Leigh, Efe, Mikael, Dedryk and Jozo

I got my wish last night, that Leigh Griffiths would reach the 40 goal mark for the season, and what a great goal it was too, memories of Love St ’86. Also delighted Leigh was aware-enough to mimic Henrik’s ” five zero” gesticulation when he reached 50 in 2001.

40 goals for Celtic in a season is a very rare achievement, as Paul John Dykes pointed out this morning, it’s now only been done 13 times in 128 years.  Jimmy McGrory (four times, three in a row) and Henrik Larsson (three times, two in a row), are the only two who have achieved this more than once in their Celtic careers, so Leigh knows what he needs to do next season to get a really special place in the history books.

As for the other pertinent points from last night’s game in Perth, I can cut Stefan Johansen some slack. McDiarmid Park was a farmer’s field not so long ago, and St Johnstone’s first goal looked like it came as a result of a plough intervention.

Efe Ambrose is another story. Last night’s decision to challenge (Logan Bailly) for a ball inside his own six-yard box was inexplicable but consistent with his general awareness this season. When the new manager is in place, someone inside Lennoxtown needs to find the earliest possible moment to sit him down and play the Efe highlights video.

We have a good central defender in Erik Sviatchenko (club captain in the making), and one who could become so in Jozo Simunovic. If Jozo gets himself fit for July we should be well-placed for the qualifiers, but those two aside, we are struggling in central defence.

Out of contract Charlie Mulgrew is in the latter stages of his career, but can be trusted to do a job without causing unnecessary alarm every week. Mikael Lustig’s days as a rampaging full back may be limited by his persistent hip issues, so playing as auxiliary central defender, as he often does for Sweden, works on paper.

I’d be far from confident facing Champions League qualifiers with Efe or Dedryk Boyata, who could still makes Belgium’s Euro’s squad, but if Jozo’s fit, signing a right back, with Mikael covering central defence, feels like an appropriate use of resources.

I’ve always liked ex-Celtic View man Andrew Smith and enjoyed his writing. Then I read his whataboutery garbage in today’s Scotsman, accusing Celtic fans of hypocrisy, comparing the Rangers scandal to Atletico Madrid, Coventry City, Luton Town et al. What an absolute and utter load of pish.

    1. We don’t give a toss about clubs who aren’t the most direct threat to our interests and deny us legitimate trophies and income through systematic cheating over a number of years.

    2. Without knowing their detailed circumstances, did any of these clubs actively lie to the footballing and tax authorities?

    3. Were any of these the establishment club in their respective countries, with all of the pre-existing advantages that confers?

    4. As a corollary to that, were any of these clubs actively aided by the football authorities in their respective countries, up to an including having their former (implicated) club secretary employed as the chairman of that footballing authority?

What about all of that context Andrew? Now dismissed in my book as a total, appeasing eejit.

We all started watching Celtic play in a sport.

Competing next year against a 4 year old club, which will be billed as going for its 55th title makes it a farce, as much of a “sport” as WWE.

In fact, it’s worse, as at least they call themselves entertainment. A bit of truth, while our league will be based on The Big Lie.

If the club could at least acknowledge this, we might feel more comfortable with the situation. They have the backing of several courts, counsel who spoke of Charles Green acquiring the assets of the former club, and Law Lords who have dismissed the notion of the club being somehow a separate entity from the company which runs it.

Now this week we have the UEFA coefficient information, which does not give Sevco the coefficient it would have were it the same club.

Rangers walked away from tens of millions of debt to 276 creditors by not being Rangers anymore.

Do Sevco have to pay these creditors?

No, so they can’t be Rangers.

Resisting the same club nonsense and exposing the continuity myth for what it is, should be priority number one for the club.

Who wants to pay to watch a farce, set in an Orwellian narrative?

Especially if you’ve already paid good money to watch a rigged league before.

At least then we had ignorance as an excuse.

    Hail Hail!

We are all on the same page regards the same club myth.

Celtic have been up against it from the outset. But we can’t punish Celtic for the governance issues in Scottish football.

Trusted posters on CQN have worked closely with the club on the aforementioned issues and we have to take their word that Celtic are on the same page as us.

If not, there is no way the powerbrokers at Celtic could ride it out forever.

Just IMO calling for a boycott right now is dangerous.

We are going for 6 titles in a row, we HAVE won against the cabal and an even bigger victory is in progress.

Now is not the time to jump ship.

Call me ole fashioned but what ‘sucks the life out of the ole bhlog is stupid, interminable arguments about multi faceted and complex problems, but which the protagonists feel they have a unique insight into, and which they must share with us , usually using the same technique as an ole Hilti gun fixin’ a nail in an ole breeze block.

These arguments are like an ole cheap Woolworth’s lightbulb, they generate more heat than light and eventually ole Godwin is brought on in a futile attempt to shift the unmoveable.

