Leigh Griffiths in Dalglish footsteps with McLeish

243

I don’t think I have ever known an international manager to admit that one of his players has blanked him and not returned phone calls, but Alex McLeish confirmed this is his status with Leigh Griffiths.  Leigh was dropped for Scotland’s last internationals.

McLeigh asked the player proves himself, but Leigh has nothing to prove at this level.  He is without doubt the most complete Scottish striker in the business right now.  It suits Celtic fine if he is allowed to rest during international breaks, as those times apart, he is likely to plan two games a week until the middle of December.

Celtic greats have sat on the Scotland substitutes bench, while lesser players are honoured, for the best part of a century.  This reached a depressing peak in 1976 when Scotland manager Willie Ormond dropped Celtic’s Kenny Dalglish to the bench for the Home International against Wales.  Had Kenny played, he would have matched the Scottish record for consecutive games played, then and forever held by former Rangers player, George Young, but a Celtic player was never going to be allowed that honour.

That was the only game in his entire Scotland tenure that Ormond did not use a substitute.  Dalglish was needed for the next game against England, where he scored in a Scotland win.  The matter is not acknowledged at the Hampden Museum.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Great Scottish Run appeal for the Celtic FC Foundation.  It was a great event and an honour to wear the Foundation badge.

  2. This years AGM should be the one that Res 12 gets the go ahead. No more mealy mouthing from the Board. We have waited far too long as it is.With the amount of evidence gathered its a disgrace Celtic have dithered and done nothing. My honest opinion is,not one of them has the cohones to take it the full road. Why,is anyones guess.Disgusting.

Ye, it left a mark on me, down from 3 inhalers to 1 now.

    A cracking few days though.

I’d no holidays left or would have made the trip to Salzburg. HH

  4. AEK struggling just a little bit. And what on earth has happened to Moussa’s hair? Watching the BT goals show by the way.

  5. I have always supported Scotland, no matter who they were playing, even against my greatgrandfathers team the republic of Ireland .sorry with a heavy heart, I cant continue to support people who sing offensive songs about me and my religion, just seen some videos that visibly upset me,.good god I did not choose to be born here . sorry if ive offended any Scotland supporters.hh.

  6. While on the subject of the Board,if the semi final is switched, then we must have Hampden. We were drawn out first. With Hearts playing there last year,it takes away a fair chunk of the neutrality.Easier for Dons fans.

I wouldbfully expect our Board to tell them to GTF.If not, then they should.

My God, BBC Scotland cannot stop covering itself in glory, can it.

They spent the weekend applying a three-coat gloss finish to the awful truth that Celtic won and the huns lost.

“Gerrard loses for only the second time in 18 matches” was a gold-standard arselicking headline.

So was the linguistic and editorial gymnastics to avoid the simple truth that a hun supporter had bloodied the head of an official by throwing something hard and sharp at him. Like they have been doing all season, secure in the knowledge that nothing will be reported.

If attempted murder of Croatian supporters isn’t deemed newsworthy, then what’s a linesman?

Today was a masterpiece of sly. SFA rethink LC semi-finals. Hooray. Celtic v Hearts at Murrayfield. Eh?

And thus the agenda is set.

But the very worst of this failing and corrupt organisation came in a little powderpuff piece of fluff down the page, headlined “Quiz: How many Scottish one-cap wonders can you name?”

Clearly intended as a bit of fun. But among the names is John Kennedy.

I’m not saying this is anti-Celtic. What I am saying is that it is sloppy, thoughtless, ignorant and wounding, given that his hugely promising career was ended playing for his country.

There are quite a few people at the BBC in Atlantic Quay who have an agenda. There are a lot of others who do what they are told and lack fibre, gumption and talent.

    Never a good mix.

I was horrified to see John Kennedy’s name used in that way.

I was going up until 3 weeks ago. My son wanted to drive his new Audi down the Autobhan to Austria. Him and his mate pulled out. Female pressure I reckon? ?

That is truly horrendous what you have reported there. A bit of shock has just hit me, that anyone could write that about John Kennedy. Stunned.

Celts v Hearts was first out the hat in the draw.

That should be the Hampden game, surely?

Let the huns travel to Edinburgh… less travelling for Dons fans too…!!!

What is the logic behind C v H at Murrayfield

    and

the assumption that Sevco v Dons is at Hamdump ???

Where’s the localism? Where’s the identity?

Referees have an agenda to adhere to, at this level the big teams must progress, just follow the money.

  14. Sixtaseven my thoughts exactly. In any other draw the teams out first play first and at the preferred park.

We are being totaly inconvenienced here, the club should be kicking up a feck.

  15. For me, the question is not WHO should play where but HOW it is decided who should play where.

I’ve sent an email to the Director of BBC Scotland, cc’d to the BBC Director General in London, asking if they think it is appropriate to make scornful fun of a young man with immense potential whose career was ended while playing for his country.

If I get a reply I’ll post it.

  18. Man Utd are garbage, for the money they have spent, sites like CQN would be having kittens if we had spent half of what they have and were this bad, enjoying it, can’t stand that rsole Mourinho.

Would guess they didn’t want that mob in the pub all day before the game

  24. Armstrong sat on the bench all night tonight as Southampton played at Everton in the League cup. Roberts did same at the weekend for Girona. John McGinn’s Villa drew again as Steve Bruce verges on the brink. Piccini mixed so far, some good but a couple of bad errors.

    What could have been CSC

  25. From Valencia quick news…

‘I do not know who has been the genius who has sold to Montoya and has signed Piccini. What a game of shit, one more, that has made the side of Valencia‘

‘Piccini, the opposite face on the right. The great weakness of Valencia, gave in all the duels and was centimeters (lack of Rashford) to cost the party to Marcelino.’

‘If you injure the Piccini this would do us a big favor that bad is the guy this for not insulting @valenciacf him’

    Oh dear.
