Levein: textbook symptoms of stress in the workplace, bank borrowing

276

I’ve stayed away from the nonsense Craig Levein has spouted about Scott Brown this Hearts 3-1 defeat at Celtic Park. Yes, Hearts disciplinary record is vastly worse than Celtic’s, and Levein’s on-pitch assaults are memorable decades after the event, but we all know Craig isn’t the sharpest tool in the box, so why worry, I thought.

Now the Hearts manager suggests Scott Brown deliberately got himself booked, while Celtic were a goal down to Kilmarnock, in order to incur a suspension before we face Newco: “I think if you look and see if Scott didn’t get booked against Kilmarnock last week and he got booked against St Johnstone then he would have missed the Rangers game. I’ll leave you to deduce what that means.”

Craig, I’m loathed to pop-psych a diagnosis on you, but you are sounding like a man with a tenuous grip on reality. Say what you like about a tackle, we are all entitled to an alternative view, but seeing conspiracies behind such mundane events suggests he is not coping with the stress of football management.

Stress is a killer.  If you suffer, seek help before things get to this stage.

Bank borrowing

The last football club in the country without bank borrowing has managed to secure an “overdraft”.  Details are sparse (it is Newco, after all), but we know the facility of around £3m is secured on at least Albion car park and Edmiston House.  I expect whatever they put in place now will be enough to see them through to season ticket renewal time, alleviating any immediate cash crisis.

There are many more assets available for security, specifically the stadium and IP (if they are so far unencumbered).  This show could run for a while, but you know the final act.

“Great news!  We no longer need to look after as many deeds as we did yesterday.”  I’d call that a favourable settlement, wouldn’t you?

Walk on Fire, with the Celtic Foundation

It’s not often you get the chance to walk on hot coals but that’s the experience you can have with the Celtic Foundation on 23rd of this month.  I know I bang on about the Foundation and the great work they do, but you should not underestimate the sheer human experience of getting involved with these projects.

People have sky-dived, climbed mountains, zip-wired from the top of stands and this month will walk on hot coals!!  When you look back on your year/your life, you will recount these occasions.

  1. Levein. Strange.

One minute he is furious, telling everyone that Scott Brown done his wee player in on purpose – presumably he challenge merited a booking in his eyes, at least.

Next minute he is complaining because Scott Brown got booked in the next game. (Under the influence from Levein’s previous comments perhaps)

I don’t think he knows whether he is Arthur or Martha.

Another SFA exit… Chief operating officer Andrew McKinlay is new chief executive of Scottish Golf.

    =====================

First we had Regan and now the chap who told Celtic in March 2016 (on external advice) that after looking at information presented and questions asked byRes12 lawyer there was no need for the SFA to investigate the processing of the UEFA Licence in 2011.

Probably unconnected or is Hampden sinking?

  3. AULDHEID- thems should have not been allowed to bring any players in last month, due to living hand to mouth on loans every month.

  4. Scottish Golf is one hell of a mess , recently following widespread opposition from ordinary club members about SG’s intention to double the levy on members for which members and clubs receive little or nothing in return they decided to shelve this plan, however the CE left to go to a position in Tennis, now we have a former SFA man running Golf,I do not imagine this will be well received,he will though get a 6 figure salary. I was in and out the blog the other day and I thought the Smith thing was a wind up, to see that it’s actually true shows that it’s not just a mindset, it’s a plan and that plan is none other than stop the ten and put Timmy in his place with no other regard for anyone or anything else in football.

    ” Hello , John Paul,

I did not expect to be in touch again so soon. Even less did I expect Mr Levein to be making yet another derogatory comment about our Captain. Whatever Celtic said or did last time, it clearly was not enough.

Our team often shows fighting qualities on the field of play. It would be appreciated if our plc would do likewise in the Public Arena.”

  12. What Levein really meant…

Scott Brown blatantly denied one of our most professionalist referees the chance to yellow card him against St Johnston.

  13. ” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has accused Craig Levein of being obsessed with his captain Scott Brown.

Hearts boss Levein suggested Brown got booked in the loss to Kilmarnock in order to serve a ban before next month’s Old Firm derby.

Levein has also voiced concern over Brown’s combative style following an injury sustained by Harry Cochrane.

