Limited time to build fitness for new recruits

Celtic have only one game before they meet Benfica in the Champions League, away to St Johnstone on Saturday.  The Perth team are bottom of the SPL without a win so far this season, so will not present a significant challenge, but Celtic could do with a sterner test.

Lassad Noiuoiu, Efe Ambrose and Miku Fedor each need to be stretched before they will be ready for Champions League football.  Even if they get a full 90 minutes on Saturday, so I can’t see either starting against Benfica a week on Wednesday, unless they possess uncommon natural fitness, or our injury crisis steps up a level.

For those too young to have had the pleasure of watching a Celtic team managed by the great man,

    Alternatively,read Archie MacPherson’s biography. Stunning,and lovingly crafted.

Such a shame that his last season was blighted by injuries and departures. The injuries in 77-78 were the worst I can remember, and did him no favours at all in trying to rebuild a team which had recently lost Davie Hay,Ally Hunter,Billy McNeil,George Connelly,Dixie Deans and Kenny Dalglish, amongst others.

    RIP,BIG MAN.

    —-

Likewise mate-he was outstanding in the 4 qualifying ties and feel he would ensure we beat Benfica at Paradise- the role he plays is vital to our Euro game, and Sammi fills it perfectly (the new guys must be ready to step in !)

We must hope he’ll recover quickly and start where he left off -I am guessing back in action early to mid November?

Looking on the bright side- the wee rest might even do him some good

If you’ve only 12 hours you may as well stay at the airport – it’s one of the best I’ve been in. If you are needing ‘rest’ there are rooms for hire where yopu can get a bath/showerand put your feet up. loads to see and do over a few hours. Pretty massive place.

lucky enough to spend time chatting most days with an old fella in the kirkhill bar who was brought up in the same building as Jock and his brother, same lodge as jock or John to do him service.Lost him a few months ago.He was a big rangers man as was Jock but we shared a friendship and a passion that trangressed our narrow minded community.

I see Barca are only selling tickets for Spartak Moscow?, their first game and there’s no mention of CL package deals.

They are waiting till ole Sammi is fit, *clever marketing*

I have a fair few friends like that myself-sitting across from one with a deidclub strip on at this very moment.

Life’s too short to let trivial things mar it,other than a couple of hours at a time!

  15. “I am now going to tell him (Herrera) how Celtic will be the first team to bring the European Cup back to Britain. But it will not help him in any manner, shape or form: we are going to attack as we have never attacked before. Cups are not won by individuals, but by men in a team who put their club before personal prestige. I am lucky – I have the players who do just that for Celtic”

  19. Apologies if already posted. My favourite Mr Stein story: Jock and Scot Symon being asked by Arthur Montford on the eve of a Celtic/Rangers game for a score prediction. Scot Symon “2-0 to Rangers” What about you Jock? “Only a fool would try and predict the score in a Cetic/Rangers game!!!” Symon looked like he was going to explode. Priceless. Hail Hail Hebcelt
