Lennon a better manager than England appears to believe

542

I know what you’re thinking.  After the media heavyweights told you, on the day Neil Lennon resigned from Celtic, that he was going because he was unhappy with the amount of money he had to spend, pitching up at Bolton Wanderers is a bit curious.  What you were told that day was nonsense, deliberately headlined to undermine Celtic.

Neil had been in the shop window since the Everton job came up in May 2013 and had long decided he wanted a crack at managing in England before the end of last season.

On paper, the Bolton job looks daunting.  The club are bottom of the second tier of English football, while those immediately above them, Blackpool, Fulham, Wigan and Birmingham, like Bolton have recently had Premier League experience.  It’s early enough in the season that survival is a reasonable expectation, but Neil will know little about the squad he takes over, or about their ability to step up.

Taking this job is a huge risk to an accomplished CV but so is spending an extended period on the side-lines as an out-of-work manager.  Whatever the reasons he didn’t land a better job over the summer, Neil is a better manager than the English clubs appear to believe.  He’ll get Bolton organised and picking up points against teams with better players, just as he did regularly in Europe with Celtic.

In other news many of the same media heavyweights referred to above today report Arsenal are preparing a bid for a Celtic player, in January.  After selling us the same story that the same player would be subject to the same bid back in August.

It’s as though they have space to fill on the sports pages and there’re not been a lot of football recently.

EDB…why the aggressive/mocking reply to justshatered? You asked him a question and he responded with his opinion, that’s all…Perhaps there is history between you, I don’t know…or maybe it’s because he is not part of the CQN clique…personally, I find that as the clique increases the quality of the blog diminishes, it’s becoming more like a texting service…however, if that’s what tickles your boat…

As one who longs for the days when there were more witticisms than criticisms on the ole bhlog I think the CQN ‘clique’ , if it ever existed, left the stage ages ago.

  5. funny to see the daily record trying to keep the dead Rangers alive. Front page has a headline of Ally McCoist and a picture of fat Ally – turns out it’s an ad for their serialisation of somebody’s book about Jim Baxter who played for the dead Rangers. lots of mentions in article about 9-in-a-row etc , which Baxter had no part in

    Excellent post about the clique.

Not all are like that though, some like Leftclicktic, Hamilton Tim, Lenny, Bmcuw and a few others, sorry I can’t remember everyone, do try to engage with as many as possible, others freely admit they only read posts of a select few, which does diminish the blog in my opinion.

What exactly was the reason Stan looked so hacked off with WGS during the title celebrations at the end of 2005/6 ?

While I am at it, why did Sutton deliberately get himself sent off the previous season for deliberate handball against FC Dead Club ?

I’ve always been surprised that he didn’t get much stick for this.

    ———————————————————————————-

The Sutton sending off……I was at this game…big Sutty was frustrated, the ref gave the huns every decision.

Didn’t agree with the big mhan doing what he did,but could understand it.

Do you think Johan was homesick or wanted to be a number one in his own right, as we were told, or do you think there was another reason?

As he has now joined Neil, as his number two, at Bolton I think it is safe to say there was another reason.

I don’t know what that other reason was but there was one and I think questions should be asked.

Thoughts of the jambos probably fair reflection on what they think/thought of NFL.

My best man is jambo and a great and decent guy but the jambo that says he was ok apart from HIS altercation with the sleekit one takes the biscuit for me.

It will be interesting in January when both Broonie and Commons become free to talk to other teams I would imagine they would interest Lennie who would offer more than Celtic. The sharp suited man could be rubbing his hands as it would take a couple of our higher earners of the wage bill. H.H.

I now keep my cakes in a plastic, airtight and water-proof container because the ole OXO Tins I used to use, leak………no-one, not even me, likes soggy cake!

Yup the article is a good one and covers my points about what is the cost and how is it to be met.

The solution of reducing the pay of the top men ( excluding footballers who are also employees) has this difficulty in that if the view of shareholders is these guys are overpaid, then the resolution should be about tackling that issue, not using the living wage argument as an indirect means of achieving another aim.

At the end of the day it comes down to cost. If it is nothing like £500k a year which I very much doubt then the cost and how to meet it should be set out with an assessment on the impact of whatever budget takes the hit.

If the top guys take the hit well and good but only if it is because they freely wish to demonstrate they are part of the ethos.

It has to be done right, for the right reasons, to be right.

Jimmynotpaul@ 17.49…Paul67 is the only CQNer I have ever knowingly met…I am sure the great majority are terrific people, they are Celtic supporters after all…however, it is quite apparent to any long time lurker/observer that there is a CQN snobbery…I have seen good relevant comments from the occasional posters go completely ignored…it would never happen like that in the pub…would it?

Thunder Road. I dont know if Kris played for Bolton but him and Broonie could make a difference to there team. Both have played under Lennie so its natural to assume Lennie will Know there contract position. H.H.

That photo shows traffic only slightly worse than that on the M90 northbound to the Forth Bridge yesterday afternoon.

2 and a half hours from Jct 2 M8 to South Queensferry, a stretch of some 8 miles or so, with no services, of course.

As my wife dived out the car at the McDonald’s in Queensferry to get to the Ladies, a woman with 3 kids in the car told me she had taken 3 hours to get to Queensferry from Glenrothes, as she attempted to get to Edinburgh airport for a 4 and a half hour flight to Tenerife.

And no major accident, just roadworks on the Forth Bridge.

Such wonderful traffic management in trafficscotland.
