“LIQUIDATION, CLUB DISSOLVED, START AGAIN IN FOURTH TIER” NEW YORK TIMES

THE NEW YORK TIMES, in its preview  of the Glasgow Derby, has joined the Daily Mail in branding tomorrow’s visitors to Celtic Park as a New Club.

Journalist Rory Smith is quite clear on the point. “The two teams have not met in the Scottish Premiership for four years, ever since years of financial mismanagement and misdeeds caught up with Rangers and led to their liquidation. The club was dissolved and forced to start again, in the country’s fourth tier.”

Earlier in the week CQN reported that The Mail Online journalist David Kent, ventured away from writing about sport south of the border, to preview tomorrow’s match at Celtic Park. He upset the hordes by telling the truth about their status since being forced into liquidation in 2012. Kent wrote:

“Celtic and Rangers have not played each other in Scotland’s top flight since the latter entered liquidation in 2012.

“Rangers were forced to reconstitute as a new club placed in the third division and have subsequently risen through the ranks to re-join the Premiership this season.”

Rory Smith talks about the 6 pages of coverage devoted to the so-called “Old Firm” game by the Evening Times, which has been getting itself into a frenzy at the prospect of the ‘return’ of this fixture in the league programme.

The problem for this newspaper, and everyone who champions the continuity myth is we remember front page headlines like this one.

So with the wider media now reporting on the FACTS about the 140 years of Rangers ending after the Ibrox meeting on 9th June 2012 seeing the club into liquidation, when can we expect the Scottish media – who all reported on the truth in 2012 – to drop the myth.

It’s not as if it’s doing their circulations any good is it?

No wonder we don’t buy their lies.
