Leigh Griffiths in Dalglish footsteps with McLeish

243

I don’t think I have ever known an international manager to admit that one of his players has blanked him and not returned phone calls, but Alex McLeish confirmed this is his status with Leigh Griffiths.  Leigh was dropped for Scotland’s last internationals.

McLeigh asked the player proves himself, but Leigh has nothing to prove at this level.  He is without doubt the most complete Scottish striker in the business right now.  It suits Celtic fine if he is allowed to rest during international breaks, as those times apart, he is likely to plan two games a week until the middle of December.

Celtic greats have sat on the Scotland substitutes bench, while lesser players are honoured, for the best part of a century.  This reached a depressing peak in 1976 when Scotland manager Willie Ormond dropped Celtic’s Kenny Dalglish to the bench for the Home International against Wales.  Had Kenny played, he would have matched the Scottish record for consecutive games played, then and forever held by former Rangers player, George Young, but a Celtic player was never going to be allowed that honour.

That was the only game in his entire Scotland tenure that Ormond did not use a substitute.  Dalglish was needed for the next game against England, where he scored in a Scotland win.  The matter is not acknowledged at the Hampden Museum.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Great Scottish Run appeal for the Celtic FC Foundation.  It was a great event and an honour to wear the Foundation badge.

  1. I expect that the SFA will play the financial card – too expensive to take the case to the CAS so why not “move along now” ?

  2. So they are talking about moving us to murrayfield are they having a feckin laugh.

We were out the hat first and playing an Edinburgh side.

Surely DOBS v Sheep should be moved to say 2pm at murrayfield to allow sheep to get down and back at a reasonable time…

    Feckin disgrace

You are right about emptying the park, it’s the only thing they will take any notice of, that and the lack of money of course, problem is they are one step ahead, they brought in BR and filled the ground again, you might get your wish sooner than you think, Lawwell is doing his level best to get rid of BR.

  4. Mark Walters is a rat and a weasel that will fleece the sevcoites by selling them his book.

Although I never knew zombies could read.

  5. Cathach’s brother has just phoned me to remind me of that evening when the Brazilians played. I can’t remember but he tells me that Jinky brought the house down with a wonder goal, after being shirked for much of the game.

By the way, he, like every Celtic supporter, I presume, feels very strongly that if any 2 teams play at Murrayfield, it should be the 2 who were drawn last.

I hope if we are invited to go there, our board will refuse.

  7. Don’t be holding your breath for any statement from Celtic, if anything they will praise the powers that be….

  8. Any regard I had for Walters after those bananas being thrown at him has gone after seeing that he full bloodedly joined in the singing of such “ditties”. As for how he could say there isn’t any racialism now, let him have a wee chat with Scott Sinclair. Shameful.

By the way, was he not aware of not just the anti-Catholicism but the anti-Irish racism that was prevalent (and still is) at his old home in Govan?

Well said that man ! When I read that article earlier I wondered why Paul was telling us stuff that we have known for years , whats the point if you aint gonna get to the heart of the celtic fans real problem….and our real problem is Celtic. Their silence has been deafening. They never stand up for us ,never ever ever ,they allow us as a club and a support to be shat on from high and still they say nothing ……….remember years ago all the nonsense about “dont disturb your enemy when they are making a total arse of things” …..” keep our powder dry ……….all squirrels . Could I ask respectfully Paul do you honestly think Celtic will ever stand up to the cheating that has went on ? I kmow some will say that Celtic cant do it on thier own ……bollocks we are the biggest club by far we should be throwing our weight about, not just for us but for the whole of scottish football . If we dont not a thing will change . Fast forward 10-20 years we will still be getting shat on .Yes we will get pelters from the media, who cares they hate us and harm us every chance they get . And it speaks volumes when a gentleman the likes of Auldhied appears to be losing his patienc . Paul ?

Never mind what ground we play the semi on both are neutral.

So who decides what length the grass will be?

    KEEP THE FAITH☺☺

  11. Just in and read that the Sevco Friendly Association are now considering moving our game to Murrayfield . Why not just play it at Tynecastle and give us 500 tickets .

Another ‘ take it on the chin’ scam for my club by the look of it.

Thanks as always for your response. And for the detail preceding RIFC’s position re the complaint and their reference to the CAS. I have never accepted that the SFA’s own judicial panel was not “competent”, to examine the case before it given the subject matter, I mean who else could possibly hear it, but that that decision did not or does not automatically, (“a priory”, if MIT is on board today), lead to the CAS. Not to say it should not go there of course.

