Limited time to build fitness for new recruits

Celtic have only one game before they meet Benfica in the Champions League, away to St Johnstone on Saturday.  The Perth team are bottom of the SPL without a win so far this season, so will not present a significant challenge, but Celtic could do with a sterner test.

Lassad Noiuoiu, Efe Ambrose and Miku Fedor each need to be stretched before they will be ready for Champions League football.  Even if they get a full 90 minutes on Saturday, so I can’t see either starting against Benfica a week on Wednesday, unless they possess uncommon natural fitness, or our injury crisis steps up a level.

I am probably being far too strong on the rhetoric.

Theres an even bigger crash coming than 2008 and the Debtors will have no guarantees, and that is a real shame for those companies and people.

My only point is, I’d rather we were debt free before anything else.

Celtic can’t afford another crash but we are a lot better placed than just about every other club in Europe.

There’s going to be big casualties. And Big opportunities.

I would love to get gamepass, but I work every other w’end and need to tape the games on Sky. As soon as the season is finished, Sky is binned.

The only chance I get to see the Patriots is if they are on that week or I just watch the highlights.

At ht in the Bears game now.

“I am a Celtic supporter but also Scottish. Don’t pretend to be Irish. If Scotland can qualify for world cup then Walter smith should be manager and McLeish deputy. Best people available. I’m sickened sometimes .by the low mentality on here. If these guys are in charge i believe Scotland will qualify. We are a Scottish club.”

Apart from the fact that both tax-dodging individuals previously walked out on Scotland, neither of them got close to qualifying for any tournaments while they were in charge – at least the much-maligned Berti Vogts took his squad to a play-off.

Besides that, would either Smith or McLeish be up to the task, given the injuries they have sustained in the stampede to employ them.

  6. Re Watty Smith

I had a chat with a hun at work the other day and he was waxing lyrical about the Myth.

He loved him because of their 9 iar, but I said to him that I would always remember him as a loser because he was the man who blew 10 iar! And boy did that hit a nerve!!

When you think back to that season, when we were beaten in the first Glasgow derby game at the Asbestosdome, and you had Dick Gough scoring the winner then running down the length of the Govan stand with his hands in the air giving it the ’10’ sign. Things did not look good for us and it was as good as in the bag for them. But the arrogant Smith did not strengthen his team when some of his stars were fading. He thought he had enough to do the job.

    The rest is history.

Watty Smith, in my eyes, will always be known as a loser. Jock never had a target to aim for, but Smith did and he failed to reach it.

They can celebrate their 9 iar all they want, we all know that’s not what they wanted.

Then there is is European record. Or lack of thereof!

    Interesting.

Cant verify this because I’m 1200 miles away, but my friend says that when he entered the store shortly after 9 he made his way to the sports section – there were no copies on display.

The assistant procured a copy for him from under the counter.

Over on Phil’s blog a poster there recounts the same problem he had in Waterstone’s in Glasgow – the book was not on display and one had to be procured for him from the storeroom.

Maybe the company in question have had a rethink, I dont know. I have also heard stories that their Head Office have received death threats!

Football, and in the main, the big clubs, will be sheilded from the so called recession.

They will not take away the football, football is the opium of the masses, you only have to look at the real 3rd and 4th world countries to see that the only thing that thrives is football, while the populus are destitute.

Before Sky got their current deal, they had seriously stiff competition for Al Jazera, who have an untapped market that Sky will struggle to break into.

Football is here to stay, and whatever form it takes, Celtic are well placed to be part of whatever transpires.

It’s like a run on the banks. When people realise the banks have nothing they wouldn’t go there, as it is pointless. Most people think that the Banks hold your money, unfortunately.

  22. Agree with TJ re Jackie and Simon Donnelly. I thought they played well together during season 1997 through the European Campaign ( We should have beat Liverpool). Also their impact on winning the league in 98 stopping oldco winning 10 is not to be forgotten, I’m sure wee Donnelly scored a few crucial goals for us that season. Can remember his winner against Killie away in the run in – vaguely.

Safe to say I think the two played their part in an important part of our history.
