Lessons for Ronny, a shout for Hearts

There’s a wee lesson for Ronny Delia in not conceding ground too quickly after the final whistle. On first pass, TV pictures suggested Dedryck Boyata failed to make contact with the ball at Hamilton on Friday, it was only when Ronny saw pictures from the opposite angle, that he realised the player timed his challenge to the inch.

Unfortunately, this was after the manager’s post-match TV appearance, when he accepted the referees decision. No matter if you’ve seen an incident or not, it’s better to be circumspect than to dive in with a definitive comment immediately after a game. Whatever the outcome of Boyata’s appeal, at least referee Craig Thomson can be absolved from blame for making the same mistake as Ronny Deila.

There’s a big midweek card coming up in the Premiership. I’m hoping Hearts find form tonight against Inverness. If they win they are as close to Aberdeen (6 points, with same games played) as the Dons are to Celtic, with a better goal difference too. Aberdeen and Hearts have to play each other twice before the end of the season, my preference would be these games have a very competitive edge.

Speaking of Hearts, I was slightly uncomfortable with their statement regarding the racist abuse dished out to Kilmarnock player, Josh Magennis, “To clarify, this allegation does not involve the player’s colour, religion or sexuality”.  Is there a pecking order of bigotry I’m not aware of which deems anti-Irish abuse a lesser-offence?

    Still going.

So here I am at Celtic Park on match-day.

Those empty seats, what’s that about? Yeah, that’s the rebel republican mighty jungle fenian warriors, making a statement.

Those seats with people sitting on them, what’s that about? Yeah, that’s Celtic supporters. We don’t talk about them.

That’s the way it is. We’re not here to perform in an episode of The Singin’ O’Kettle to satisfy a world-wide feed of who cares what. We’re working men at the game to see Celtic play.

    Celtic forever.

We need a pint there is a mountain to cover on the subject !!!

Anyway for the financial management of our club I agree PL has our best interest at heart – I do not believe he makes a conscious decision to to waste money – he has kept us in a good place for years

But we all know about the the duds that have been bought for hard cash and given a contract Derek from Ajax is a disgrace the list goes on PL has to take responsibility for that process

A Manager – who is worthy of the job title – will put the subject on the table and challenge the process

I THINK (deliberately in caps) because I don’t know, that for all his qualities (and he has a lot) PL does not like to be challenged – I do need envisage a a Board room with with people asking “Why?” ” Who?” “When?” I do not envisage a challenging environment where people justify their thinking

I envisage a Dictatorial environment where PL dictates the process and if you agree you are in the good books if you challenge (Lennon) you are on borrowed time

This (if my thinking is correct) is the reason why we have not improved as a team PL is not a man who has an eye for a player he only has an eye for the price

I do not want rid of PL I acknowledge his brilliance in running a business but I am not convinced he has the ability run a team

As I say we could do this over a few pints and I do not know the answers – but something is not working

    Hail Hail

    Dead right.

No excuse .Not even the grog.

You mention the ageing process and it`s consequences.

I just hope your operation doesn`t get postponed.

I’m not going tomorrow. I’m away on holiday. Now, its not as sime as that as id normally take our fixtures into consideration, before booking. Right now, we are so poor, the game was an afterthought. I’ll be there on Sunday, probably, but I just about know it’s Morton, and dont know kick off.

My boy (15) gave up last season, fed up with the lack of excitement.

I don’t think Neil Lennon was on borrowed time because he challenged Peter Lawell. He chose to walk away from the job for whatever reason. I think he saw hard times around the corner in terms of European qualification and left while his stock was still high. I also don’t doubt that his treatment by the media and certain members of the Scottish public had an influence.

    Not sure about Janko.

Sure, I’d like to see him make the RB slot his own in time, but he’s missed an awful lot of fitba this season.

Maybe bring him on 2nd half for ML.

  12. garygillespieshamstring on

I might be wrong but I think Janko is back running but not in full training yet.

I really rate him as a player but that is also a concern for me. The defensive reshuffles when he had to be subbed in big games were costly for us this year.

I have big concerns about his fitness in August if he has a lot of action in the euros.

  23. GARYGILLESPIE – you say NL had ‘magically’seen European hard times round the corner – I say that our last two attempts at qualification came down to one final game each time – we approached both of those games in a eminently winnable position – it was two bad performances on the night that put us out – just like the Utrech performance under NL.

It is difficult to imagine an easier path to the CL groups than Maribor and then Malmo – the funding and opportunities were there – our football department blew them on the night, each time.

NL left because it suited NL – he had hoped, that like Paul Lambert before him, the Championship would be his passport to the EPL.

We had many bad results under Neil and of course some very good ones – Peter Lawwell took a chance on an inexperienced NL, just as he did with an inexperienced RD – so let’s stop trying to canonize NL and vilifying PL, RD and anyone else whose face doesn’t fit.

  24. Are Hibs that bad, how much motivated do you need to at least have the Cheats of Scottish Football looking over there shoulders, and maybe they might bottle it.but no The Hibs have handed the Thief’s the Championship title, and some on here wanting Stubbs as the man to replace Ronny well I’m sticking with the present manager,
