Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted

574

I see a bit of ‘It was five years ago, get over it’ going around today. Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted for over a decade as a dependency on spending money you don’t have took hold at Ibrox, infected many other clubs, before sending Rangers into administration and liquidation.  And that’s not touching side letters hidden from HMRC, shredded correspondence and hundreds of games undertaken with incorrectly registered players.  It was a very human tale of avarice and a desire to be seen as top dog in the social pecking order.

For 8 years before Administration Day the Cassandras on here who predicted what was to come, were also told to get over themselves, that as club as big and powerful as Rangers would always find someone to bail them out. Some of us were predicting the crash and burn a lot longer than that.

What I don’t read is ‘Get over it, the lessons have been learned’, because it is painfully obvious that at Ibrox, with the same directors in charge as before liquidation, prioritising financial security (for the club, that is) hasn’t happened. Every passing transfer window it’s also plain that we have more than a few adherents to David Murray’s ‘speculate to accumulate’ policy in the comments section.

So until the lesson has been learned (and a long time thereafter), I’ll reserve the right to recall the facts and financial reality, and to celebrate that great day: 14 February 2012, the first Administration Day at Ibrox.  If one day you read Newco statements that say, “We’re going to match expenditure to income, and be happy with who we are”, it could be the last admin there, but don’t hold your breath, this turkey has another turd to drop.

I know, you know your history.

I ask you to consider, what they are so desperate to uphold in Scotland.

A cursory glance at the year 1701 might provide a few answers:)

  3. Gene absolutely no doubt in my mind, King was desperate needed to cut costs & saw a quick opportunity to save money or at least delay payment of money.

He will have to pay off “Warbs” & Co. just as he had to pay off Barton, or else do the Administration trick to buy more time.

    Corky,

Rather than open pandoras box I think it would have slammed the coffin lid on the Rangers for ever, aye there would have been petulant tantrums from the great unwashed but the fact of the matter is they destroyed themselves and by their own rules that killed them. Their meeja would have looked for scapegoats but they always do. As you say the Plc bottled it and sucummed to intimidation yet they were brave enough to stick their heads above the parapet and lead the assault on vilifying Celtic supporters. That’s what grinds my gears.

That’s something I’d been meaning to check on for a while (the phoenix name).

As far as I can tell from various sources (but primarily this) because none of the directors in the 1st 12 months of the life of TRFC had been directors of RFC there was no breach of laws related to phoenixing, so no challenge would have been possible.

Any one of the many creditors could have done this if it was applicable.

  8. CORKCELT,

I have (only) been 66 years on the planet, but I agree wholeheartedly with your post.

I find it odd to say the least that on this of all days there are those wanting to direct fire at our Board. Enjoy today; too many of us have endured too much not to see this day of all days as karma. Smile. They died.

Enjoy our team; imo, we are playing the best football of many a year. Every player is improving over the season. Sure, our goalkeeper has become a FOOTBALL player. Our manager is a wonder.

Dave King is the modern day J. Edgar Hoover. Its been said, that he likes to be ‘informed’ about people who cross his path, for future reference, if you get my drift.

Id also like to say to anyone who gets this next reference, well done.

There can only be one happy solution, and there are strong indications, that bulldozers will reduce the cesspit to rubble.

    Weeminger,

Checked it myself and found a lot of ambiguity as expected however that pheonix got the same name requires notice to be presented to the creditors at that point the creditors can make their objections known to companies house and the administrator.

I know that Duff & Phelps had granted permission, so I assume the court were also satisfied that creditors had been given an opportunity to object but none had or that for whatever reasons, that step wasn’t actually required.

Makes no odds now, interesting nonetheless.

Oh and we are not discussing what other creditors could have done that’s the same argument as the only one club. The question was what could the Plc have done, I offered a couple of suggestions, that you are now trying to create the same circular argument around. All the other clubs and creditors are irrelevant to the question.

  16. Paul,

    Cards on the table.

Do you believe that ultimately, there can be any outcome other than THEM coming out of allthis smelling of roses.

This being the case, current article should read, ‘Our Game, and possibly wider society is still corrupted’.

In turn this leads to the possibly embarrassing question of exactly who, where, has allowed this corruption to flourish. For example. Today, THE HERALD was playing the ‘Blame it all on Wee Craigie’ game.

However, the media is an easy targets. Not so easy are every club, and I mean every club that has been any way complicit in saving THEIR skin.

  17. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Weeminger,

The step was required, a form requires to be completed and circulated with a minimum notice period, to the creditors before the name can be transferred.

  18. Even a ways before we found out about the EBT’s we knew fine well we were getting cheated and treated differently, Dr John said so, he publicly stated that “Those days were gone” he told of a dossier, then silence, that has bothered me ever since, why the silence, we had scottish football by the balls, reform would have been a dawdle, yet we backed off, why, I keep asking why, who was got at ?

  19. Quonno

Their skin wasn’t saved, they are in liquidation, the survival myth has been propogated by the written and spoken media, doesn’t make it true, where all clubs have failed is that the do not challenge this publically and use their own media to state what liquidation means in a football and business sense, Celtic included.

  20. TET

What the Sons of Struth do not appear to appreciate is that not even Hearts embarked on 10 years of false registrations to gain financial and so sporting advantage.

Then to make matters worse we are told it was just an administrative error that happened to last ten years.

I don’t know what makes me more angry. Their cheating or treating me/us as if our heads button up the back.

Glad McCullogh tweeted today. It showed that the anger is still there and I just hope Celtic realise it will be turned on them if they do nothing to challenge the myth the media SFA and SPFL have been peddling for five years.

They have ALL the ammo to do so. Res12 dumped it on their lap.

I take it that THEIR running out at Ibrox encouraged by the same unspeakables mouthing the same sectarian, racist obscenities is an indication that THEIR skins have not been saved. THEIR skins were well and truly saved when Craig Whyte was allowed to appoint fully compliant administrators.

The Game was bent, and those responsible were on the inside, responsible at Law for upholding the Rules of the Game and protecting it from abuses.

That’s the single biggest issue in all of this, and it has never been addressed. The Game in Scotland simply does not have the moral fibre to examine itself.

While it continues, there will be little prospect of meaningful change.

Celtic should have gotten out of (Tax) Dodge years ago. There was and remains no means by which the club can change a mentality so engrained that it will lie even to itself to justify its own instinct for self harm.

Just how does “calling out the club” for its failure to address the issues around the cheating and ‘same club’ myth make a poster a “hard man”?
