matter how far away Lisbon Lions live, you always find them the same way.

My sincere thanks to everyone who came along, bid of the auctions or bought a raffle ticket, all in aid of people you will never know. Thank you from all of us to John, Kevin and John, for their stressful work in pulling the event together, for the ninth year!

125 years ago a handful of people, living in a community devastated by hunger, destitution and TB, but who could make a difference, decided they would make a difference.  As a result, Celtic was born.  Celtic is not just something to brighten up your weekends, it’s not purely there to build friendships or to create common-interests across the generations, it is a movement you are required participate in.

The clarion call to all Celtic fans this year is to do more than just put your hand in your pocket, the spirit which gave birth to the concept of Celtic will only survive if those who can get involved, inspire a fresh generation by doing so.

Go register for 1254125, and commit to doing something to raise £125.  It can be anything.  You can walk a 1888 meters, go to the barbers and get a baldy to celebrate the signing of Amido Balde, it doesn’t need to be as ambitious as the 150 brave souls who right this very moment are atop Ben Nevis about to undertake the world’s highest huddle.

If you believe in this club, don’t leave it to someone else to take care of what’s important.  The same goes for your season ticket.  It has been over a century since we have been as close to the founding spirit of our club, but the sporting dramas which inspire us all are not achieved by new strikers, they are the fruits of tens of thousands fans buying season tickets.

Go stake your claim on Celtic.

Fantastic, makes both proud and humble to be a Celtic supporter.

Anyone who thinks this is about football only, hasn’t a clue.

Thanks for posting that link to Sportsreel from September 1963.

I was at that game as young bhoy and it was easily our best perfomance against them that year. We had lost 0-4. 0-3 (3 times!)and 1-2 in the game featured in the Sportsreel programme.

Five defeats in a year and oh how they mocked us.

“Easy easy” and “Haffey ha ha ha” were the topical chants and it was very hard to take.

Fortunately Jock arrived and the rest as they say is history.

b2k – Scottish independence would almost certainly lead to a united Ireland. However it is understandable why a good percentage of Celtic supporters would have a lot of concerns. For purely selfish reasons then,i would be all for it,but i don’t have to live there so it’s not for me to say.Although Orange zealots from Scotland ran this place for centuries – they are a horrible, nasty breed – but we will have our day soon, regardless of what Scotland decides, and despite everything the zealots tried to keep us down. :)

I am waiting for a credible argument for independence, there is no economic argument just look at the paper John Swinney took to the Cabinet a couple of months ago then kept secret until the leak. He said we could not afford the current level of pensions or Public Services and that is from SNP ministers.

You mention the OO yes they are backing staying in UK but they have a plan B which is if it goes independent they will stand candidates in elections I have personally been told this at my Surgeries, they think that with a PR election they would pick up seats in cities and the likes of Ayrshire and Lanarkshire, enough to hold the balance of power and make their demands.

They already have a Party the Scottish Loyalist Party, and have close links with the BNP and the SDL, they will play on people’s prejudices.

And after what Frank Mulholland said to Bernard Ponsonby then I am currently a criminal for some of my political beliefs, the SNP have politicised the Police force and the PF’s office, the SNP are only supportive of people who buy into their agenda if not you are out.

The Offensive Behaviour Act is a mistake but they will not admit it so they lean on the Police to deliver their anti-catholic agenda and the most public face of this is the Celtic support.

An independent Scotland would be a dark place for minorities especially Irish Catholics. Is that enough of a reason to vote No, we would be a tiny minority in a bigoted Scotland come back in 25 years and we can think about it.

The events of the last two days in Aberdour & on Ben Nevis are testimony to the spirit of the Celtic support at its very finest.

I had no part in either event, so I feel comfortable in saying that what you guys have achieved in two special days has been SPECIAL.

Yup. Primals blew them away IMHO (and were also ace in the wee gig at SWG3 the night before)

Had a great time despite Ian Brown breaking some kind of record for the most number of bum notes in a song and a girl in our group getting hit on the head with a bottle. If I’d paid £55 I’d be a bit brassed off even more so if I’d paid £300 for the VIP section which consisted of a bar you couldn’t get into, a tent that held about 40 folk but with less honking toilets.

Meant to add the highlight of mcgrory’s day was helping Tom Boyd eat his lunch at the top.

Always held Tom Boyd in very high esteem as a great celt but if possible after yesterday he has went up in my estimation – a great ambassador for the club (and not just because of the sandwiches he shared with mcgrory)

The stall next to the tee-shirts guy is Executive Shaving and if you say Hail Hail to the assistant you’ll get at least 10% off your purchase. They’ve got an amazing range of real mens razors and shaving brushes. As their ad on CQN says ‘Keeping Us Handsome’.

Ernie – It’s that old Ulstar Scatch tripe – If the population of their own homeland decided that these no longer wanted to be part of the UK,then these cretins over here wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.Everything that the claim to espouse would go down the swanny. That is why the Orange zealots on both sides of the Irish sea are dead set against Scottish Independence.
