Little surprise in Ledley moving on

287

I remember the early days of Joe Ledley’s time at Celtic, in particular for defending him with pleas to ‘give him time to settle’.  He did settle into an accomplished midfield player but there should be no surprise he is moving on now.

Joe has managed his career well.  He allowed his Cardiff City contract to expire, making himself available without a transfer fee.  Celtic snapped him up but the leverage the player had, without a contract, was compensated by a top contract.

Is he worth a top contract?  Is he worth pushing the boat out, beyond the current top contract level?  Yes to the first question, perhaps, but no to the second, he sat on the bench when Wanyama and Brown occupied central mid in last season’s Champions League.  Celtic put a contract to him but would have known there was a high possibility it would be rejected, as the player would be able to negotiate a contract in the ever-inflating English Premier League.

If his deal goes through at Crystal Palace he’ll leave with my best wishes, both parties probably made the best decision for their own futures.

Sorry to see Joe go but good lick to him. Not sure Palace is a great move …

And welcome to Leigh Griffiths. He now has a big chance to become a hero and I hope he has the mental strength to go with his undoubted talents.

Celtic are close to completing a deal to sign Leigh Griffiths – but Joe Ledley could be on his way to Crystal Palace.

Wolves striker Griffiths has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Scottish champions and is expected to be paraded before the transfer deadline.

But Ledley has a decision to make after Celtic accepted an offer for the Wales midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer and has failed to accept a new deal to stay at Parkhead.

Manager Neil Lennon this week insisted 23-year-old Scotland international Griffiths would improve his squad.

Lennon said: “He is here and the deal has been agreed so subject to a medical he will be a Celtic player hopefully before 11 o’clock tonight which I am very pleased about.”

On Ledley, Lennon said: “A bid has come in from Palace and has been accepted. It is now down to the player and his representatives.”

Across the city, Rangers boss Ally McCoist hopes to see out Friday without any departures. The Ibrox club – whose players rejected a 15 per cent pay cut this month – have knocked back two offers from Nottingham Forest for Scotland left-back Lee Wallace.

“We will have to wait and see what happens but I’m not expecting to be busy,” McCoist said.

“The club did receive a couple of offers for Lee Wallace earlier this week but they did not meet the club’s valuation for the player and were rejected.

“I did notice that Forest took Danny Fox on loan until the end of the season but you would have to ask wee Billy Davies if that was the end of their interest in Lee.

“He has been one of our key players for the last couple of years, so we are very keen to keep players of his calibre.

“We have a team that is doing well in the league and it would be nice if that were to remain, but I am aware of the financial situation at the club, so we will have to wait and see what will happen.”

McCoist added: “I don’t think there will be the scope to bring one or two players in. I’d be very hopeful that might change in the summer.”

Hibernian announced three loan additions to their side until the end of the campaign, subject to international clearance.

Terry Butcher has signed 26-year-old Notts County striker Danny Haynes, 19-year-old Sunderland winger Duncan Watmore and 21-year-old Arsenal right-back Daniel Boateng.

Dundee United agreed the loan signing of 20-year-old Newcastle central defender Curtis Good, who joins until the end of the season.

Partick Thistle brought in two midfielders on loan until the end of the campaign after Ross Forbes signed release papers to depart Firhill.

They have signed Ghana international Prince Buaben, who won the Scottish Cup during four years at Dundee United before joining Watford in 2011 and moving to Carlisle last summer.

And George Moncur – described by Thistle as a hard-tackling central midfielder – has arrived from West Ham. The 20-year-old was an England Under-18 international and has made two first-team appearances for the Hammers as well as 20 on loan at AFC Wimbledon.

Ross County completed their seventh signing of the window as 25-year-old Slovakian right-back Erik Cikos joined from Slovan Bratislava until the end of the season.

Kilmarnock have signed Sunderland winger David Moberg Karlsson on loan until the end of the season. The 19-year-old joined Sunderland for £1.5million from IFK Gothenburg last summer but has made just one appearance for the Black Cats, in the Capital One Cup.

Killie released Portuguese wideman David Silva and teenage defender Caiomhin Bonner, while Northern Irish winger Jude Winchester has returned to his homeland to sign for Cliftonville on a three-month loan.

Meanwhile, Danny Grainger terminated his contract with St Mirren by mutual consent.

