I know what you’re thinking. After the media heavyweights told you, on the day Neil Lennon resigned from Celtic, that he was going because he was unhappy with the amount of money he had to spend, pitching up at Bolton Wanderers is a bit curious. What you were told that day was nonsense, deliberately headlined to undermine Celtic.
Neil had been in the shop window since the Everton job came up in May 2013 and had long decided he wanted a crack at managing in England before the end of last season.
On paper, the Bolton job looks daunting. The club are bottom of the second tier of English football, while those immediately above them, Blackpool, Fulham, Wigan and Birmingham, like Bolton have recently had Premier League experience. It’s early enough in the season that survival is a reasonable expectation, but Neil will know little about the squad he takes over, or about their ability to step up.
Taking this job is a huge risk to an accomplished CV but so is spending an extended period on the side-lines as an out-of-work manager. Whatever the reasons he didn’t land a better job over the summer, Neil is a better manager than the English clubs appear to believe. He’ll get Bolton organised and picking up points against teams with better players, just as he did regularly in Europe with Celtic.
In other news many of the same media heavyweights referred to above today report Arsenal are preparing a bid for a Celtic player, in January. After selling us the same story that the same player would be subject to the same bid back in August.
It’s as though they have space to fill on the sports pages and there’re not been a lot of football recently.

Seems the fact lennon has taken over a team with alot of debt that its very easy to say it proves he didnt leave celtic because of the very poor budget on offer.
I dont agree,
i dont know if he left because of more tightness and lack of ambition by a board willing to gamble on CL qualification each year but i do believe it was one of the reasons.
He’s been with no coaching job since may/june so obviously is willing to take something now that he prob would have turned down in july.
Pretty clear that our supposed new assistant manager suddenly got phone call to say he would be the number 1 instead.
I wonder how much the board would like it if all our fans gambled their seats for nxt season and decided to just pay on the day…whenever they felt like it ..
weet weet weet
I was at that game when Mcvie done young Brian Mclaughlan
i was standing at the front of the terracing when it happened
and i turned round to see my auld dad and his pal running down
the steps screaming at Mcvie, i’d never seen my dad so angry, i
remember saying da his knee is round the wrong way.
A wonderful prospect and his career ruined by a thug.

Nice, the Sandals staff, just having a huge huddle before starting their work, not noticed that before :-)
Hail Hail
Good luck to Lenny and Johan at Bolton. The only way is up NFL, never one to shirk a challenge . Even given their huge debt and perilous circumstance I would hazard a guess that their ‘biscuit tin’ with the transfer funds coupled with a fairly lucrative wage structure compares very favorably with, if not exceeds, that which Lenny had to work with at Celtic. Now the question is will Lenny and Johan be rushing to sign Amido and Derk etc etc etc etc etc etc on either loan or permanent deals. Will any of our current squad, out with VVD , CG and perhaps KC, be considered suitable for a team of Bolton’s stature? And if not why not?

Had a great day yesterday at CambuslangKarting help raise £2,400 plus for Marie Curie.
———–
Very well done.Hope you are good.
Neil Lennon was accurately quoted as saying one of the reasons he left Celtic was lack of money to spend.
Surely it’s a good thing that Arsenal want to buy VVD? After all we are told that the absence if Rangers has caused a 10million pound hole in our accounts. We normally sell in the Summer to fill that hole. Our board would do well to sort out the team for the summer in January.
That means selling Virgil then, getting another centre half in, extending Denayers loan for another season… Sorting out Brown and Commons contracts and then discontinuing those of the Berget, Tonev axis.
Ikechi Anya was available for £1.5m in the summer. I doubt if that’s still the case but I would make signing him a priority.
Shaun Maloney out of contract I believe.
I’d also be making enquiries re Darren Fletcher and a few of those Polish boys who have been doing so well of late.
HT-Willie is a top man, badly treated on his exit from Celtic, hope he gets a decent job soon.A guy i know who still works for an SPFL Club, who played for SAF for a few years, told me,Willie puts on the best coaching sessions he has seen.
FFer on Neil Lennon’s appointment:
“Let’s see how [Lennon] copes in a competitive league where his club have no influence whatsoever on the football authorities or the referees association.
Lennon could do worse than trying to secure griffiths and hooper from norwich on loan.
That be food partnership i believe. Not griffiths biggest fan but hope ronnie starts to give him a chance.

Bada
He was an absolute gent and a credit to Celtic.
Good news is that he’s actually back working at Celtic.
HT -Good to hear he’s back at Celtic, outstanding record with the youths/reserves.Put him in charge of Lennoxtown and see if we can develop more of our own.HH
I fully expect to see some Celtic players being heavily linked with Bolton in January (Commons for sure) mostly down to lazy press.
Personally I think it’s a huge mistake taking such a position, albeit the mantra will be they were down before he took over and can only go up. Either way, I’ve no real interest in Botlon or indeed Lennon…..we have far more important things to look forward to.
proudbhoy- i Think Guidetti and Griffiths could be a really good front 2.
hebcelt.
You correct I was a bit confused, but truthfully I met the woman in McCuills and we had a wee blether she asked who I was and I said oldtim67 she said thank you for introducing me too Hendricks and Tonic, the face wasn’t familiar so I asked her her blogging name, she came out as quick as a flash saying she was Ernie Lynch, and my answer to her was your effing joking aren’t you, and she laughed and she said she was.