I wonder why they don’t use their Worldclass intellectual abilities to do something more useful, like fixin’ the wee Large Hadron Collider after the weasel chewed through the flex.

Sydneytim and BMCUWP what do you mean by a jock stein manager ….before Celtic he managed Dunfermline and hibs , Martin o did well with Leicester but neither arrived with Celtic ” credentials” like Tony Mobray or Roy Keene , havin a laff here, when he had a retirement season at Celtic Park one good game against the Hun. Keene managerial record is rank, we need a manager who punches above their weight which was the Ronny punt. Try again I think.

To be fair, we have had some absolute guff playing for us in the past.

Remember we had a back 4 of Naylor, McManus, Caldwell & Telfer. Yikes.

We had Rab Douglas in goals for YEARS

The N’Guemo and Crosas pairing in midfield makes Biton look dynamic!

  6. Res 12 is a very small cog in a very big wheel.

LNS is a much easier sham to go after imo, all the facts are there, yet nothing apart from ” We are disappointed in the outcome”

There is no will for change from those who run the club, they are very happy with things they way they are, else something would have been done before now.

Pity, cos now that we know for sure they have been cheating for decades more supporters will walk as they won’t contribute to a rigged game, and who can blame them.

  7. The Battered Bunnet on

Celtic has a pretty well-defined strategy in terms of how we can compete in the Game given the skewed competitive landscape.

The next manager needs to be someone who knows how to make it work.

Since no one interviewing the candidates knows how themselves, the only rational approach is to appoint someone who has done it before elsewhere, gone round the cycle a number of times, and whose record evidences his knowledge.

Ronny’s appointment is a case study in this regard.

Of all the candidates mooted, the only one with the requisite experience and record is David Moyes.

  8. I really think far too much weight is placed on LNS in the grand scheme things. It’s a legal opinion, and it has some weight due to the seniority of the legal mind engaged but it’s not some set in stone ruling and in that respect it is no greater than having asked Austin Lafferty to look at it.

Celtic have done nothing to stop the cheating that went on and continues to go on. they say nothing. they have had 4 years. They just want it all to go away. and carry on being second class citizens like before 2012

  12. I agree that constant negativity from certain posters detracts from the blog. Would you agree that having obvious “board” or plc cheerleaders similarly makes this blog less than what it was.

I am all for waiting for Res12 to work it’s way out. And for the final court decision on the “Big Tax Case” to have been reached before Celtic, and other clubs, make a statement on titles won etc by RFC and for a new inquiry on the same, involving removal of titles etc .

However you are still telling your customers how to complain. You are not going to get people back with that type of thinking. To me, it’s the same kind of attitude that BlantyreTim referred to this morning at 7.25 and if that’s how the plc are thinking then I think they are wrong.

Is the blog designed for Celtic supporters to air their views on Celtic and the world at large or merely to be a hagiography of how great a Celtic supporter each individual is?

Having watched Celtic since October 67,I recall many post-match discussions about how great we were-did you see, what about,oh that was magic-and fewer about what went wrong. They were usually put down as a bad day at the office.

So if CQN,a notoriously happy-clapping site,is being criticised for its negative content,I suggest that it’s not the critics who are wrong.

    It’s their targets.

  18. What happens when we win in regards to res 12, same club myth, LNS title stripping ? how will the landscape change ? The offshore report has shown the SFA is not fit or able to regulate football in this country without supervision, should Celtic not petition UEFA to find us a well run jurisdiction to operate our financially sound football club. Could that possibly be the long game for us. It’s either that or massive structural reform in the Scottish game, judging by the press and SFA cover up around these issues it would be best for everyone if they smoothed the way for Celtic to leave Scottish football then they can enjoy any kind of fictional sport they like without us scrutinising every blatant infringement of the rules.

However, can we credibly go about winning that battle – which we rightly insist is not an Us v Thems battle – then upsticks and go elsewhere?

Surely if we engage other Scottish clubs in the fight to reform the SFA and SPFL, and they fight with us, it’s a bit of a boot in the hawmaws to walk away?

    That obviously assumes 2 things,

    1) other teams have such an appetite and more importantly

    2) that Celtic does.

It might be a closer call than you think.

Typical 11 from 2011: Forster, Matthews, Majstorovic, Mulgrew, Forrest, Ki, Ledley, Samaras, Hooper, Stokes, Wanyama.

Typical 11 from 2016 (bloody difficult as it was never a settled 11, I admit): Gordon. Lustig, Sviatchenko, Boyata, Tierney, Brown, Johansen, Bitton, Roberts, Griffiths, Rogic.

In a composite 11 I’d include Lustig, Sviatchenko, Tierney, Griffiths at least. Last season’s Johansen would definitely make it. Roberts would be in before Forrest.

Not as one-sided as you might think. I guess what it might suggest is that we’ve not been all that brilliant for quite some time. On the other hand it might suggest things aren’t as bad as they seem to some of us.
