LENNY STEPS UP DEFENDER BID

CELTIC boss Neil Lennon hasn’t given up hope of landing Paris Saint-Germain defender Mitchel Bakker.

The Dutch left-back, 20, is on the Irishman’s wanted list and, despite reports an initial loan bid has been rejected by the French champions, the Hoops will return with another offer, according to a report in the Sunday Mail.

The former Ajax prospect played in PSG’s 4-0 friendly win over the Parkhead side in July, but is third in his club’s pecking order behind Juan Bernat and Layvin Kurzawa.

Lennon has until October 5 to find another No.3 as competition for Greg Taylor with the Scotland international his only recognised left-sided full-back.

Boli Bolingoli, last summer’s £million buy from Vienna Rapid, has been axed from the squad following his secret trip to high-risk Spain and ignoring self-isolation guidelines when he returned.

Compounding his inexplicable action he trained with his team-mates at Lennoxtown and played the last seven minutes of the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Lennon has already made five signings in recent months in goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, centre-half Shane Duffy, midfielders Mohamed Elyounoussi and David Turnbull and striker Albian Ajeti,.
