Let’s have a change

375

Since Martin O’Neill arrived 15 years ago, the number of games Celtic have played with truly no pressure on is less than 30 (or about the same number we played the season before he arrived).  There’s almost always an angle when Celtic take the field, even after the league is won, whether there’s a cup final to prepare for, or a close rival to take on (as last week), or a trophy to collect (as next week).

But not tonight.  Tonight Celtic can take the field with a broader agenda than simply winning the game, we can experiment.  Hopefully we’ll not see players the manager doesn’t want, and there’s little point filling the team full of mainstays of the side.  Tonight is a chance of Darnell to continue his rehab, for Lukasz to give Gordon the night off, for (deep breath) Stefan Scepovic to lead the line!

Big Jason has had a fantastic season, but unless there’s enormous changes in Manchester, he’ll wave goodbye next week, so give Eoghan O’Connell a start.  It’s also an occasion when Ronny might want a look at Tom Rogic.  In fact, I want a look at Tom Rogic.

A change at goalkeeper, right back, central defence, centre mid and striker would give all areas of the team a fresh feel.  Let’s have it.

Catching up prior to leaving for Perth.

I understand Paul’s suggestion we play second stringers, but to be honest I’m not in the business of giving St Johnstone or anyone else a leg up in the morale stakes.

We should go out to win, as I for one will not enjoy the incessant reporting should we lose, whether there is anything at stake or not.

Regarding Rogic and Scepovic,if they were invisible at Cappielow in a Development game

and have never impressed in any proper game I have seen,my opinion of them is that they are a resource we can do without and sooner the better.

Nice tribute to BB King on Italian radio – Dj played his favourite BB King 45 – Mean Ole Frisco .That done – ” BB King’s mother was a first cousin of the great Bukka White – this is his Parchman Farm Blues..”

Real good – way down south..

  3. Remember all the people saying it was nailed on that Newco would be voted into the SPL?

I think some folk just like to complain.

Don’t spit the dummy out, stand your ground and say your piece.

I was hoping to share a beer with you today, I’ve been in here since twelve, reckon I’ll be watching the game with a hand over one eye to focus:)

  5. There is zero chance of League reconstruction in time for next season. Anyone suggesting it, is mischief making. If the Huns don’t come through the qualifiers they stay where they are.

Agree, don’t think its fair on the away support to play a much weakened side, and don’t think RD will make wholesale changes. It’s difficult enough fixture on a poor surface.

In my youth, many, many years ago, we had a Union Convenor who when faced with a tricky one, would, head down, feet shuffling, pronounce Ah. Well. But You See.

Not too difficult to visualise PL doing something similar should THEY fail to make it through play offs.

with all due respects to those who have purchased tickets for tonight (and I know tickets are not cheap and money is tight for most of us, so I dont take this position lightly), but ….

the season is over …. time to blood the youngsters… plus, with the qualifiers not far away, so our top players will need a break …. and then there is the issue of what happens if CG or NB or such gets injured playing in a meaningless game tonight ….

    time to free the scepcovic 1 …. the Fasan 1 …or …

  17. skyisalandfill on

Any word if Bhoyata (see what I did there) is coming on loan or as a purchase?

Yup. And we got in for nothing.

Those were the days when the SV de P boxes would be passed round the main stand.

  20. quonno,

Was only in the old stand once or twice.Never knew they passed around SVdP boxes, even when we were being treated to the wee team playing the big team.

  21. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I would imagine if we get Dedryck Boyata we will get him on loan and that would make getting another seasons loan of Denyair would be very unlikely would you Bhoys agree ? H.H.

On the subject of league reconstruction … from yesterday …

Doncaster, though, denied that a new 16 team top flight could be rushed through in time for next season as a safety net should Rangers fail to win promotion to the Premiership through the play-offs.

He said: “You would need unanimity from all 42 clubs if you were looking for change in time for next season. Realistically I don’t see that unanimity happening in time for next season. After next season we go back to the old voting rules and you might see more of a debate and more meaningful change.”
