LENNY DISMISSES FRIMPONG FEARS

NEIL LENNON has dismissed fears fans’ favourite Jeremie Frimpong faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The exciting Dutch teenager was stretchered off in Celtic’s 3-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last night after a particularly ferocious lunging challenge from Alan Power four minutes from the end.

Frimpong writhed in agony and it initially appeared as though the right-back had suffered a serious knee injury and the game was held up for over six minutes as treatment was administered.

Lennon, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: “Hopefully, it looks like it’s just a bit of bruising.

“I don’t think there’s a fracture there at the minute, but we’ll see how it reacts tomorrow.

“It was a heavy challenge. He got caught on the follow-through, so we’ll have to asses him over the next couple of days and, hopefully, he’ll be okay for the weekend.”

The 19-year-old Amsterdam-born star has been a massive hit with the supporters since his deadline-day arrival from Manchester City and has made a huge impact at the eight-in-a-row champions.

Frimpong helped to set up the opener against Killie with a surging run down the right that saw Odsonne Edouard finish it off in fine style for his 18th strike of the season.

And the youngster was also involved in the second when he came in front the wing to link up with Callum McGregor who set up Leigh Griffiths for his second goal in his two comeback games.

Christopher Jullien made certain the Hoops would remain top of the table by two points with a towering header from a Griffiths left-wing cornrr-kick delivery for the third and conclusive goal.
