Legia looming

847

Celtic have played four games against Polish opposition, losing to Legia Warsaw and Wisla Crakow in 2006 friendlies, drawing thanks to a very late Kenny Dalglish goal against Wislaw, before losing the return game. We’re going to need to break new ground if we’re to reach the Champions League play-off round.

As I predicted, you can ignore the 1-1 draw with St Pat’s last week, Legia are a far better team than that result suggested and it now looks like they have thrown off their summer slumber.

Time to hit form, Celtic.

Any ST holder will have the option of buying a ticket mate and certainly before their given out to other sources.

  2. HT – just had this …

@embramike only lower tier open for this match (a)

Whole stadium was open and I got a ticket that matched my seat in WS2. No way could we all squeeze into lower tier.

Stadium holds 67k so why is the top tier not being opened???

The whole stadium was open on Tuesday, with the exception of the North East corner.

Quite an impressive venue to be honest, great view of the game, if you can get there on time… which is an altogether different challenge.

I know that obviously the first game was on the ST and the Legia game will cost but surely there would be a bigger crowd for that than there was on Tuesday?

  6. Still think that with right result in Poland we could have another 40k crowd if not more.

No way we can all fit into the seats available on the Stadium map for online tickets

I think the opposite. I spent 5.5 hours travelling 70 miles round trip to watch 56 minutes of football. I doubt I’ll be repeating the experience, novel as it was to see the team play a home game in Edinburgh.

Don’t doubt other folk will be in the same boat. I’m sure there will be a decent crowd, but Edinburgh can’t cope with 40,000 folk coming into and leaving the city from the same direction, and I’m disinclined to prove it all over again, this time paying out 3 x £20 for the privilege.

CP is in the middle of nowhere transport wise yet we ‘away’ fans all travel there every 2 weeks and plan accordingly – midweek games included.

Murrayfield handles 67,000 several times a year for the rugby, predominantly coming in from the west of the city – I know as I live nearby. They all seem to manage the travel ok.

I think we will get a big crowd of fans in what could be a knife edge game for CL qualification. If it was at CP – I would make sure as usual I got there ok from Edinburgh.

I was through at Murrayfield today on rugby duties and heard that for the Legia home tie it’s only the lower tier just now, for the season-book only sales, then opening upper tier if necessary after the take-up of those sales is known.

Can’t vouch for the accuracy of that but that’s as it was told to me…

  12. Some info please: Will be in Lanzarote for the the home game against Legia, we have not been there for a few years. Any advise where I can watch the game. We will be in Puerto Del Carmen (the old town) Cheers Jim

  13. The occasional rockets that are largely ineffective was a convenient scapegoat. The Israelis and their eye for an eye Biblical type response ,CORKCELT wrote,

I do not wish to get into further arguments on this subject, but as of yesterday Hamas had fired 2,900 rockets into Israel.Another 8,000 stockpiled. You would class that as”Occasional”?.The only reason these rockets have not caused similar mayhem in Israel,is that the Air Defence System is bringing them down.

Sounds possible but why was this not stated on the web site after offering us ‘as like ST’ tickets for the first game?

Have bought a lower tier ticket anyway. Only certain areas available according to the stadium map. Rest ‘sold out’ (away fans etc??)

If the game was at CP, would they close the Main Stand upper level and push us into the lower tier – no way!

Different things going on. I applaud everyone who travels to games, and I’ve clocked up a few miles myself over the years, but I’m disinclined to do that again.

Great stadium, absurd location, lousy access, hopeless roads network, quaint, small, infrequent trams. I’ve been to Bolton and back in less time.

The infrastructure can’t cope with the volume coming from one direction, and neither can my old man.

An incredible story of him and his coach Brother Colm the

    Inspiring and well worth watching.

btw, the upper rows of the lower tier of the West stand at Murrayfield gives a cracking view of the game. I wouldn’t worry about upper/lower, just get high up in the lower tier and you’ll be sorted.

I’ve always found it difficult to comment on the situation in Gaza as IMO there are serious faults-and thus excuses-on both sides.

However, innocent people are being killed, maimed, made destitute. The Israeli response is entirely disproportionate.

  21. Evening, is it just me or are the press here raising the profile of Legia Warsaw; they seem to be stoking up that we should be afraid.

It reminds me of last year against Shaktar, they built up the long throw in, the bait of which was taken, everyone holdng there breath, you could feel the tension prior to the throw, it was nothing we hadn’t faced before… a throw in into the box.

We had one the other night which went into the box without the blink of an eye.

I wasn’t there so I’m basing my assessment of fan experience on what I’ve read on here.

It would appear that most really enjoyed the occasion but travel to and from the game proved to be problematic.

I know that normally when my bus travels to both Easter Rd and Tynecastle we don’t leave Edinburgh by the usual routes. I think we head south, it’s longer but cuts out much of the post game traffic congestion.

It may be a case that those travelling need to prepare better or just give more time for the journeys.

Assuming Celtic get past Legia it’s fortunate Celtic are in the Champions route to the CL. So instead of an Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen or Porto in the play off round lying in wait it will only be a Steau Bucharest , Bratislava or APOEL. Should be nae bother based on Celtic’s improved squad from last year and better preparation.

My guess is that those – like you – who travel with a bus will have a largely different experience to those of us who self-administer travel.

You’ll enjoy the event. It’s a cracking stadium, good for a football crowd, the seating and view of the game are spot on, and the pitch is perfect.

FYI I know the city pretty well. My brother stays there, and I’m through on business frequently. I figured 2 and a half hours was time enough to drive through, park, ride, have a pint and enjoy the game. I was wrong. By about an hour and a half…
