Lennon in no mood to compromise with Rangers

522

Neil Lennon was in no mood to pull his punches on the subject or Rangers alleged tax evasion for a period stretching over a decade at his press conference yesterday.  Asked if winning this season’s SPL by less than Rangers 10 point penalty would devalue the achievement he said, “If we do win it and people want to throw that at me, I will have plenty to say about devalued titles over the years”.

Peter Lawwell strongly rebuffed suggestions that Celtic were in a mood to show solidarity with Rangers should they lose their tax tribunal early this week and Celtic marked the card of Rangers’ political schemer, Alex Salmond, who tried to tell the world how Celtic fans felt about the issue.

While Neil Lennon was keen to focus on tomorrow’s important SPL game against Hibernian, he dealt with questions on Rangers without flintching.  Asked about “financial doping” he said, “doping is a sporting term for cheating”

Adding, “In athletics, if you are caught doping you are banned. Alberto Contador got stripped of his Tour de France win in 2010, so there are precedents.

“It’s all hearsay and hot air at the minute. I don’t want to comment on it until all the results and all the findings are out. But if it has had a direct effect on me in my playing days, I will come out and say something at that time. As it is now, it hasn’t been proved.

“They are in administration for a reason and I am sure you guys will get to the bottom of it. It’s not my business, not our club’s business, but it will be my business if it has affected me as a player, or previous managers, and has denied us titles and trophies in the past.”

Conspiracy theorists who have tried to convince the world that Celtic and Rangers have been involved in some mutual preservation pact in recent years will be forced to reflect on the accuracy and consequences of their confounded allegations.  As always, our club will only prosper with unity.  Persistent attempts to rip it apart will only cause further damage.

I think we have all been blown away by the bidding on eBay action for the signed Celtic top in aid of the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. The auction ends today and currently sits at an incredible £5000. That’s three zeros, count them! I am very proud of you and your club.

I don’t think they’ll be able to stop themselves no matter how the game turns out.

It’ll be a cringeworthy ‘Sash Bash’ either way.

Loyalist clubs have mobilised hordes of extra N Ireland Rangers fans to travel to Glasgow for the match today. Should add to the atmosphere.

    Afternoon Bhoys

Just to let you know that Smashing Milk Bottles and myself raised a combined total of £780 plus gift aid by completing our 10 mile walk for Vanessa to the Admiral bar. Not too shabby considering Smashing came up with the idea (his very first good one, remember :-) ), 2 days prior to the proposed walk.

Thanks to those that donated and thanks also to Mrs CRC and Tony R for joining us in our green walk.

Airdrie’s problems worsened when it was revealed that Rangers had arrested the club’s share of the gate receipts for Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie at Dundee United.

Mr Murray said: “I feel very sorry for Airdrie and their supporters but we’re running a business. We have given them repeated warnings and felt they were playing on our good nature.”

Love to se it happen but doesn’t really matter. We will always know, and so will they. And Tommy Burns knows as well, I’m sure.

  9. What is the Stars on

Commenting on the anticipated capacity crowd, manager Ally McCoist said: “It’s fantastic. As pleased as I am, I’m not surprised.

“I make no apologies for being biased – we’ve got the best support and the best fans in the world.

“There are stories coming out about fans abroad buying tickets for people who can’t afford them and sending them back to families and things like that.

“The support, who will always be the most important people at this football club, will show their worth. I’ve got no doubt about that.”

FORMER Celtic hero Paolo di Canio reckons Celtic will have nothing to celebrate if they win the SPL by default.

The Italian was involved in plenty of controversies while playing for the Hoops against their rivals.

However, the Swindon Town manager insists he would be gutted if the worst happened to the Ibrox club.

And he’s sent a surprising message of support to the stricken Ibrox club.

He said: “Obviously I support Celtic because I played for them but it is a shame to see Rangers like they are.

“In Scotland there is only really the Old Firm who challenge for the title and it would be impossible to imagine that an institution like Rangers could go into administration and maybe even finish.

“It would be poor for the history of Scottish football if Rangers disappeared. There is no celebration for Celtic to win the league this way.”

And the former West Ham and Lazio ace is hoping Rangers can get out of trouble.

He said: “It makes me feel sad because I want to see every club full of life and happy and be able to play every season, like Rangers have for 140 years. I hope they survive.

“In Rome supporters celebrate if their rival team goes through a bad situation but I don’t think the real fans ever wish that on rival teams.

“Everyone wants to see the derby matches, the fans want to see the Old Firm and they want to be able to sing songs against the other fans.

“For this reason whenever there is a club who has big historic rivalry with another, like Celtic v Rangers, then I always hope the teams can survive.”

  14. Is Football Focus usually available on ‘catch up’ or iPlayer later. Disappointed to have missed wee Gordon.

he was in the studio for our away game at Inverness on November 19 when we were 12 points behind. He came away with the old ‘it’s only 2 points a month’ we needed to claw back. And we duly did in no time.

    Wee Gordon is the man!

Against my better judgement I’m off to hope that Chelsea beat Birmingham by 3 or more to cover my bets for later on…

    Jobo

  15. I am immensely proud of Celtic in every aspect & of the fundraising for Vanessa. Let us never forget the principled stance we take on everything.

We must rise above the calamitous stramash that RFC are attempting to drag ALL SPL teams into.

    Hail!Hail!

  16. McMoist must think he’s playing Linfield on the 12th

“We’re going to march right through it. We’ll get through this, starting (today) – our players and supporters.”

The colours aren’t looking so fine now, fatso

One of my great disappointments as a Tim is that he ever played in the Hoops. A right wing fascist scumbag.

  21. this is fabulous motivation for the players – they are saying you will win because of the admin. stick that up in the dressing room and go and stuff the hibs – sorry , poor law abiding hibs.
