Life truisms and leaving extra in the Hampden lockers

There are truisms in life.  The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, night follows day and Hibernian Football Club will not win the Scottish Cup.  However, a failure to lift the trophy since Orville said to Wilbur, ‘I bet this thing gets off the ground’, does not guarantee subsequent failures.  Hibs have already beaten Celtic this season and are perfectly capable of doing so again on Sunday.

Before this season Kilmarnock hadn’t won at Celtic Park since 1955, but it happened.  St Johnstone, Motherwell, St Mirren, Inverness and Ross County beat us too.  All these defeats were against the odds; no more so than Hibs are on Sunday.

Celtic need to get in touch with how they felt after their League Cup semi-final defeat to St Mirren, a day of so much regret.  The 90 minutes will pass quickly, there’s no point leaving something in your locker for next week. Let’s get off to a flier.

Many thanks for sending over your Seville photographs, we are planning to pull photos and your comments on the event together into a special publication.  If you have any more please send them in, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his book at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, 25th May.  Bet he knows what he was doing that very afternoon 46 years earlier.  Get along to see him or order your own signed copy below. This is going to be a great weekend.

  2. Neil Lennon given suspended 1 match ban for breaching terms of previous ban. Will be in dugout for Scottish Cup final – Twitter

  3. Hibs last Scottish Cup win came in 1902 when they beat Celtic 1-0 at Celtic Park. That was the first time Celtic and Hibs met in a Scottish Cup final.

Since then, we have played 4 finals with an aggregate score of 14-2 to Celtic.

Most recent was the 3-0 win in 2001 which sealed us the Treble.

Amazingly,I find myself in agreement with Awe Naw.

’65 is the key to your viewpoint.

    Then it mattered .Hugely.

Now it is simply a way of paying respect to Scottish footballing institutions.

    Could we?Should we?

    No significant relevance for Celtic.

Kudos in the land of the bigots.

    Who cares?

    We`re bigger .We`re better.We matter.

Until the penny drops,THEY are still the peepel.

Treat THEIR institutions with the contempt they deserve.

    Ahhh…. The SFA… from twitter

MarkWotte has since deleted his @kcommons15 tweet. No sign of an apology but the day is young. Mark?

What did the tweet say ?

Well I ain’t got tickets for me or the Bhoy for Sunday !

Unsuccessful in the ballot and no joy from family, friends and associates.

If anyone knows of a couple of tickets going, either in the Celtic areas or the Main stand, irrespective if it’s for the Celtic or Hibernian section, please consider letting me know.

I’ll be over at Hampden on Sunday in the hope that some become available at the last minute.

Hopefully we’ll play to our full capacity and the Scottish cup can be paraded at Celtic park on Sunday on it’s journey home to rest in Paradise .

I’d encourage all supporters, especially those returning from the game, to consider making the detour to celebrate with the players and staff. It’s always worthwhile.

An excellent way to ‘show respect to Scottish football institutions’ is to annoy them intensely by winning their trophies.

The Hibs 0 The Celtic 5.

  8. Wouldn’t it be great to see Efe do one of his trademark celebrations on Sunday, ideally after our seventh goal of the afternoon.

  9. Proudbhoy

He questions the ambition of Chris Commons, surely the sfa director would be aware of the recent problems the bhiy and his family has endured.

    Another sfa clown

    Mr.Wotte’s tweet!

Retiring at 29 after only 10 caps honestly puzzles me! Meaning, where does pride, desire and ambitions come in this picture?

    He got pelters….

Stop Press……Lenny can do his job at the Cup Final.

    Gratitude overflowing.

    Forelocks tugged.

Bowing and scraping duties well and truly performed.

    Croppy boys down.

    Stick it…..S.P.L.,S.F.A.,et al.

    Hail Hail.

    Question for the CQN cyclists.

I agree with MWD – Shimano SPD pedals and cleated shoes.

Practice keeping right foot locked in at all times. With left in and out when stopping. Eventually, you will have both locked in most of the time.

If you are going to coup over, try not to do it in Shawlands, as the local High School kids are still talking about the time MWD went on his erse…teachers still struggle to get classes to settle :-)

Constantly fighting the ruling body won’t work. The fruits are more likely to (continue) be recrimination, entrenchment and hostility.

  14. Fantasma de Lisboa on

The Club are running a competition on the homepage to win a couple of tickets for the Cup Final.

What I want to know is…..when I win them, is there some way I could donate them to Kano Foundation, or failing that, if someone is prepared to buy a seat for KF for next season in exchange for the tickets ?

    Would that be ‘do-able’

Can’t make the final because the No. 7 bus from Abu Dhabi wouldn’t get me there in time…

I’ll come back on tomorrow to finalise details after I get the e-mail from the website….. :-)

  15. Think we will win on sunday . My main concern is if the match is even and heading for extra time , Broonies fitness will be a worry and Gollum will definitely book Vic. We could get stretched in midfield . A couple of early goals and we should be ok

  16. borgo67 – If Collum books Vic while he is sitting in the stand suspended something is definitely awry

  17. Paul67

Like the Orville and Wilbur comment re: Hibs last Scottish Cup Trophy.

On a topical note – did you know the London Road School wasn’t an issue back then?

Think it was on the drawing board or just going through the Planning Department!

  18. Willie Wallace Heart of a Lion has arrived! The lorry driver had a sour face and a big blue nose so he abandoned the pallets in the street and simply walked away. He might not be the last one of them to do that!

As Paul said, Willie will be signing books in Waterstones Sauchiehall Street on Saturday 25th May from 2 until 4pm. I’m trying to get Brogan Rogan and Paul along and then head for some beers – you are all invited!
