Lennon a better manager than England appears to believe

542

I know what you’re thinking.  After the media heavyweights told you, on the day Neil Lennon resigned from Celtic, that he was going because he was unhappy with the amount of money he had to spend, pitching up at Bolton Wanderers is a bit curious.  What you were told that day was nonsense, deliberately headlined to undermine Celtic.

Neil had been in the shop window since the Everton job came up in May 2013 and had long decided he wanted a crack at managing in England before the end of last season.

On paper, the Bolton job looks daunting.  The club are bottom of the second tier of English football, while those immediately above them, Blackpool, Fulham, Wigan and Birmingham, like Bolton have recently had Premier League experience.  It’s early enough in the season that survival is a reasonable expectation, but Neil will know little about the squad he takes over, or about their ability to step up.

Taking this job is a huge risk to an accomplished CV but so is spending an extended period on the side-lines as an out-of-work manager.  Whatever the reasons he didn’t land a better job over the summer, Neil is a better manager than the English clubs appear to believe.  He’ll get Bolton organised and picking up points against teams with better players, just as he did regularly in Europe with Celtic.

In other news many of the same media heavyweights referred to above today report Arsenal are preparing a bid for a Celtic player, in January.  After selling us the same story that the same player would be subject to the same bid back in August.

It’s as though they have space to fill on the sports pages and there’re not been a lot of football recently.

    Happy NL has a new gig. Hard job he has took he went through hell as our manager so he deserves a break. But it’s not Celtic.

    If you are interested in jazz, my favourite Polish jazz composer is Leszek Mozdzer. He worked with Marcus Miller, David Gilmour, Lester Bowie, Manu Katche, Pat Matheny and with many more.

    Don’t want to restart the referendum debate (background noise of a referendum debate being re-opened which makes a slightly different noise to one being opened for the first time)

    But what the feck was Fannie Lennox greeting about saying that Scots need to grow up and stop hating the English

    The Yes campaign had no visible anti-English negativity about it, it was a very upbeat, positive, pro-Scottish campaign

    She should compare that to the her fellow No voters who engaged in acts of thuggery in George Square the night after the vote

    Fannie, zip it and never let us hear your voice again unless its when you’re singing

    Jimmynotpaul@ 17.49…Paul67 is the only CQNer I have ever knowingly met…I am sure the great majority are terrific people, they are Celtic supporters after all…however, it is quite apparent to any long time lurker/observer that there is a CQN snobbery…I have seen good relevant comments from the occasional posters go completely ignored…it would never happen like that in the pub…would it?

    ~~~~~~~~~~++~~~~~~~~~~
    I first met CQNers about two years ago,mainly because I wanted the opportunity to put names to faces of those whose company I had enjoyed by proxy the previous four years.
    During my next trip home a few months later,I met another half dozen or so,plus a wee day with only two of us-plus me.
    Next time I decided to see if I could get a group sesh,and Saturday was the third such occasion.
    IMO,it’s not a clique-far from it. It’s a group of like-minded people who contact me on the mail address I post on the blog.
    It includes many people whose opinions are polar opposites.
    And you know what-we all talk bollocks,have a good time,don’t fall out.
    Maybe you should try it instead of sniping from the sidelines. The idea of a clique is by its nature divisive.
    A dayooooot in CQN company is the polar opposite.
    I knew about the bus incident,he had more sway with the players than TM,but having achieved his objective he wanted to ensure he had no rivals ( WMcS ).
    Don’t think she had a vote.
    And I think the word ‘Westminster’ came in handy for the Yes campaign.
  15. Media reports in Scotland claimed Deila had been critical of Lennon’s methods while he was in charge of Celtic, particularly the squad’s diet, but the 43-year-old insists the story was a complete falsehood in an attempt to create problems between the pair.
    Lennon said: “I don’t think that was true. That was a bit of muck-racking by some of the press north of the border. I think Ronny just wants to implement his own ways in terms of the diet.
    “I think everyone would know the diet at Celtic was pretty good and Ronny’s just trying to maybe eek out a bit more.
    “I don’t think he was critical of my regime and certainly not critical of the players, I think he just wants to look at putting his own stamp on the club and that’s altogether fine with me.”
  18. I think it’s reasonable to assume Big Jan and Lenny wanted a new challenge which they weren’t getting at Celtic. But as the Stones sang, you can’t always get what you want. Lenny didn’t get the big EPL job he tried for so he’s settled for something lower. Which he’s right to do, because he doesn’t want to fall on the scrapheap.
    I found it odd the way he started branding his Facebook profile last year. It had all the hallmarks of an agent marketing their client.