A bit of a repost from last night guys, was wondering what Auldheid et al think of this? Some of you will know I don’t ecept the party line on what happened to RFC(IL). I don’t just accept thing’s to be true just because everyone is saying it’s thus. Here’s an alternative take on the Sandy Bryson issue re improper registrations.

Morrisey has tried on this site to get people to support his scotsforchange idea on twitter, as has henrik1. The thing that lets their idea down though is that it is so anti Rangers it’s embarrassing, correct me if I’m wrong here guys but if everything you say is true then those that should be your most ardent supporters would be the RFC(IL) fans as the SFA actually did them the most wrong?

1 of their aims is to get Sandy Bryson of the SFA the sack as they think he misrepresented the sfa at the Lord Nimmo inquirey.

This is pure and utter bullshit as for LNS and the improper registration, the SFA have no policy of fundamental annulity when it came to registrations. That caught me out, but I understand they do that to protect themselves from litigation at some future point. If you want to find an SPL precedent consider the following.

    Livi fined over Kachloul signing

Hassan Kachloul played eight games for Livingston

Dundee are to appeal the SPL’s decision to fine Livingston £15,000 for a breach of transfer regulations.

The SPL ruled that Livingston were wrong to register Hassan Kachloul as an amateur but decided the club gained no real advantage from the mistake.

Kachloul was entitled to sign on professional terms on his March arrival because he was unattached to a club.

Dundee are angry Livingston have not been docked points that may have saved them from relegation.

The Dens Park club, who finished two points behind Livi, have called the ruling as a “charter for cheats.” and say they will appeal against the decision to the Scottish Football Association.

Dunfermline and Dundee raised concerns after Kachloul arrived on an amateur contract, in a move designed to circumvent the transfer window regulations.

However, since the Moroccan midfielder was not leaving a club to join Livingston, there was no need for such an arrangement.

Kachloul played eight games for Livingston, including a nail-biting final day encounter against Dundee that ended 1-1.

An SPL statement said: “Livingston have been found to have been in breach of both of SFA Articles and registration procedures and the SPL Rules by registering Hassan Kachloul as an amateur player.

“But the Board identified that Hassan Kachloul would have been eligible to be registered as a professional player by Livingston on March 31, 2005 and to have played in league matches during the remainder of season 2004-05.

“As a consequence, Livingston secured no competitive advantage by having registered the player as an amateur, rather than as a professional, since the club would have been entitled, had due enquiry been made regarding Hassan Kachloul’s contractual history and his position under the rules of football, to have registered the player as a professional.

“For breach of the rules of the SPL, the board have severely censured Livingston FC, warned the club about their need to comply with those rules in the future, and fined the club £15,000.” Dundee have already threatened to go to the courts over the matter.

And the relegated club would seek to have former Livingston boss Richard Gough and players who have since left the club called as witnesses in any civil action.

Kachloul scored the goals that kept Livi up. Livi signed him as an amateur – but secretly paid him – because they thought they had missed the registration date for end-of-season signings.

And I don’t think I am a moral compass for anybody, it was you who labelled me that.

Think about that too before you use the Daily Record as the foundation to your morality.

  6. Hi all,

Those of you who know me will be well aware of my great and unflagging interest in ancient legends, their subsequent misappropriation during the pre-enlightenment years and the even more scandalous hypocritical use to further the demeaning causes of the Devil and his emissary on earth – Sepp Blatter.

With nothing of too much weight to occupy us today, I thought I might take a few seconds of your precious time to highlight the pernicious employment of that mythical holy man who annointed Solomon, was the first to decree that Kings were appointed by God, became the eponymous hero of a dirge in the justification of the Protestant Hanoverian succession to the throne of these convoluted islands which most iniquitously, is blared out at Celtic Park and has been adopted as ring tones by so many of us all the while being used by FIFA as some sort of anthem; the use of which by some miracle of hypocrisy turns them into lovers of football, paragons of virtue and keepers of the holy flame of sporting integrity.

You’ve got it haven’t you – it’s that damnable Zadok the priest! What a lot he’s got to answer for and I propose that fans everywhere should get together to change the anthem that celebrates the greatest football show on earth – when it involves us that is!

    My justifications (opinions) are threefold.

