LENNY ‘DELIGHTED’ FOR GRIFF, PRAISES ‘FANTASTIC’ ODSONNE

NEIL LENNON praised comeback Bhoy Leigh Griffiths and £10million man Odsonne Edouard following the 5-0 demolition of Nomme Kalju last night.

The Hoops are easing towards a place in the third qualifying round of the Champions League and Tuesday’s return in Estonia should be a formality before a meeting with Romania’s Cluj or Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Griffiths scored his first goal in seven months with a trademark free-kick for the team’s third goal while Edouard fired a blank.

But Lennon was quick to back his French ace and claim he had been “fantastic” throughout the 90 minutes.

The Irishman opted for a two-pronged attack as he demanded goals in the Parkhead encounter and Griffiths, Ryan Christie (2), Kristoffer Ajer and Callum McGregor responded magnificently.

Lennon, speaking to the club website, said: “I’m delighted for Leigh. There is an amount of anticipation whenever he stands over a free-kick because we know what’s he’s capable of.

“It was a great finish and, to be fair, the reception he’s got from the players, the supporters, the club, makes me very proud. He can be very proud of that. too, and it’ll do his confidence the world of good.

”Leigh was happy at half-time. We were 3-0 up and in a great place. I wasn’t happy with the first 20 minutes, but it’s been a great night for Leigh. It’s just one step in the right direction for him.

“It’s good to have two goalscorers in the team. Why have one on the bench? You can tweak the formation and, although Odsonne didn’t score, I thought he was fantastic.”
