Leigh Griffiths in Dalglish footsteps with McLeish

243

I don’t think I have ever known an international manager to admit that one of his players has blanked him and not returned phone calls, but Alex McLeish confirmed this is his status with Leigh Griffiths.  Leigh was dropped for Scotland’s last internationals.

McLeigh asked the player proves himself, but Leigh has nothing to prove at this level.  He is without doubt the most complete Scottish striker in the business right now.  It suits Celtic fine if he is allowed to rest during international breaks, as those times apart, he is likely to plan two games a week until the middle of December.

Celtic greats have sat on the Scotland substitutes bench, while lesser players are honoured, for the best part of a century.  This reached a depressing peak in 1976 when Scotland manager Willie Ormond dropped Celtic’s Kenny Dalglish to the bench for the Home International against Wales.  Had Kenny played, he would have matched the Scottish record for consecutive games played, then and forever held by former Rangers player, George Young, but a Celtic player was never going to be allowed that honour.

That was the only game in his entire Scotland tenure that Ormond did not use a substitute.  Dalglish was needed for the next game against England, where he scored in a Scotland win.  The matter is not acknowledged at the Hampden Museum.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Great Scottish Run appeal for the Celtic FC Foundation.  It was a great event and an honour to wear the Foundation badge.

It wasnt Paul’s blog that prompted me, it was simply that the time to show impatience had arrived.

Since posting I am encouraged that the issues are recognised where they need to be and patience is once more required – but not of the infinite variety.

    Auldheid,

has the QC- the minister for sport and culture been appraised of the Res 12 info

    ========

No but it is an avenue that might need to be explored. It isn’t just Celtic shareholders who may have lost out in 2011.

The SFA before receiving any public funding should be able to satisfy the Treasury via the Scottish Government that lessons have been learned from 2011 and licensing procedures strengthened in terms of tax owed as result of the £2.8m loss the tax payer incurred. (Not to mention the larger amount lost due to the big tax case).

It does not need to be a Res12 tax payer to ask the question.

If the police wanted TRFC v Aberdeen on first because it would be more manageable to handle the consequences of a TRFC defeat then that needs to be made public.

In effect Scottish football would be giving into a threat that undermines any possibility of fairness and that is where the game now finds itself.

Decisions must be made without fear or favour.

    Seriously ?

Don’t you recall Regan and the ‘civil unrest’ pallavir ?

The establishment know that Celtic PLC are a collection of, deceitful, paper tigers, who’ll only swerve from the establishment script, if their greeted with 000’s of empty seats inside Celtic park.

Brendan is preventing that from happening, the “real” reason that he was brought to the club, was to keep Celtic park full, until the £49 Old Firm games were reinstituted back onto the fixture list, without any, empty seat, same club rebellions inside Celtic park, well, that ship has sailed, £49 Rangers FC are back in the top league again, the Celtic customers are buying the £49 Old Firm tickets again, £49 Rangers FC havent had one stolen trophy stripped, they haven’t paid any of the £140 million tax swindle back, Celtic got £20 million for Moussa, and two 2 years CL money £60 / £70 million has disappeared up a lumb, and, get this….£49 Rangers FC are getting “mysterious” money from somewhere ? I wonder where their “really” getting their money, eh ?

All of which, begs the question…. Who are the “real” gullibilly’s ?

    Aye.

” It ( The decision to look at one game being played at Murrayfield) comes after Hampden Park Limited waived its right to host both games.”

I am certainly no fan of those who run the game in Scotland but, with the conditions in place at the time of announcing two games on the same day at Hampden, there was not much else the SPFL could do.

Criticism can be leveled at them for having signed up to agreements without due care about possible consequences . Once they had done that, they were stuck with it.

Interesting in your post from yesterday. Especially the last paragraph. More than criticism should be applied to the lack of planning. The apparent failure to have a plan in place – agreed with clubs, venues, police and transport companies – prior to the draw is unforgivable and should be a matter of instant resignation or dismissal.

I agree their fumbling ineptitude deserves more than just criticism. The problem with resignations/dismissals is the calibre of likely replacement !

  19. I agree with the poster who said that no official announcement made any reference, as far as I am aware, to which game, if either, would be played at Murrayfield. The MSSM has decided that all by itself, it would seem.

  20. Remember the Police Scotland motto is Semper Vigilo which, as all good Latin scholars know, translates as Never Apologise, Never Explain.

They’ll have recognised that it’s easier to deal with angry and violent huns in daylight. Hence the scheduling.
