There should be a slight embarrassment of riches around Celtic today as one of our loan players, Lewis Morgan, picked up his Championship Player of the Year award. The 21-year-old left-mid player signed for Celtic in January but remained a St Mirren player, on loan, until the end of the season.
Lewis is two years younger than Jack Hendry, who signed from Dundee this year, but will share a development play with the central defender, and with goalkeeper Scott Bain (26).
With left-footed-inverted-right-wing Patrick Roberts returning to Manchester City this week and one of our other left-footed wide players, Jonny Hayes, out injured since August, there is a clear opening in the squad for Lewis.
The Champions League qualifiers are (hopefully) a marathon eight games in eight weeks, a period that coincides with the start of the Premiership kick off. During this time the squad will need to reach peak fitness, but remain rested, two conflicting objectives.
Lewis should experience his first competitive action as a Celtic player during this period. There will be around 12 games in those eight weeks, a lot of tired limbs and a corresponding injury profile. For you and me, that’s a worry, but Lewis will know it is his chance to shine.

A CEILER GONOF RUST.
By the way I’ll be in the Blane Valley before going to Celtic Park.
We had two players wearing the no. 7 shirt on the pitch at the same time on Sunday.
Neither have signed for next season unfortunately. So who gets that magnificent number?
p.s. Did anyone else have difficulty making out the players number on the new strip? Or was just me with my ageing eyesight from my vantage point in the Upper North Stand?
Blooming season’s over. Can’t wait for next skelp.
SANDMAN on 22ND MAY 2018 4:54 PM
Flouncers – Really? After that special season? Been busy and missed the drama.
One should adopt the Sandman perspective when it comes to CQN – From the very beginning I just assumed everyone was a total roaster and have spent the interceding years being pleasantly surprised…
And occasionally vindicated…

Only occasionally??
The roasters speak very highly of you…

The Champions League is unforgiving for the best of them, and can be totally brutal for the likes of Celtic if the draw is unkind.
I look to the Europa League to find our benchmarks, clubs with a similar financial profile to us, many of which playing in peripheral leagues.
Here’s Basel’s coefficient for each of the past 5 years:
19.00 15.00 12.00 6.00 19.00
Here’s Porto’s
16.00 25.00 11.00 17.00 17.00
Here’s Olympiakos
18.00 11.00 10.00 10.00 5.00
Here’s Celtic’s
6.00 7.00 3.00 7.00 8.00
Almost all of our points come from the qualifying ties, which actually gives us an advantage in terms of points accumulation over those who qualify automatically. But we just don’t get the performances to match the likes of the teams above when it comes to the group matches and beyond.
That 5 years spans three managers. Perhaps with Brendan and the players having been round the block twice already, we might expect some improvement next time round.
Martin Bain hunted by Sunderland…
I’d like to thank Paul67; I contacted him regarding a moderated post that I felt had been unfairly removed and he has restored it. https://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/mcgregor-no-better-finisher-in-scottish-football/comment-page-5/#comment-3238954
As he pointed out, the moderators job is a difficult one but they do admit when they get it wrong. Unlike the SPFL of ftSFA I suppose.

Starry at least I didnae have to deposit “a bag of sand” to appeal!

The one player , besides Stuart Armstrong, I hope we keep is Nir Bitton. Best passer of the ball of all our defenders. Reads the game very well too.
Sadly Nir Bitton has had to put out a message to (alleged) Celtic fans abusing him because of his nationality: https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/teams/celtic/nir-bitton-hits-out-at-fans-who-abuse-him-for-being-israeli-1-4743320
Not nice.

I’m pleased that Paul has rescinded Brother Maddens decision. :-)

ETims on Twitter suggesting deal is on (hot, hotter, red hot) for Ed.
I’d keep Bitton, but I would expect to see him playing more at the back than in midfield.
His ability to play longer (but still accurate) passes is what we need when we are being pressed high.
Etims told us John McGinn had signed months ago….
Need to show some ambition by signing Eddie, no new loan deal.
Oldtim, will try to get into the BV to see you on Friday seeing as you’re going to be looking so dapper??
Only problem with playing bitton in defence is his often-suspect defensive positional awareness and limited ability in the tackle.
Apart from these two fundamental considerations….?????
?

Very unhappy to read the report in the Scotsman concerning Nir Bitton. In a football context it should be Celtic first, everything else second. I like Nir as a player, I’ve said it many times, and he seems like a decent bloke. It’s nothing short of pathetic to impute what’s happening in Israel/Palestine to him.
Oldtim67 what time you arriving at the BV? Be delighted to join you. H H Hebcelt
I like Bitton

On a serious note, Big Judith not looking her best the night. Some weird three tone blue camo dress and dodgy shoes.

Currently listening to “Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby”. It’s a while since I put it on but what a fantastic album it is! Some brilliant original tracks but also a terrific cover of Smokey Robinson’s “Who’s Loving You”.
The vinyl is a bit worn and clicks (played at many ’80s parties) so I may need to invest in a new copy.

Fieldofdrams Big Judith looking her best is, IMHO, a very low bar so it must be visually upsetting tonight!

Cup final match anecdotes
One was the appearance of the Lanarkkshire Union Jacks midway through the second half and the
‘you’re in the wrong f…..g country’ renditioning of the song.
fares without bus huns sprang to mind, maybe the Palestinan protest or the realisation you were just outclassed prompted it

Why doesn’t our Club ,make a huge donation,on redeveloping the Main Stand, along with the Supporters, giving donations, after all we give a lot to Charities, but sometimes charity begins at home ,just my opinion mind.

I think, following what seems like a 7 year apprenticeship, wee James Forrest should finally be honoured with the legendary number 7 shirt.
A CEILER GONOF RUST.
I’m not getting in early,I’ll hopefully be in around 4.30 pm,I’ll have to see what Neil (skyisalandfill) has to say about the time to get into the BV, Last time we spoke I said that he could stay at my place rather than booking a hotel for ‘the night, but I can’t get in touch with him at this moment in time, but I hope it’s 4.30 pm,I won’t be getting blootered in the BV ,I’ll have to a bit sober when I reach the Kerrydale Suite, but If Neil agrees it will be 4-30 pm ish.
HEBCELT.
I hope to see you in the BV,save me from getting searched by the Barstewards, I’ll bring that Present for you.
Press. When you were growing up Andy, were you Liverpool or were you Real Madrid? What type of football would have appealed to you?
Andy Robertson. It was Celtic. I was Celtic through and through.

I was wondering if you are going to the BV before the Celtic Park doo, I know that your going with a ticket from Mick and he is coming into the BV when he arrives in Glasgow, so there could be a gathering in the BV before hand
