Life truisms and leaving extra in the Hampden lockers

1052

There are truisms in life.  The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, night follows day and Hibernian Football Club will not win the Scottish Cup.  However, a failure to lift the trophy since Orville said to Wilbur, ‘I bet this thing gets off the ground’, does not guarantee subsequent failures.  Hibs have already beaten Celtic this season and are perfectly capable of doing so again on Sunday.

Before this season Kilmarnock hadn’t won at Celtic Park since 1955, but it happened.  St Johnstone, Motherwell, St Mirren, Inverness and Ross County beat us too.  All these defeats were against the odds; no more so than Hibs are on Sunday.

Celtic need to get in touch with how they felt after their League Cup semi-final defeat to St Mirren, a day of so much regret.  The 90 minutes will pass quickly, there’s no point leaving something in your locker for next week. Let’s get off to a flier.

Many thanks for sending over your Seville photographs, we are planning to pull photos and your comments on the event together into a special publication.  If you have any more please send them in, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his book at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, 25th May.  Bet he knows what he was doing that very afternoon 46 years earlier.  Get along to see him or order your own signed copy below. This is going to be a great weekend.

No not ignore or accept, the tactics we employ need to be changed.

Macjay how do you react when challenged by aggression ? Contrast that with how you’d react to persuasion and diplomacy.

Now I’m not being naive and think our enemies in the SFA will change. But I believe change will come as more reasonable, malleable individuals become involved. For example, the refereeing fraternity make-up has changed to be more representative of the community.

I honestly believe that our usual reaction does us no favours and may even provide the old guard with new recruits.

Change from within and persuasion or aggression. Which is likely to succeed ?

A new football innovation were nothing would stick

Teflon team was now Scottish football’s gimmick

Throw what you like, the man cried from the stall

No matter the accusation, come watch it fall

Try as they might the fans suspected a trick

Despite all the evidence, the thing was non-stick

Corruption, evasion, a downright refusal to pay

The Teflon team just don’t need to walk away

Flaws started appearing in the new-fangled device

Things would stick if you could pay the right price

Trophies and medals, history without glue

All stuck although toxic, it was their due.

  24. Seeing that we are obliged to honour the SFA by appearing in their Cup Final on Sunday and seeing that a large number of our support feel obliged to attend, my wish is for Celtic to walk on to the pitch and take complete control of the large green rectangle for the duration of the contest.

My personal preference would be for us not to be anywhere near Hampden, until it has been fumigated: but that’s just me.
