Lessons learned from Friday experiment

828

After every experimental line-up (such as Friday’s), it’s tempting to ask what the manager learned from the experience.

The partnerships on the left and right wings didn’t look right.  Emilio Izaguirre didn’t overlap as often as usual and Stuart Armstrong was less effective than normal.  A lack of space impacted the James Forrest-Adam Matthews partnership on the right.  Forrest was manhandled until he switched left or got inside the box, when he was able to play unhindered.

Ineffectiveness on the wings led to the same up front.  Anthony Stokes doesn’t get to play centre forward too often and didn’t really get much of a chance on Friday.  Stokes anonymity was the most glaring aspect of the game but I suspect the responsibility lies elsewhere.

I’ve relations that are DU fans and they know exactly what happened, but it’s c’est la vie

I have no difficulty with the new club fans wanting to be called Rangers, same stadium, shirts etc,

As long as they know it’s not factual and based on myth and FANtasy.

spot on we seem to be the only ones not prepared to shrug it off as being in the past. I get fed up pointing out to my english friends that the old team were and the new team are cheats.

  3. bournesouprecipe on

Simulation or to give it it’s proper name cheating is a blight on the game, and it’s a growing trend. From any highlights I’ve watched of the game this weekend there has been cheating, which is condoned by the EPL commentators with the line like “ there is the contact so he’s entitled to go down “ .

The only highlights of football fully analysed in Scotland is the EPL and cheating occurs every week, and it is reaching epidemic proportions. The two incidents which spring to mind same day different games where Wayne Rooney felt a hand on his shoulder, and clearly throw himself pole axed to the ground.

There was no award but no yellow for cheating, sad thing about him is he such a good player. Steven Naismith didn’t bother with waiting for any contact but once he’d made it to the box he did his trick as if both his feet had suddenly been lassoed with an invisible rope, whipping him to the ground.

No award, but no yellow card either for best man falls, although he got one with dive against the more naïve referee v Gibraltar. It’s not as if they’re not aware of it in the greatest league in the world, Januzaj of Man Utd has more bookings for simulation than he has goals this season.

I was reading back this morning and saw you mentioned

Gerry McNee’s book “You’ll never walk alone”, a great

Well unless the Rangers go bust which is unlikely as now they have been taken out of the glare of the markets they must have a better than good chance of joining us next season in the SPL’ Hibernian have no staying power and Motherwell will lie down as for Falkirk and Queen of the South I dont fancy either of them for promotion. The only good thing for Celtic will be the extra revenue from playing them at least 4 times I think they may do better in the SPL than many of us think and unpalatable as it is they may well challenge for a European spot.H.H.

Bourne, i just think if more fans from other clubs could act on what is going on, the sevco lie could shown up for what it is.

Nye, i bought the book by mcnee and his jimmy mcgrory autobiography , a lifetime in paradise, over thirty years ago and enjoyed them both.

Its just a pity mcnee turned into a parody of himself . I believe he is a cousin of charlie gallagher. Charlie took two of the most important corners in our history whicj lead to vital victories in 1965 and 1967 respectively.

Until this year I would have agreed 100% on Motherwell lying down to rangers / sevco over the years

But without McCall As well manager and in fact being in charge of sevco now – in conjunction with the disaster dropping to the second tier would be for motherwell – I think they will be right up for the play offs

How sweet would it be if wee skippy won the play offs

Watched “Goals on Sunday” this morning and they were blaming the ref saying, that it should be like rugby and have him declare his decision to the fans on the pitch.Football is faster than rugby.I could be wrong but, when I watch rugby, players tend not to cheat or try and deceive the officials.Don’t think I can say the same about football.

I think that technology will come to football.

Unfortunately it might still not solve cheating, it’s such a difference to in ‘contact’

  17. Captain Beefheart,

Just in and reading back, indeed you are correct. I should have used the term ” Rangers” should be an irreverence to us, on the earlier post. ( ref below )

    ——————————————————

    My friends in Celtic,

Easter is a time of peace and goodwill, but watching the Sevco game pushes that to the limit.

I know “Rangers” are dead and are an irreverence to us, but I tune in to enjoy their demise and bask in more turmoil.

Hate is a word I am loath to use, especially today and I cannot go along with new fangled concept of “hate the sin, but love the sinner”

I’m truly sorry I feel like that but I can’t change a lifetimes feelings being brought up in the west of Scotland.

I will always be wary of any “Rangers” reincarnation and I envy our supporters that can truthfully ignore them.

Celtic’s silence for example might not be maintained.

The inevitability of having to play against them draws ever closer, and Celtic opinion is naturally heightened given that we are spoon fed unwarranted oldfirmism.

Agree.Technology will come in and it’s to be encouraged. However, the mentality has got to change.I have no problem with what Larson used to do.Wait for a rash tackle to be made, take the hit and the penalty.Michael o Neil’s backing of the young Utd boy when he clearly dived shows it’s endemic in the game.Maybe the answer is for refs to award more decisions even after advantage has been played, possibly stop the diving.Remember Scott Brown going through one on one with the keeper at Ibrox.Brown was clipped which allowed the keeper to close him down before he’d regained his balance. We lost that game 1-0.In my view the ref should have brought the play back and awarded a penalty.

  23. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

The hun will be back next season,I’ve never thought

otherwise despite what I read on here.

They will take the humping’s next season in defiant

mood,2016/17 they will abandon ship just like they

    did in the early 80’s.

  24. I watch a lot of rugby and there is plenty of cheating – just that there’s little (not none) play acting.

The refs refer loads to the TMO – not only tries but bad tackles, foul play, whether a kick is in touch if it’s near the corner flag etc.

Even then the TMO gets it wrong.

Rugby has lots of stoppages anyway so people don’t complain too much but it would slow football down dreadfully. We have seen plenty of football decisions where people aren’t sure even with multiple replays.

For a match like Catania Palermo, I would advise that the TMO is 200 miles away.

Good of you to come back on and apologise. Like others on here I respect your beliefs and your right to hold them. I didn’t like reading about one of the most important things I believe in being belittled on Easter Sunday, the most important day in the Christian calendar.

  26. Bournesouprecipe

    Cheating is ruining the game.

Like you said the justification of there was contact so he is entitled to go down is cringeworthy.

Here in the USA people are getting turned off by the pathetic pussies playing the once beautiful game.Credibility is dwindling fast.

Technology and retrospective punishment will eventually be necessary.

O f course this will not make it’s way to Scotland till a hun result is impacted.

Bob Kelly i believe said television will be to the detriment of football and i believe he is right.

Not only football but all sports are being devalued.

It is my only way to see Celtic but for the odd trip to Scotland but it’s impact has been disastrous for the club.

Once the media gets control the profit driven agenda over rides sporting principles.

Referees perform with an eye on their masters preferences rather than perform the task of applying the rules fairly.

Scotland is an even more blatant example of this form of cheating.
