Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted

574

I see a bit of ‘It was five years ago, get over it’ going around today. Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted for over a decade as a dependency on spending money you don’t have took hold at Ibrox, infected many other clubs, before sending Rangers into administration and liquidation.  And that’s not touching side letters hidden from HMRC, shredded correspondence and hundreds of games undertaken with incorrectly registered players.  It was a very human tale of avarice and a desire to be seen as top dog in the social pecking order.

For 8 years before Administration Day the Cassandras on here who predicted what was to come, were also told to get over themselves, that as club as big and powerful as Rangers would always find someone to bail them out. Some of us were predicting the crash and burn a lot longer than that.

What I don’t read is ‘Get over it, the lessons have been learned’, because it is painfully obvious that at Ibrox, with the same directors in charge as before liquidation, prioritising financial security (for the club, that is) hasn’t happened. Every passing transfer window it’s also plain that we have more than a few adherents to David Murray’s ‘speculate to accumulate’ policy in the comments section.

So until the lesson has been learned (and a long time thereafter), I’ll reserve the right to recall the facts and financial reality, and to celebrate that great day: 14 February 2012, the first Administration Day at Ibrox.  If one day you read Newco statements that say, “We’re going to match expenditure to income, and be happy with who we are”, it could be the last admin there, but don’t hold your breath, this turkey has another turd to drop.

On the one hand I agree with you. It’d be amazing and the club would have earned respect the world over as it closed it’s doors and stated ‘Enough is enough. We refuse to take part in this sham anymore!”

On the other hand I personally would have missed a load of great times, people would have been without work money wouldn’t have been raised for charity etc etc.

Perhaps there’s a bit of yin-yang going on. There’s many a baddie out here that appeases their guilt with charitable work/donations.

I’m wholly ambivalent to this. I don’t know what influenced the decisions that have been taken on this thus far but it’d be interesting to find out.

Here’s a wee hypothetical to end my input on this for the day. Imagine the club had found out in 1964 that the SFA was corrupt beyond measure and decided that was it, they were done and would die with nobility. Would you trade everything that came after?

Fair enough mate, that’s your opinion and you’re free to hold it, excuse me if I resent being called a PL minion if I don’t jump on the big green cape with ye!

Long way to go yet in the game.

I have no idea why we haven’t challenged the cheating yet but perhaps being half a lifetime away from Glasgow has made me less cynical but what I wouldn’t want for Celtic is that we make a statement on every perceived slight on our club like wot ye get oan here!

    Hail Hail Celtic Superman

Agree with an earlier comment, that the blog has been refreshingly without rancour for the past wee while.

  6. When this debate about SFA corruption kicks off & the ” hard men” on here call out Celtic for not calling out the corruption & burying the Hun when the opportunity was there, they are conveniently overlooking one point.

Celtic are just one Club in the Scottish scheme of things, a powerful Club yes but just one vote.

Celtic never had the power to bury the Hun. That action would have required the majority of Scottish Clubs and it was never going to happen.

Yes Celtic could have adopted the present Hun Level 5 tactic of playing to the gallery and issuing Statements etc that would appeal to the Support and give us plenty of chuckles & soundbites. Had they done so it’s likely that Plod would have had a quiet word about “incitement” & even if they didn’t the likelihood is that approach would have had a counter effect with other Clubs more inclined to rally towards the Hun rather than the Celtic approach.

It appears to me that the Celtic Board decided the prudent thing to do was to keep investment low whilst the Hun were missing, pick up a few handy Titles and be in a position to produce a powerful team when the Hun returned to ensure continued domination.

The one huge potential flaw in that approach is that just maybe if they went for earlier investment it may have paid off with a bigger European dividend. However there is absolutely no guarantee that it would have done so.

We now have a powerful team, in my opinion the best Celtic team since Seville however we have no guarantee whatever that we will get through to the Group stages next year.

The lads on here who post as if investment & a European dividend were an odds on bet seem to forget that our Seville hero’s were dumped out of the European Champions Cup qualifiers by a very average team.

I most certainly do not think that our Board are 100% right in what they do and I have many misgivings particularly in relation to fan’s criminalisation but everything is not as black & white as some on here would paint it.

Anyhow rant over & extremely happy & proud of my Club and really enjoying the quality football we are playing.

We are winning and we are playing football The Glasgow Celtic way.

Lets face it. Its always been bent.

That does not mean that its acceptable, and its not, in any way, shape, or form.

Yet, it continues, and thats because there are people who have no qualms about using bigotry and violence as a vehicle for their personal wealth.

So it’s always been bent and you’re therefore happy to accuse all that have been involved with using “bigotry and violence as a vehicle for their personal wealth”.

It’s a strong view but it seems you’re not to be dissuaded.

Football is corrupt globally from top to bottom. Anytime you watch it on any medium you’re taking part in that. There’s still joy to be had from the to and fro of a game and the skill of the players. There’s nothing wrong with simply enjoying the entertainment.

  14. If the truth be known, all I have ever wanted is to play on a level playing field, a game where the referees are honest, open and fair.

I have never wanted preferential treatment like the huns expect, just apply the rules of the game in an honest and equal way.

If this is done everything else will fall into place off the park imo.

Now I have said this before but will say it again cos I believe it needs saying.

The reason our board don’t rock the boat re the cheating is we would have no competition, had the rules been applied fairly and honestly we would win everything, we wouldn’t have any competition, consequently people would walk away and there would be no game to speak of.

I honestly believe that to be the case.

Whatever, happy admin day you knuckledragging cheating scumbags, I hope your next death is ever slower and more humiliating.

    Corky..,

Been reading that excuse ‘we’re only one club’ for too long now, I’ll tell you what the Plc could have done about it. They could have asked the CFCB to investigate the UEFA License that would have dealt with the SFA but before that, as creditors they could have objected to the use of the name, that would have pretty much killed off the pheonix.

I never actually disagreed with your assertion that it’s corrupt. My musings started off with the notion the club maybe considered it was pointless speaking out. Especially since they have no option to take part or die.

I am almost seventy years on this planet and have been an unrepentant Fenian rebel for my entire life, one thing I have learned is when you embark on a certain course of action you do not always get the result you expect.

I absolutely love the passion & indignation that posters like you & The Green Man generate & at times it almost hurts me to preach caution. Most times I just stand on the sidelines & smile & let ye at it.