Rodgers responded: “He’s a wee bit obsessed with Broony, isn’t he? I think it’s a huge compliment for Broony…”

Brown blamed his caution in last weekend’s defeat at Rugby Park on Levein’s comments about players needing more protection from the midfielder.

    Levein hints Brown booking deliberate

“If Scott didn’t get booked against Kilmarnock and got booked against St Johnstone [on 18 February] then he’d miss the Rangers game,” Levein said.

“I’ll leave that to you to deduce.”

Levein also expressed concerns about the Celtic captain after Cochrane suffering a bruised collarbone following a challenge from Brown during Celtic’s 3-1 win in January.

Responding to his Hearts counterpart, Rodgers said: “I think it’s a huge compliment for Broony that Craig keeps talking about him – especially as we don’t play them for a little while.

“Broony is a very competitive player… there’s nothing really to answer on that.”

Big Browns fan myself – was told that Canadian TV used to show the Browns games every week ( as they would blackout the Bills if they hadn’t sold out) ensuring a big support in Southern Ontario.

I have family there and had a season ticket back in the 80’s. Bernie Kosar was their last decent QB. FFS their last one is talking to the Ti-cats.

Frankly, that sounds like a Ponzi scheme. I’m surprised I haven’t read anything about this in the papers, because it really is a disgraceful way for any business, much less a charity,to behave.

My advice, such as it is,would be to contact the Charity Commission.

Just last week we were asked to believe that Sevco knocks dback 8 mil from China, this was sold as they didn’t need the money by the press and this week they’re getting loan from Close Brothers.

The loan would appear to say that the soft loans that kept them going before has come to an end as it had too, Park hasn’t got endless wedge.

Money is gone then . Not only did he stump up the 10% himself (over £300) but he asked for his xmas pressies to be donated to the expedition. Really gutted for him as he’s turning into a very good man – someone i’m proud to know never mind the small part I had …..

I’ll check with the charity commission and citizens advice .

I agree re the nature of the scheme . Basically that money is being spent / used on current projects so they need to keep getting people involved . Rips the p%^ out of the charity aspect somewhat .

There is a wee head of steam building up – directed from who knows where – to smear Broonie.

One of the clickbait links below the “,,,Rangers firm told to hand over documents in £2.8 million legal battle with club’s liquidators in the evening Times…” article referred to earlier has the following headline:

“The Celtic skipper, the drug dealer gunman, and the gang of nine”.

Designed to make you think – what’s he been up to now??!!??

Story however goes on to explain the most tenuous of links as follows:

“… A VIOLENT gunman and drug dealer, one of a gang of nine men convicted last week, was previously charged with assaulting Celtic skipper Scott Brown and also with shooting one of his friends.

Mark Richardson, a member of the notorious Daniels Glasgow crime gang, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of having a Glock handgun.

He had been charged with shooting rival Lyons gang enforcer Ross Monaghan and Robert Kelbie, Brown’s friend and an adviser when he was transferred from Hibs to Celtic for £4.4 million in 2007….”

    Desperate stuff.

  22. P67 is correct to suggest Levein can seek help if he is suffering from stress.

However, not sure what he can do about being a total wanker.

  23. I’m a huge fan of the Olympics’, bother summer and winter even though I grew up in rainy Balloch lol, loved the sledging or bobsleigh/luge as they call it, sliding doon the hill in front of Balloch Castle it was sledging.

Several years ago as part of my job I was requested to facilitate the Canadian Ice Hockey squad for its trip to Turin, this was side full of National Hockey League (NHL) players, didnae do them much good as they came home with their tail between their legs having been eliminated in the quarterfinals and failed to win a medal.

The rules have changed now and no NHL players are allowed to participate, not by the Olympic committee themselves but the self serving NHL board of governors that don’t want their players involved in a “Mickey Mouse” tournament.

As a result the squad this year is made up of junior players i.e. youngsters trying to make the grade in the big leagues or veterans whose career is winding down, wee bit like our junior fitba used to be like.

The team captain is Chris Kelly whose da came fae Castlehill and who I last spoke with in the Wexford Club aka Toronto East CSC over 30 year ago.

Chris’s paternal grampa was on our books during WWII and made a couple of appearances for us.
