Leigh Griffiths in Dalglish footsteps with McLeish

243

I don’t think I have ever known an international manager to admit that one of his players has blanked him and not returned phone calls, but Alex McLeish confirmed this is his status with Leigh Griffiths.  Leigh was dropped for Scotland’s last internationals.

McLeigh asked the player proves himself, but Leigh has nothing to prove at this level.  He is without doubt the most complete Scottish striker in the business right now.  It suits Celtic fine if he is allowed to rest during international breaks, as those times apart, he is likely to plan two games a week until the middle of December.

Celtic greats have sat on the Scotland substitutes bench, while lesser players are honoured, for the best part of a century.  This reached a depressing peak in 1976 when Scotland manager Willie Ormond dropped Celtic’s Kenny Dalglish to the bench for the Home International against Wales.  Had Kenny played, he would have matched the Scottish record for consecutive games played, then and forever held by former Rangers player, George Young, but a Celtic player was never going to be allowed that honour.

That was the only game in his entire Scotland tenure that Ormond did not use a substitute.  Dalglish was needed for the next game against England, where he scored in a Scotland win.  The matter is not acknowledged at the Hampden Museum.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Great Scottish Run appeal for the Celtic FC Foundation.  It was a great event and an honour to wear the Foundation badge.

  2. Well its been a wee bit of a sleep deprived trek so far, but since I am now ensconced in The Flying Horse in Gatwick South Terminal departures, I think I am justified in deeming the stages so far a reasonable success.

That’s the first time I’ve caught the coach to Gatwick. In a previous existence when I was based in London I tended to use the M25 or in even earlier days, the North and South circular roads, and with my domestic base being in North London, my knowledge of ‘Saff ov the river’ was sketchy.

After today’s voyage through the not so leafy suburbs I feel that what was once a group of towns and then a city is spreading like a stain of property speculation, stealing every square inch for another brick or ten to sell to desperate home seekers at ridiculous kings’ ransoms.

I won’t go overboard but there is a flavour, whiff and rumble of humankind spreading like stampede of the fabled Gadarene swine towards a precipice.

Anyway, flights due to be called and I need to sink this Guinness before I soar towards the realm of Icarus, hopefully descending in a more controlled fashion. I remember my Dad telling me that the one sure thing about flying is that I would definitely land.

He was full of useful observations like that.

Hopefully when airborne I’ll scribble the tale of the spoon and the magnet “that didn’t bark in the night” and nearly scuppered my trip before I had even left Blighty’s shores. Funny mind you how airlines can now provide wifi access after essentially lieing to the all and sundry that it would interfere with their instruments.

I wonder if the charges they make has anything to do with their volte face?

    But till later ….Hail hail

    Matt

was worthy of The Urban Voltaire himself. I can give no higher compliment to a Glaswegian.

And if I could remember the name of the other one we went to frequently,I would recommend that too.

Failing that,The Rock on Falls Road is a bucket-list job,and a short taxi ride.

Have a great time in a great city.

With respect I think the article is very relevant at this time and the comparisons are stark as we seem to be in a very similar situation and the instigator is still at the club.

Mahe, the man behind Sentinel Celts, has clearly stated that the site is not intended as competition nor as a counterpoint to CQN

Like every other Celtic site,it is meant to be a complementary and additional reading option.

The site accepts all views,it expects to receive many which disagree with the view of the author,or of other posters. Like most,it is open to all.

I’m grateful to DHARMABAM and DILLIGAFBHOY for their approval of today’s article, and I hope that in time others such as CELTIC40ME can come round to acceptance and approval.

But I know that the site won’t Fish for compliments. Or adverts, come to that.

It doesn’t offer anything new, it’s just recycling old arguments, hearsay, and assumptions to make a point. I can see it appealing to people who enjoy seeing their opinions reinforced, and perhaps even more validated because they’re being published by a blog with its own name, but it’s nithibg you haven’t read many times on message posts before.

Not true of Paul67’s blogging, and not because he goes out of his way to be different either.

  10. JIMTHETIM53,

    Happy birthday,and many of them,

    Hail hail,

    C’mon the hoops,

  11. Totally shafted again. We’ve been cheated in practically every game this season, now this. This cannot stand. Tell them to ram their pashy cup, never liked it anyway.
