Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted

574

I see a bit of ‘It was five years ago, get over it’ going around today. Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted for over a decade as a dependency on spending money you don’t have took hold at Ibrox, infected many other clubs, before sending Rangers into administration and liquidation.  And that’s not touching side letters hidden from HMRC, shredded correspondence and hundreds of games undertaken with incorrectly registered players.  It was a very human tale of avarice and a desire to be seen as top dog in the social pecking order.

For 8 years before Administration Day the Cassandras on here who predicted what was to come, were also told to get over themselves, that as club as big and powerful as Rangers would always find someone to bail them out. Some of us were predicting the crash and burn a lot longer than that.

What I don’t read is ‘Get over it, the lessons have been learned’, because it is painfully obvious that at Ibrox, with the same directors in charge as before liquidation, prioritising financial security (for the club, that is) hasn’t happened. Every passing transfer window it’s also plain that we have more than a few adherents to David Murray’s ‘speculate to accumulate’ policy in the comments section.

So until the lesson has been learned (and a long time thereafter), I’ll reserve the right to recall the facts and financial reality, and to celebrate that great day: 14 February 2012, the first Administration Day at Ibrox.  If one day you read Newco statements that say, “We’re going to match expenditure to income, and be happy with who we are”, it could be the last admin there, but don’t hold your breath, this turkey has another turd to drop.

I believe rightly or wrongly that the likes of O’Brian and our own Dermo could and would have used their influence and comms contacts to make Irish football more attractive.

Hmmmm as an old pal of ours was want to say.

    Canny see it myself.

The only league that it would make any sense for us to move to would be the much loved EPL.

I always had the dream that we would be a the forefront of an all new all clean resurgent Scottish football:))

    But a backwater we remain…

  4. I agree with the earlier poster who said that Celtic can’t really say anything because the process is still ongoing. Once the big tax case is complete, depending on the outcome, we will see what Celtic do.

My thoughts on LNS are that it was a sham and Celtic should have refused to accept the Report.

As for the discounted options scheme, i don’t know why Celtic stood by and allowed that to be omitted from the scope of LNS.

My gut feeling is that celtic will do little, if anything to call out the cheating and challenge the titles won by RFC during the period concerned. A lot will depend on how much pressure Celtic supporters put on the Club if the big tax case goes against RFC.

  6. An other demented Hun. They really believe this. Or is it the raving of a madman who like his shite team is on his last legs. Loving this. I have wee look into Follow Follow nearly every day now, just for a laugh.

Re: Can we win the league again and if so how ?

Yes we can. I will take pelters for this but for me. We will win the league next season. We don’t have to improve that much. Yes they have had a freak run this season but they have had no pressure on them. If we do what we really should and win almost every game against the rest of the teams in the league then we can win it. Hell, in the games we had against them this season with a bit more luck we could’ve won. Fair enough we had a fair bit of luck for the score to be as little at it was in the last game but with a bit more we could’ve taken something. They are 2nd best to us and we’ll soon put things back in order.

  8. Sky Sports 1 just showed the highlights of the Liverpool Chelsea match from 2014, aka the Steven Gerrard ‘slip’ match. It must have sickened Brendan in the way that the match played out. As a Manager he is no doubt better for the experience and we are reaping the rewards.

If anybody could explain with a straight face how a convicted tax cheat could be considered a fit and proper person, they would be doing well.

Its so corrupt, that its off the scale.

Regan and Dungcaster should have been arrested along with the rest of the criminals….long ago.

They should be in court facing a severe sentence.

I’m not talking about now, I said when the offer was on the table, that was back in the 90s, but even now it would IMO be preferable to the shite we have to put up with in scotland.

I also agree ….. I always had the dream that we would be a the forefront of an all new all clean resurgent Scottish football.

But alas no, they aint enough money in it.

It is interesting to note that in a discussion partly about a ‘new club’ that there are those on here who think that the solution is to set up a new club in Ireland, or somewhere outside of Scotland.