That weren’t no women, that was my wife!!!!!

I agree, but im not giving up on the serb yet. He hasnt had decent run of games yet and the service has been well below good enough.
pedrocaravanachio67.
By the way it was nice to meet you and your wife.
Oldtim67
She’s very convincing….I would say devious, but she sometimes lurks on here :-)
Likewise, meeting you….we had a wee laugh about it on the train home.
From the snippets i’ve heard ( i know i know) i’m not fully convinced the decision to leave was 100% entirely Neils…..
Couldn’t make night out as I was at Pete Wylie gig. Glad it was a success. If you get the chance though go see Pete Wylie. Legend.
I know nothing can be done about this but this is a disgraceful piece of ‘journalism’.

Keane let Celtic team-mates trash Man Utd club car

3 comments Have your say!
ROY Keane has revealed how he got revenge on Sir Alex Ferguson by letting his Celtic team-mates mess up a Manchester United club car.
The fiery star refused to hand back the flash Audi A8 after Ferguson fell out with him and told him his time at Old Trafford was up.
But when he signed for Celtic Keane allowed players to pile into the motor covered in mud on drives back from the club’s old Barrowfield training ground in Glasgow’s east end.
Keane, 43, told in his new autobiography The Second Half how he didn’t return the car for three months after leaving United.
He said: “You’d get changed at Celtic Park and you’d get in your car and drive to the training ground up the road. It’s different now but this was when I played.
“The biggest challenge was whose car were we going in. We’d be sitting in the dressing room and someone would say: ‘Whose turn is it?’
“Because after training you’d have to drive back and nine time out of ten the rain was p****** down so a gang of players would be getting in your car, covered in muck.
“I enjoyed that, the bit of banter. You would hear things like ‘Listen lads, I’ve a Bentley. Nobody’s getting into it with their f****** boots on.
“I had the United car for the first few weeks so I invited everyone into the back of it, boots as well.
“I got to know the lads in the car. I’d go with Dion Dublin, or Stiliyan Petrov. We’d only be in the car for five minutes but we’d have the crack.”

Can Celtic complain about this pathetic non story?
Neil Lennon manager of Bolton in free fall in the Championship.Thought he’d have commanded a better job than this given, he’s brought Dolph and Parker to complete an invincible trio.
At 43 years of age and five trophies in the bag Ronny Deila at 39 has time and a magnificent platform in his grasp. He could even have more league titles, by Neil’s
age.
Well………he could,…….. couldn’t he?

Willie McStay was one that NL moved on after he succeeded Mowbray,it was always my view he would have been well served retaining him as No 2,however that would have made him a threat.
Good luck to NL and Co. at Bolton nice guy but annoyed me as a Manager with silly selections which were not logical.
Having been loyal to James Forrest to the point of annoyance we await his approach to secure him for his new set up.
We still don’t know the truth about Johan’s and Neil’s departure. When Johan left he clearly stated that he wanted to be a manager in his own right and that he’d spent enough time as an assistant. Yet the moment Neil gets a new job he’s happy to return to being his assistant. Would seem to give a lot of credence to the persistent rumour that Neil left because Ronny was to be imposed on him as his new assistant.
Cowiebhoy congrats on your anniversary. I hope your daughter enjoys mexico I went there also took a month and enjoyed it immensely. Was thinking that Sandals huddle might catch on with your work across the water :-)

There’s nothing particularly anti-Celtic about it. Mostly it just make RK out to be a pathetic external bowel sphincter.

How are you bearing up with Ronny’s selections?

Yes I see your point but I do think there is an attempt in the headline to blacken the name of Celtic.
Keane let Celtic team-mates trash Man Utd club car
by STUART MacDONALD
The use of the word “trashed” implies that they vandalized the car like a bunch of hooligans
Rather than they got in it with their muddy boots after training. It’s sensationalism and a chance to put a negative story out about Celtic. Two birds with one stone on a slow football news day.
Paulo – nice, thanks
Hope all is going swimmingly with your good self
Talk about swimming, catch you all soon :-)
Hail Hail
Also regarding NL’s departure, these decisions are usually based on a variety of factors.
Neil probably left at a good time when his stock was it’s highest it was going to be. Just like Tony Pulis at the start of the year.
I am sure if we offered Neil the money he would have wanted he would have stayed but we didn’t. We believed in Neil, just not that much.
Other fish in the sea and that.
when did willie mcstay return to celtic? and in what capacity.
excathedra44-exactly right.I know more about him leaving CP when NL was appointed, but not for on here.HH
