Lessons for Ronny, a shout for Hearts

385

There’s a wee lesson for Ronny Delia in not conceding ground too quickly after the final whistle. On first pass, TV pictures suggested Dedryck Boyata failed to make contact with the ball at Hamilton on Friday, it was only when Ronny saw pictures from the opposite angle, that he realised the player timed his challenge to the inch.

Unfortunately, this was after the manager’s post-match TV appearance, when he accepted the referees decision. No matter if you’ve seen an incident or not, it’s better to be circumspect than to dive in with a definitive comment immediately after a game. Whatever the outcome of Boyata’s appeal, at least referee Craig Thomson can be absolved from blame for making the same mistake as Ronny Deila.

There’s a big midweek card coming up in the Premiership. I’m hoping Hearts find form tonight against Inverness. If they win they are as close to Aberdeen (6 points, with same games played) as the Dons are to Celtic, with a better goal difference too. Aberdeen and Hearts have to play each other twice before the end of the season, my preference would be these games have a very competitive edge.

Speaking of Hearts, I was slightly uncomfortable with their statement regarding the racist abuse dished out to Kilmarnock player, Josh Magennis, “To clarify, this allegation does not involve the player’s colour, religion or sexuality”.  Is there a pecking order of bigotry I’m not aware of which deems anti-Irish abuse a lesser-offence?

A massive Dookit seems the way to go.

Mr Pastry mentioned reconstruction of CP earlier, because of declining crowds.

BSR says it should be a two-tier Dookit.

I said it should also have a plywood terrace bar with free pigeon communication access.

I can see why David Moyes would be interested in being Celtic manager.

It would suit him…..and im sure he could twist the arm of the PLC a bit.

We have a major challenge ahead.

It would make sense to have a strong, experienced manager.

Moyes is no mug, thats for sure.

He has coached at a high level, not entirely successful….but he did run Everton well, no doubt.

imo….he would do well at Celtic.

    But who knows.

I don’t know if Ronny will be replaced at season’s end or not but I do think Moyes would be a very good choice if it did happen. I know he has a mixed record, but even Jose Mourinho wasn’t too successful in his last appointment.

!988/89 a season where we lose 11 games in the league and finish 3rd is better than one where we win the league and only lose 4.

1989/90 a season where we lose 12 games in the league and finish 5th is better than one where we win the league and only lose 4.

    Ect ect ect

Hmm it’s going to take me a while to understand that kind of thinking.

I simply refuse to believe that a team who have scored 70 goals and scored 3 goals or more on 13 occasions is as bad as some of you would have us believe.

There have been disappointments, notably in Europe but we aren’t as bad as the MSM or some of you are making out, it’s just getting ridiculous now with people almost harping back to a time when we regularly got humped and couldn’t even finish 2nd in the league.

The unwarranted abuse of Ronny and his tactics is baffling even though we’ve won games by 8-1, 6-0,5-1,4-2 etc he is given no credit and some are saying they could coach this group of players to those results, utter madness.

It is now on a par with the MSSM saying Lenny “brought it on himself”.

I wouldnt disagree, you make a good case in relation to domestic games.

But…I think the crux of the matter is European Football.

    That income is needed.

Nobody expects us to win the CL league, but i do think we should be able to compete,..that must be the goal.

So…I would expect the board to be asking the same question lots of fans are…Will RD get us to the CL?

I have my doubts….so i can see where Moyes would come in.

Surely the suits cant be happy getting humped in Europe?

Like yourself I am a ST holder and on the home ticket scheme, however I will not be attending either match.

Wednesday night, would mean taking time away from work related tasks and Sunday we will be doing Mothers Day type things.

In the past I might have made more of an effort but this season the quality on the park and in the dug out are abysmal!

I have been watching CFC since the early 1970s and have seen enough good and bad teams and managers to spot poor ones, when I see them.

The manager should have been shown the door after Molde at the very latest.

For the first time in over 20 years as a ST holder I am seriously considering not renewing if RD is going to be in charge.

A good manager looks at what he has and developed a system to suit his players. In time he might gradually change as he gets the players he needs to play a different way.

A good manager constructs a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.

A good manager get players to play above their ability on a regular basis.

A good manager does not ask players to do things they cannot do.

A good manager gets a response from his players when things go wrong on the park.

A good manager turns things around in games with his HT team talks and his substitutions

RD does none of these except ask players to things they can’t!

The guy is slowly but surely reducing us to the level of Aberdeen and Hearts.

His team is so gutless that should we have to play the Zombies, I would have no confidence that we would hand them the hammering we should be able to !

He has collected a squad that is lightweight – both mentally and physically.

    I agree, unlikely…But.

It would suit DM to build a young team for Europe.

    He would thrive on it.

If the suits dont want to see the gravy train stall, i would imagine they are looking at alternatives.

Hold that thought til Sunday morning.

Skybet actually do a service called ‘Request A Bet’ – you can see it in the betting list for any big games, particularly televised ones.

you can tweet/text/mail in your request, they’ll giv eyou odds and also put it on the list for anyone else to back, too.

e.g – Friday night v Hamilton a mate backed a red card and penalty award (any team) at 12/1 in the ‘Request A Bet’ category. Bet up by half-time.

You can see it for Bournemouth/Southampton tonight here, under ‘Specials’: https://www.skybet.com/football/premier-league/event/18982553

I’ll certainly be looking for the red card/pen on Sunday. We’re fair game for the MIbs now.

CroppyBhoy, I couldn’t agree more. The subject that surprises me is how some supporters can believe Ronnie is doing an acceptable job. I get we have a very young team and that can be inconsistent, all the more reason for a good coach. I don’t think anyone can say Celtic have improved over Ronnie’s 2 seasons. I get the defend him against the media onslaught and I get he’s the Celtic manager so we will support him while he is. An argument for his retention I struggle with. I read a post earlier suggesting that he has won a number of games by scoring lot’s of goals, 8, 5 4, interestingly that was very similar to the John Barnes era. This manager reminds me of that time, saw tooth performance, player unrest, dreadful defending, lack of tactical know how.