I have said it before Celtic could only ever have been founded in Glasgow, Brother Walfrid read the runes and the stars aligned. Dublin Celtic? That sounds like a new club to me! Then again so does the LA Dodgers.

If their appeal is unsuccessful in the big tax case, then LNS cannot stand, as his “reasoning” that there was no sporting advantage gained was based on his opinion that other clubs could have availed themselves of EBTs too. If their illegal application is confirmed at the appeal, then, quite clearly, other clubs were not free to use them, meaning there was in fact a sporting advantage to Rangers(1872-2012) or, as I would prefer to say, cheating occurred.

Surely it would be unacceptable for Celtic, despite past failures to speak out, to do or say nothing in these circumstances?

  13. The Green Man.

Of course we have all the evidence we need . The wee tax case , all under the watch of “Sir David” and his financial beneficiary , none other than President Campbell .

I think we missed the big time opportunity when PL only expressed surprise .

Then again maybe PL knows the Celtic support very well.

As a support we stood in our thousands at Hampden celebrating a cup presented by the conflicted president . Not a murmur. Compare with the Thatcher presentation in the 80’s.

How many are aware or care , really care about the LNS verdict or Res 12 amongst the general support , which numbers tens of thousands ?

The board ,especially PL know the workings of the SFA , inside out .

Playing the long game , letting the Huns eat themselves alive , might just be the safest outcome . Who knows .

If the Huns ever grow back to a position of strength ( whether newco or nextco ) there will be hell to pay. That’s why Res 12 and upcoming court cases are so important.

My advice , and I mean this respectfully , is enjoy every minute of what is occurring right now on the pitch .

The events off the pitch will dictate as much , as on it. They are drowning in both arenas.

I din’t even know about the offer mate, the 90’s or the wilderness years as I like to call them:))

I’m not even sure it’s just a matter of money, there doesn’t seem to be one iota of interest of a clean game within any one of the 90 or so pro clubs in Scotland.

It’s always been amateur hour at the SFA FFS they even wanted us to believe we were going to Argentina to win the World Cup:))

Back in the days when Scotland still went to tournaments, the whole game has been sold down the river of bowling club mentality and Celtic hatred..

Of course, if HMRC win Celtic should bring the house down so to speak and I sincerely hope we do.

My gut feeling is that Celtic will do everything possible to avoid that.

  17. Timreaper.

The “slip” is over played , important but not defining.

Henderson missing the last 3 games was far more significant .

Not that I lost any sleep , in fact , thank feck both happened or Brendan could have been elsewhere . HH

  18. I like many live for the day that the Team playing out of a Stadium in Govan is no more. They should never been allowed to start their to date short history. The reasons they were are blatantly obvious the game in Scotland has always been corrupt. If the game was not corrupt it would quite simply have been the case of RFC (in liquidation) being finished off ala Third Lanark, Clydebank, Airdrie and Gretna. We all know the reason why they didn’t, the game is corrupt, simple as.

The establishment will never allow them to be gone.

On the day we celebrate the fifth anniversary of them going bust, we still debate who is to blame. The establishment are, the Masons are and sectarianism is to blame. Even when the appeal decision is issued, which I believe will go in favour of HMRC they will never be allowed to go!

You, me and the whole world know they are a new club, created IMHO illegally. If the shoe was on the other foot, you and me would be the same, professing our Club to be the same.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

The Celtic PLC were totally aware of the gargantuan corruption going on at Ibrox.

They knew it for many years.Lawwell was in the SFA for a few years alongside Ogilvie, Regan, Petrie etc after it was public knowledge.

““Whilst there are certain challenges facing the game in Scotland, there is also a great deal to be positive about and much to look forward to.

“We must build on these positives and along with other Board members I look forward to playing my part in working to improve and develop various aspects of the game, for the benefit of Scottish football as a whole”.

In my opinion the whole MO of PL is the bigot buck. Still is. Not interested in Scottish football as a whole. The PLC will never comment on anything that may detract from the bigot buck i.e. the truth (corruption, res 12, etc etc. )

The PC will milk the bigot buck for as long as possible for themselves. Not you.
