Lions Roar, the last giant standing, CQN Mag is out!

824

Issue 16 of CQN Magazine is out today and (in my never humble opinion) is our best yet.  We are right up to date, with coverage of the Scottish Cup final.  Phil Mac Giolla Bhain gives historical perspective on Celtic’s position as the last apex in the game.

You’ve ready plenty of great stories of how people got their tickets Seville and we bring you a very Celtic story on how one man got his.  Did you notice we’ve mentioned Willie Wallace a bit recently?  Some of the reasons why are covered by two of Scotland’s best writers, Brogan Hogan and Archie MacPherson, excerpts of their contributions to Heart of a Lion are here for you.

There are lots more great articles….. including our cover theme, The Lions Roar Again Event.  The remaining Lisbon Lions are back at Celtic Park for a Q&A and Lisbon film show, in aid of 1254125.  The first event was one of those special Celtic occasions, if you missed it, make sure you get along this time.

Opportunities like this don’t come along often.  Book your tickets for the event here, bring the family.

DON’T TRY TO READ THE MAGAZINE FROM THE GRAPHC BELOW, that is just a teaser.  For a proper read, go here.  Use the navigation buttons at the bottom to flick through pages or zoom in.

    Good early evening Celts,

Pity we could not have arranged a wee night out for WW in the North West.

Sure we could have filled it.

  4. From letter sent today to ASA…

I had read about the decision you have reached and in particular note that you are simply relying on the information – or more accurately the misinformation – that was provided to you by Mr Traynor from the Newco. I also note that the evidence I supplied to you – in the words of the very same Mr Traynor when he was employed by the Daily Record as Sports editor was not considered or acknowledged.

I note that you reply on the following:

    1) Explanation from Newco that after the CVA failed the assets and business were transferred from Oldco to Newco. Please note that this does not mention HISTORY and specifically HMRC rules prohibit the transfer of goodwill in these circumstances.

Please note the slight change in name THE Rangers football Club.

    2) An EXTRACT from a decision concerning RFC by an independent commission appointed by the Scottish premier League. Can you confirm that you had an EXTRACT and not the entire decision? If the ASA consider the entire document as it relates to this matter you will get a very different picture. The theory they are quoting says that it is possible for a club to exist – for example a group of friends who form a fishing “club” but such a loose organisation cannot be a legal entity, cannot trade, cannot open a bank account, incur costs, collect fees etc – without first settling on its legal persona. This could be a limited company, partnership, sole trader and so on. In the case of Rangers Oldco – they were a limited company and this company is in liquidation. Newco have formed a new club. This is the law. Further the same commission found Oldco guilty of cheating and fined them £250,000. This fine remains unpaid and will never be paid as Newco conveniently state that it is a matter for the previous club.

The honours that Oldco won – tainted as they are by the guilty verdict from Lord Nimmo Smith in the aforementioned SPL appointed independent commission – belong to oldco. These honours carry a guilty verdict and a large unpaid fine – yet effectively the ASA are saying forget about the guilty verdict, forget about the unpaid fine but it is fine to transfer over these honours from Oldco Football Club to the Newco football club.

If they are the same club and claim that the honours have been won by one and the same club – then logically the “club” should have paid the fine that has been imposed by this commission? Cake and eat it comes to mind here.

    3) They provided a letter from the European Club Association saying that it considered them to be the same club. Worryingly they also state as a fact that they have the same club co-efficent ranking and the same trophies (the ones you will remember that Oldco were found guilty of cheating to win). This point is the crux of the matter and the reason why I think that the ASA have got this decision so badly wrong.

The ECA are not an official footballing body, they neither make the rules nor enforce the rules. For that you need to speak to UEFA. I am disappointed that the ASA have not spoken to UEFA about this matter as it is the easiest way to clear up the matter once and for all.

From what I understand Newco’s then Chief Executive Charles Green travelled to a meeting of ECA and after giving them the extract from the Independent Commission, managed to obtain from them a letter that they were the same club. This letter is misleading in the extreme although I accept that it was issued in good faith by the ECA. To state that they have the “same club co-efficient” is simply a reference to the UEFA website where the points and standing of Oldco Rangers is still displayed. After all Oldco won these points and that ranking.

However has these points and ranking of Oldco been transferred to Newco? Please ask UEFA.

Indeed it is the case that Rangers Newco – as a new club – are not allowed to participate in European Football for three years because they are a new club! Please ask Uefa. They will be more than happy to clarify.

The final point about the honours on websites – again these belong to Oldco – this season Newco won the Scottish Third Division title having been admitted into the fourth tier of Scottish football at the start of the season as a new club.

