Lisbon Lions Legacy

225

Raising money for the needy is the first part of our heritage as Celtic supporters. Once that job is done, you need to ensure it goes to worthy projects. This year is likely to see a new high water mark for your Foundation. As well as the usual badge day, bucket collection, Christmas Appeal and other projects throughout the year, we had the events surrounding the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions European Cup win.

Celebrations at The Hydro and the Grosvenor Hotel in London not only marked the anniversary in some style, they allowed the Foundation to be more ambitious with their projects.

You and I have discussed many times how seemingly innocuous contemporary events would not take place without that achievement in Lisbon, but it never occurred to me that the work done because of the Lions should bear their name in legacy.

Today, Celtic FC Foundation announced £2m would be paid to Dementia Care for projects run by Alzheimer Scotland: ‘Lions Lunch Breaks’ and ‘Dementia Befrienders’.

Research continues into the effects of heading a football on dementia. The illness has struck the Lions directly; Billy McNeill’s family recently let it be known he has suffered for several years. It is a distressing condition for both suffers and their loved ones. These projects will make daily life more enjoyable for both.

Well done to everyone who put their hand in their pocket this year.

” I don’t really disagree with the wording.

The club was not and will not be liquidated.

The club was sold out of administration, from the oldco to the newco prior to the oldco being liquidated.

If the club had remained in the OldCo throughout the liquidation process, then we would have went down the airdionians route and would have lost our history.

We retained a continuous economic entity, and therefore are correct in saying the business continued with the history intact.”

  4. BSR- Graeme Numpty will get job till end of the season, if they beat Hamilton, i bet he doesn’t even get a pay rise.

  5. Alisdair- ‘ we don’t do walking away’, you gotta laugh, unless you are one of the 292 creditors

  6. The other matters comment in a board response today is vague but I am hoping that this is about the concerns voiced on here for many years now about governance, transparency and accountability of footballing bodies in this country , I am though a bit disappointed that there appears to be no timescale for the CO to deal with license issue and report back.

  7. Good evening friends.

Any spares for Saturday for wee BGFC and his da? They are travelling to Dingwall ticketless.

My sis has claimed Marcus spares.

  13. BGFC have you thought of contacting Ross County ticket office, looked on their website today and there are defo tickets available beside the Celtic fans. H H Hebcelt

  14. Had to laugh at a hun I grew up with, who I met today. He was extolling the virtues of Eriksen and Denmark, whilst denigrating Martin O’Neill’s anti fitba philosophy. When I reminded him that Walter Smith got them to a Euro final playing anti fitba, and their support fecked it off the park by wrecking Manchester, as badly as WS did by parking the bus in a Euro final on the park. He made a swift exit. Thick as shecht.