    1. God does not appoint or annoint kings! Kings (and queens for that matter ) should be confined to attics and towers, disolved in sodium hydroxide and turned into pound shop drain unblocker. (Don’t just take my opinion for it….see Sam. 2:30-36; 1 Kings 1:19; 2:26, 27).

    2. George Frederick Handel was a tit, but not as big a tit as George II for whom he composed the jingle, and while I have as much time for royalty as I do for alcohol free lager, it should be noted that the said George II was in fact 52nd in line to the cursed throne and it was only after the exclusion (by dint of the traitorous Act of Settlement) of 50 tims that he found himself at the head of the satanic queue of the damned.

    3. I’ve never heard a postman whistling it. If a postie can’t whistle it, then it isn’t music!

    Q.E.D. I think it’s fair to say!

So what do we replace it with.

Well these are only suggestions but I think worthy of consideration.

I would favour (in traditional reverse order)

    – Your Tiny Hand is Frozen (Che Gelida Manina) from La Boheme

    – One fine day (un bel di) from Madame butterefly

    – I lived for art (Vissi D’arte) followed by the bit where Tosca throws herself from the balcony, betrayed by Baron Scarpia singing O Scarpia, we meet before God!, (O Scarpia, Avanti a Dio!)

All of course were created by that big Tim Giacomo Puccini!

Now If you think that I am just bumping my gums, you could not be more wrong.

This campaign, successful or otherwise would see the board, the GB, The Jungle Bhoys, The Celtic Comrades, those in the Comfy seats and the miserable gits in row P block 103 at last come together under one flag, one cause, one vision of the future as with some justification, the whole crowd could stand, scarves aloft, hearts beating to the sound of the orchestra reaching a crescendo and chant echoing not only around Celtic park, but to the very heavens above, flowing down every street, brightening every star in the night sky, crossing seas, mountains, deserts and rainforests with the imprint of musical magic in their souls……..

Celtic have a Charity Foundation, Celtic are under no obligation to have a Charity Foundation. The Charity Foundation collect money via various initiatives involving supporters and are funded via the PLC which generates its income through ticket and merchandise sales. This means that the Celtic supporter funds the Charity Foundation. Despite no legal obligation to have a charitable arm Celtic PLC are still castigated for doing what they do.

As for the food bank crack that was my piece of hyperbole to emphasise my point. SUPER ALLY – MONEY CAN’T BUY JIG

    Matt Dimsay

Rangers manager super Ally McCoist has revealed to the Evening Times the runaway League One leaders have turned down two bids in excess of £20m for superstar Lee McCulloch.

Big Jig led Rangers to the title last season and is the talisman for the Ibrox side as they attempt to win an unprecedented treble, which not even Celtic have managed to do, this season.

And the man known simply as Super Ally, who in a completely unselfish act has halved his salary recently, is determined to hold on to his skipper at any cost.

“Absolutely,” the gaffer said as he joked with the press ahead of this weekend’s League One showdown with the Silver Larch at the Old Swing Park.

“No one has told me I have to sell players, and if anyone suggests otherwise then I’d absolutely demand to know the names of these people. Big Lee is worth his weight in bricks, and I’m talking about Ibrox bricks. This club plays at a listed building.

“But seriously. It would take a lot more than £20m to tempt us to sell big Jig. He’s an absolutely wonderful guy and I know he’s here for the same reasons as me.”

Not bad? Maybe – until you realise that Daniel Sturridge (10 goals for Liverpool) and Loic Remy (six for QPR) scored the lion’s share of those.

  24. Good evening everybody. Is there any further news about signings? I wish our new signing well.

  27. In a past life now long gone I was a Project Manager and if my Projects had failed to the extent that we seem to experience at Celtic then I would have been for the old tin tack!

Who is the Project Manager in our case.

I would also try and get any new signings through Amazon or E-bay.

I got a matching (smooth aluminium) ceiling and wall spotlights from Amazon that didn’t function as they should have. I returned them and got my money back!

So I reckon we should have a wee checklist for player acquisitions.

No of goals that will be scored.

    No of Assists

    No of defence splitting passes

No of penalty saves/death defying dives at the feet of advancing forwards etc etc.

If the spec isn’t reached…..send them back in deep dudgeon from whence they came and get our dosh back along with P&P and agents fees.

I know that it would need an impartial and sharp eyed judge …..so I vote for me.