That would be the same as saying that Scottish football cannot afford to pay the price of applying football rules as they are intended.

Why would anyone with any sense of self respect want to pay to watch a game with no enforceable rules?

Either an SFA member club acted dishonestly towards fellow member clubs to the gain of the former and loss of the latter or they did not.

No club is too big to be allowed to get away with that. Certainly not on the grounds of cost.

The moral hazard of allowing such behaviour to go unrecognised never mind unpunished is already poisoning what is supposed to be a sport played fairly under universally applied rules.

  15. “a priory”? Hope MIT doesn’t think I think he belongs in a Monastery.

“a priori”. Should leave the Latin to the Glasgow Bhoys! And the Toronto Tims!

  16. I do not attend cup games anymore so perhaps my opinion is immaterial anyway. But to play devils advocate here, if our game’s at Hampden and the other at Murrayfield then 3 sets of fans are having to travel. Switch the game round and only 2 sets of fans are travelling – Aberdeen to Glasgow and us to Edinburgh. In terms of the transport logistics that’s something that might be used as a valid reason for what seems to be being planned?

The fuzzy bit is whether the 5 Way Agreement excused RIFC being accused of breaches by RFC. I thought that was the card RIFC were playing.

As I recall the JPDT would continue ( but paying attention to the new information supplied that could/should have been obtained by the Compliance Officer under UEFA FFP declaration from RFC in 2011) and that terms of reference for CAS would be drawn up between the parties.

Allowing for the Comp Off resigning and replacement not long in post exactly where do matters stand on those ToRs?

There is no need to delay. The JPDT do their job using All the information they have been supplied with or directed to obtaining to the whole of 2011 including discussions SFA had with UEFA on a June Monitoring submission that repeated the same line as given in March and then let RIFC appeal to CAS even if on basis SFA lost jurisdiction under the 5 Way.

Just get what did take place out there first under JPP instead of using the process to delay it.

Doncaster was on sportsound on Friday night. He said, “in terms of other options, there just aren’t any”.

How much longer do we have to be lumbered with this complete incompetent? How can he stay in a job he is clearly incapable of doing? Anyway, looking forward to him explaining why they are looking to change an arrangement which apparently “suits everybody”.

  19. Alternatively, with Sevco away from home on the Thursday and Aberdeen the furthest from either venue, maybe logic would dictate that they play in the later game (4pm??) with ours kicking off at say 1pm, regardless of the venues?

  20. alternatively,

rangers should play at ibrox against kilwinning,

and a hearts/aberdeen first 22 versus celtic 11 at ross county with an 11pm kick off for viewers in mongolia.

the winners will then play any other 11 they have that didnt make an appearance this season.

well makes as much sense as anything doncaster comes up with.

fleck knows why lawell is pals with this incompetant.

What is in the final 5WA? Does it refer to the CAS? I doubt it. Or does it specifically exclude that possibility, or more likely preclude any possibility that RIFC could be held responsible for the sins of their fathers. I agree with you of course that the onus should be on RIFC to appeal to the CAS, though as we both know that is not what they intended when they referred to it. But as you have suggested, you need a decision (or even a non-decision) to appeal against. And it is here that the SFA, not for the first time, have given RIFC at least, a get out clause.

  26. So all of a sudden, with Ian Maxwell at the heart of it, they’ve managed to consider something they said was impossible only days ago. Firstly, incompetent and dysfunctional doesn’t cover it. I suspect that, with Hearts all but admitting they would have taken only a small support to Hampden, which has been a bit of a fortress for us of late, it would have been a tall order for them to progress. Switch the tie to Murrayfield and you get 25k jambos and a much greater chance of a Hearts victory in what would be a quasi home game for them.

murrayfield wont really mean many more tickets for us if any at all

hearts will ask and get half the tickets

at hampden with a 7.45 sunday kick off they probably wouldnt ask for any more than about 15000 because they know they wouldnt sell them

  29. ” It ( The decision to look at one game being played at Murrayfield) comes after Hampden Park Limited waived its right to host both games.”

I am certainly no fan of those who run the game in Scotland but, with the conditions in place at the time of announcing two games on the same day at Hampden, there was not much else the SPFL could do.

Criticism can be leveled at them for having signed up to agreements without due care about possible consequences . Once they had done that, they were stuck with it.
