Lessons are needed from Barcelona and Paris performances

430

Salzburg are the real deal.  For years, backed by sponsor Red Bull, they have deployed one of the most expensive wage bills outside of Europe’s big five leagues.  They are in the Europa League due to an away goals defeat to Red Star Belgrade (who drew their opening Champions League tie with Napoli), but the Austrians have won their six games since, scoring 21 goals in the process.

That run included a 2-3 win at Leipzig, one of only two defeats the Germans have suffered in 17 competitive games stretching back to April.  They sit seven points clear at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga after a flawless nine wins from nine.

From a technical perspective, this will be a new challenge for Celtic this season.  Our biggest problem, both domestically and at home, has been breaking down packed defences, Salzburg will have no such inhibitions.  They attacked throughout in Leipzig, successfully chasing an 89th minute winner while most European teams on their travels would settle for a point.

I have been critical of how open Celtic were against Barcelona (7-0) and PSG (0-5, 7-1) in recent seasons.  Whatever it is that St Mirren could conjure against Celtic last month, we were unable to find the same fortitude when facing a similar disparity in resources.

Salzburg are not Barcelona or PSG, but they will comfortably despatch any team who are defensively soft.  We might not win, but we should aim to be competitive tomorrow night.

It’s a blog, where people are allowed to post their opinion based upon their interpretation of what is available to them. Everyone does it,and you are entitled to disagree based upon your interpretation of what is available to you.

Watergate, for example, was exposed by two journalists acting upon what they perceived to have happened, rather than THE FACTS as explained by Nixon, his government apparatus, and even the FBI.

Nothing wrong with searching for the truth in the face of ridicule. We have a lot of precedents for cover-ups and denial.

Just to keep myself up to speed with the latest anti Lawwell lunacy.

    (1)Lawwell didn’t want Rodgers..

    (2) because of Rodgers the club has loads of money

    (3) Lawwell wont spend the money and is now working actively to get rid of Rodgers ( who dear reader you may recall is the man who is generating the money that Lawwell wont spend. )

    Ok

Here is a FACT!!!. I spoke to Dermot Desmond at Dublin Masonic lodge last night. He is paying Gerrards salary FACT. He also showed me some very impressive plans to build a supermarket where Celtic Park now stands. These will be submitted to Glasgow City council next year after Celtic go in to liquidation…FACT!!!

Sounds like we’re good to go with Mulumbu in the middle.

It’s a shame big Ajer looks like he’s still injured, I like to see him carry the ball throw the midfield to start attacks. With a couple of defensive minded midfielders I think that option becomes more viable.

I am not posting in the hope you will believe what I say, it’s a blog, a place where people post their thoughts and opinions, believe it or not, I honestly couldn’t give a if you believe what I write.

It’s very interesting to note that Peter Lawwell is the one who is getting all the praise for the club being cash rich when Brendan and his teams exploits on the park are what have put us on a superb financial footing, yet this blog has even tried to cast aspersions in the direction of Brendan blaming him for our problems, this is not just my opinion, many posters took Paul to task over this.

So, all in all, if I undertake to quantify everything I post with it’s only my opinion, will that suffice ?

  7. Why is it these days that when someone posts something on here and doesn’t get the response they want (fawning agreement) , they immediately start talking about “The Clique” and conspiracies against them?

See if you post something – at least expect people to argue against you. We all have opinions. That’s what happens on a blog – any blog where debate is allowed.

You’re not being censored, asked to stop or denied the opportunity to argue back so stop all the fuddish accusations of some dark force denying you democratic rights or whatever bullshit terminology you want to use.

State your opinion – but be prepared that others might read it and think : “What a load of horseshit”. Especially if it’s just that – opinion.

There is decent anecdotal evidence to support the fallout between Brendan and Peter. It’s then extrapolated to the point that Peter wants rid of Brendan. That is conjecture, although it is gleaned from the background evidence.

Whether Peter does want rid of Brendan or not, his/the board’s actions this summer may lead to such a course, as Brendan was clearly displeased with the lack of support. So whether willfully or not, the end result might be the same.

It’s all very bizarre and proves that we are a far cry from the well run club so many claim.

  9. Quiet here today but not unusual.

Maybe everyone is busy proof reading their posts to make sure they’re fact based and are incontrovertibly true in there content before posting, whilst simultaneously making sure there is no mention of Peter Lawwell in a derogatory manner. Because that just won’t do.

Just my opinion, never was one for following others .