I also notice that the same Mr Traynor on the Rangers website is saying that:

“It was a ridiculous claim and we knew the Advertising Standards Authority would take the same view as the football authorities, the European Club Association (ECA), Lord Nimmo Smith and the panel of the London Stock Exchange.”

    http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/4100-scotlands-most-successful-club

I notice too that he now chooses not to refer to UEFA the governing body in football.

The ASA mission statement is legal, decent, honest and truthful. The claims made by Newco in justifying their claim to Oldco’s history fails all four tests. The ASA will now be used by them to justify their claim to something that is not rightfully theirs. That club died on liquidation owing £134M in debts. For the sake of the good name of the ASA and indeed in the interests of decency, honesty and truthfulness I hereby formally request a review.

It should take you no time at all – simply ASK UEFA.

Would it not also help matters if several journalists asked UEFA to clarify The Rangers status.

Also pressurise SFA to get a statement if clarity from UEFA.

Indeed why don’t Celtic request clarity from UEFA.

I investors should also have clarity in what they are investing in.

  13. Kenny left for ambition and I’m sure more money.

Kenny wanted to realise European ambitions at Liverpool that he realised he couldn’t do at Celtic at the time.

The old board seen to that.

Although I was devastated ( aged 8) when KK left I now understand his reasons for doing so.

Lack of foresight by the board and the biscuit tin put paid to KK staying .

He saw Liverpool were THE team in Europe then and his talents deserved a bit of that.

Never heard Kenny being anything other than respectful and grateful when talking about Celtic.

He gave us 10 wonderful years and I thank him for that

    Legend , without a doubt ! IMO

    With respect I disagree.

Dalglish was a fantastic player for Celtic and his move to England was overdue.

He had done all he was ever going to do in terms of his career when he moved. The Celtic he left was one that was run by a board that had to forced out just to save the club.

He is/was just like many, many other Celtic heroes who have moved on – whether it’s Willie Wallace to Palace or Henrik to Barcelona.

He was dignity personified during the whole Hillsborough disaster and subsequent fiasco, and was clearly personally damaged by the whole experience.

His management tenure at Celtic was not a success, but he joins a list a good men who couldn’t follow in the footsteps of giants. That is no crime.

On a personal level he went very significantly out of his way to help an in law of mine who had just lost someone she loved. At this time, Dalglish had moved to Liverpool, was still living in a Liverpool hotel with his family, and yet he intervened personally; much more than above & beyond. Think of the greatest kindness that any Celtic player has ever done, and then multiply by 10 IMHO. As far as I am aware, he has never spoken publicly about what he did & it has never appeared in print. He just did what he felt was right and then brushed it off as something “anyone would have done.”

He is human & flawed, but still very much a Celtic hero in my eyes, on and off the field.

on the KD discussion, in my eyes he is a great player, one of the best of his generation, but, celtic legend? not for this tim, he hung JB out to dry. he will always be known in the football world as Kenny dalgliesh of Liverpool not celtic, just my opinion mind.

  18. King Kenny was voted by the fans into Celtic’s greatest ever X1 by the support.

I think this demonstrates what the punters think about KK

  19. ‘The Rangers’ have made it to the end of their first season, just don’t ask about the shennaigans of who owns which bits etc, the MSM are happy,

  21. Kenny joined Celtic because we were the best team in Europe. He joined Liverpool for the same reason.

  22. Dont often post but Kenny Dalglish in my eyes will always be King Kenny. Totally idolised him as a boy and I was distraught when he left us . As an 11 year old at the time I could nt understand why he did but he outgrew us ( or rather scottish football) and I dont think anyone should be criticised for wanting to play football at a higher level. Met him one Sunday morning while working on a boat in Prosser Marine in Glasgow. He and his wife could not be nicer ,was an absolute gentleman . Though I think he thought he had a stalker when I told him he made me cry when he left us !!!! He changed as a person I think with Hillsborough , I imagine it scarred him for life but what that man done for the folk who suffered tragedy at Hillsborough was immense and he is a god down there. King Kenny Dalglish , always will be .

    …………….

Just back on the blog and read your post, it’s a great post pal and I agree although as a young jungle bhoy at the time it was a real hard thing to see Kenny go.

I never felt any animosity towards Kenny D as I knew exactly what he did for our club, he stayed way beyond the seasons as he wanted to leave, the ONLY reason he stayed was Jock Stein and the love for our club which Jock bestowed on him.

Kenny Dalgleish was a young bhoy borne into the team and eventually before he left, carried the team.

We should remember Kenny well and keep the memories warm in our heart, the young uns can check it out on u tube.

  24. Yes Kenny was special..didnt have much time for the so called fitba .interviewers …remember him as manager being asked a snidee question by one of them after a defeat ..was it this or was it that kenny ….,he replied sneeringly, are you asking me a question or making a statement…that ended the interview. liked him for that, he had them sussed out.
