Legia less appealing, Man City under-grad

1542

Surprised we got two in yesterday, as Manchester City under-grad, Jason Denayer, signed for a year-long loan last night.  The 19-year-old has yet to play first team football so is likely to be considered as backup at Celtic, though reports are promising.

Not surprised that Legia Warsaw have lodged an appeal to Uefa to be re-instated into the Champions League, they have to try everything possible.  It has not been confirmed what ground Legia have appealed on, however, at the weekend, Polish FA chief exec, Zbigniew Boniek, suggested an appeal would be made on two grounds:

That only one member of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body was at the hearing to made the decision, and

That Legia were not given the chance to make a submission to the Body.

There are 10 members of the Disciplinary Body and rules state that decisions require the attendance of at least three, unless the case is “urgent”, when a decision can be taken by one member.  To defend their process, Uefa need to insist that the circumstances were urgent, probably citing the Champions League play-off draw, which was due to take place two hours later.

While the Disciplinary Body allow submissions to be made prior to a hearing, Article 34 authorises the Body to undertake a hearing without submissions and “in the absence of one or all of the parties”.

In the unlikely event Legia won an appeal on procedural grounds, a subsequent hearing, perhaps with more Disciplinary Body members in attendance, would take place, and would inevitably reach the same conclusion.

Article 21, paragraph 2, of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations state, “A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.”  There is no ambiguity or lateral for the Disciplinary Body to exercise a different reprimand.

Legia’s appeals can carry on all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Celtic will not be involved in any future issues.  NK Maribor represent a vastly, vastly, greater risk to their Champions League aspirations.

Maybe the player will only come to Celtic if we are still in the CL.

Kev Jungle A good question maybe it is constant evolution with Celtic as it is with football teams are they ever the finished article ? We the support always want improvement and the manager always wants more and better players. If we can accept that some of us might enjoy supporting Celtic even more.H.H.

Anything positive to say? Or even less negative?

We have a strategy, we should stick to it despite bumps on the road. We will get things wrong, but more right than wrong. We will spend what we earn and no more, that is over a 4-5 year cycle, we will rush to spend every penny to keep KevJ and Shug happy.

Really looking forward to seeing how tonight goes. The first match of a new season is always a time to look ahead and with a new manager in there is a lot to look out for. We may need to have a bit of patience as Ronny gets hos playing style across to the players.

Tony, before we take up the whole blog, trading insults…the way that I see it is, If I don’t by a SB then, I can sleep safely in the knowlege that, I haven’t been ‘used’ by the charlatans who masquerade as custodians of Celtic when, under the table their placating the huns return cos, the huns didny die as the ‘bored’ that you adore, didny have the balls to pull the trigger and deny them the CL money during the honest mistakes era that would have killed the huns and by this time…Celtic could be playing in a SKY TV league downsouth but, your pals didny go for it.

The Celtic ‘bored’ of directors are selling ‘you’ out by bringing in – trialist managers / trialist / project / loan players after….’you’ve’ paid top dollar to see stars on the pitch. The ‘bored’ will do everything that they can to keep the huns alive and, get their carefully ‘planted’ lackey tp spin some yarns and hope the ‘you’ fall for it. imho

    Good luck.

I have a question If Legia Warsaw had not played there banned player but had left him on the bench.Would they not still have been in trouble as he should not have been anywhere near the team ? H.H.

“Ronny Deila has said that he has decent money to spend on a wildcard depending on the result of the Legia appeal.”

I don’t think Ronny did say that! If you look at the quotes from his interview, he said the first bit, but the second bit (re waiting on the outcome of Legia’s appeal) is just twitter-rumour.

  13. If Legia Warsaw have deliberately cheated then they should be kicked out of Europe…something which is not knew to them

    The appeal is academic

TonyDonnelly67 the Celtic support is all shades of opinion ; it’s great their are fans like you who come hell or high water will follow the club line and not hear a bad word about Celtic. In fact manye years ago the entire Celtic support was like that as we knew every press article , every SFA decision was shaped against the club.

However although not perfect we have moved on considerably. Celtic fans no longer accept the party line just like the infallibility of the Pope.

There have numerous mistakes made by the club as we are all human.

However what we have today is different. It is the weakest team in 3 seasons driven by the £1M / year CEO / Director of Football that runs the show. This is no mistake it is a policy being implemented that will end up with Celtic at the scale of a League of Ireland Club.

As the Legia players said St Pats gave them a harder game…..so maybe a League of Ireland club could be a step up….only joking !

What a great question and why has this not been mentioned before?

  17. JFH

My understanding is that is what they should have done – registered him in the squad but not played him. That way, he took up a squad place but did not participate in the match as he was suspended.

I don’t think there is any rule that he could not sit on the bench.

  18. As the SPL goes we have two tough matches to begin with against good teams who are well managed.

Yes an early test for the new manager.

Two good results will put the team in a far better place than we are in pre & post Legia for the next Euro qualifier that’s for sure. We need a bit of confidence to stop the negativity.

As for RONNY l don’t know anything about him. I’ve not read or listened to anything he has said. I’m only interested in what happens on the park. I do know Norwegian football is poor and hope Ronny is a lot better than its current standard.

I wouldn’t have Jackie as Celtic manager right now. Tommy Wright I rate him as a good manager that’s all.

  19. Tell it how you see it Tonydonnelly67 , plenty of other teams to support if you can’t stand or stand up for the hoops. Hope that there are more like you in the stands lifting the celts than wailley wailley football managers financial whizzes and aspiring politicians who can find fault in anything and everything Celtic do. Celtic deserve better. C’mon the hoops. Glasgow is green and white.

It’s not you in particular I’m talking about. I just cant believe that everyone who posts anything “negative” is automatically a hun. I’ve been following Celtic everywhere for a long time and it hurts when you see us going backwards from a position of strength . Doesnt mean to say I won’t be in Perth tonight. It’s a forum and invariably people disagree, definitely wouldnt be healthy if everyone took the same stance and let the board walk all over us. If it wasnt for the dissension from our support in the ’90s where would we be now ?