  11. One person who appears to be escaping any of the blame for the Semi-Final farce is the former Morton wonder boy from Inverclyde, Iain Blair. It is his remit in the SPFL to draw up the fixture lists for the whole season. He claims that he takes many scenarios into consideration, including,…wait for it…to ensure that fans are not inconvenience at holiday and festive times. Just leaves one wondering how in touch with fans these people are.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be

The standard of referees in Scotland is clearly very low but it’s not helped by the often touted view that in Scotland we like to watch hard tackling football.

The level of football and player that Scotland produces will always be held back by the nonsense that we all like to see a good hard tackle. I am of the opinion that if the rules were applied in a similar manner to most other European counties then our better players would be able to develop and our lesser referees would have less scope for mistakes.

Some might suggest that allowing industrial football hinders teams who are known for their attacking flair and helps those of a more base level.

    Hail Hail

  16. Who negotiated, agreed, and then, implemented the £49 ticket price, when Sevco entered the top league, whilst assuming the same status as Rangers, the club that Celtic’s supporter’s had been regarding as a dead club for the five 5 years that they were in the lower divisions ?

Is the person who agreed the above deceit, the same person who is in control of, the day to day running of Celtic FC ?

The person who agreed, negotiated, and then implemented the above deceit, did so, in the knowledge that, they would get away with it.

And, they have got away with it.

The reason that they got away with it, is because the Celtic supporter’s have a reputation, for being ‘easily’ played.

The prime example of this was, the club’s meek, and weak acceptance of the LNS whitewash.

After the club betrayed the rights of the supporters with the shameful LNS episode, the ‘easily’ played Celtic supporters, queued round the building to vote the cheap, deceitful charlatans, who constitute the PLC board, back into office, when it came to season ticket renewal time !!!

Fast forwarding to the arrival of Brendan.

The PLC board new that there was a storm coming.

Ronny’s Celtic had just been dismissed from the SCSF BY a Sevco / Rangers team, who were in a division below Celtic, and up to 30,000 seats had fallen empty.

The Celtic supporter’s online were in a fury about the ignorance afforded to the Resolution : 12 requisioners, by the PLC board.

And, most toxic of all……Sevco / Rangers were coming back into the top league and, that meant, that Celtic would have to deal with the same club issue.

So, the PLC saw that Brendan was on the managerial scrapheap, so, the plan was hatched.

Bring in Brendan, pay him £45 k a week, get the Celtic supporters to look the other way as, the PLC negotiated, agreed, and then implemented the £49 ticket price’s for, Celtic vs Sevco games, therefore, indicating that the PLC looked upon, Sevco FC as the same club as, Rangers FC. The trick was to introduce the £49 same club tickets, and hope that the Celtic supporters would be blind sided by the Brendan bounce. Sadly it worked.

The very minute that a Celtic supporter would purchase one of the £49 tickets, then Rangers FC had walked away from the biggest swindle in sporting history.

Brendan, if he is a player in the look the other way stratedgy deployed by the PLC, then Brendan is also one of the greatest ever cheats of the Celtic support.

On the other hand, Brendan may well be innocent of any involvement of the PLC’s deceit, and may be a victim of the PLC’s deceit himself, which might expain why he has been cold shouldered by the PLC in the previous two 2 transfer window’s, he might be in the position of being the next Celtic manager to be flung under the PLC bus, despite winning six 6, out of six 6 trophie’s, and putting upwards of £70 milion of CL money on the balance sheet, but, imho, Brendan was brought in by the PLC to get the PLC round the same club issue, and get the Old Firm £49 fixture back onto the fixture list, without any fan rebellion’s taking place inside Celtic Park, which might have led to 000’s of empty seats inside Celtic Park and, ultimately, the empting of the PLC board itself ?

So, the PLC board have swerved the same club issue by deceiving, the ‘easily’ played Celtic support.

The PLC weaponised the Brendan bounce, by deceiving the ‘easily’ played Celtic support.

My guess, and that is all it is, is that the PLC have no further use for Brendan, he has got the PLC round the same club issue by fudging the sale of the £49 ticket to Celtic supporters, with ease.

The PLC will consider the outlay of, £45 k a week for a couple of season’s to get the PLC round the same club issue, as one of the PLC’s greatest, if not ‘thee’ greatest investments of all of their tenure of custodians of, Celtic FC.

    The great mystery for me….

Is Brendan a player in the PLC’s deceit of Celtic supporters ?

Or, has Brendan also been deceived by the PLC’s deceit ?

If you know the history, eh ?

I’m not sure that Brendan would leave because of the actions of corrupt officials. He knew this was the case before he joined and although likely to be a frustration for him I doubt it is a surprise.
