Little sweat on the plastic, Rogic, Hamilton put others to shame

99

Saturday’s win over Hamilton Accies was a classic of the pre-European genre.  Batter into an early lead, then stroll around making sure you leave with the points with very little sweat on the plastic surface.

I know we want to see Celtic win these games comfortably, but we have learned the tempo of the team beats up and down.  Leaving Lanarkshire with the 100% record intact and no further injuries is a satisfying weekend’s work.

Tom Rogic’s functionary return to action for the first time this season was a welcome sight.  From memory, it takes Tom a while after injury to return to full sharpness, so performance expectations should be low for a few weeks.

Hamilton start each season as everyone’s favourite for relegation.  They have precious few fans or resources, but their ability to scout and develop young talent puts others to shame.  This season they will be comforted by the existence of Hearts in the league.  At the same stage last year, it was Craig Levein’s side who were top of the table with a 100% record.

I have no beef with Levein, who appears to be an equal opportunity moaner, but he is no Robbie Neilson.  The Hearts director, Craig Levein, should have a word with the Hearts manager, Craig Levein.

    RESULTS FROM GAME #3 – HAMILTON 0 CELTIC 1

After receiving 179 and 204 votes from the AIK and Sevco games interest waned a little for game number 3 with only 141 votes cast, perhaps a reflection of the dip in our overall performance. Nevertheless, a big thank you to the 47 CQNrs who voted.

Interestingly, all 10 of the outfield starters received at least a couple of votes. Poor old Fraser Forster who really didn’t put a foot (or a hand) wrong, failed to score! Here’s where the votes went –

Forster: 0; Elhamed*: 17; Jullien: 6; Ajer: 12; Bolingoli-Mbombo*: 34; Brown: 16; McGregor*: 2; Forrest: 38; Christie: 7; Elyounoussi: 7; Edouard: 2. There was also an email from WITS mentioning Jonny Hayes but unfortunately it came in after the 10pm deadline 😉

So for this week the points awarded are as follows – Forrest: 5, Bolingoli-Mbombo: 4, Elhamed: 3, Brown: 2, Ajer: 1

And the aggregate totals are now

    Forrest – 10 points

    Edouard – 8 points

    Bolingoli-Mbombo – 8 points

    Jullien – 6 points

    Elhamed – 5 points

    Bitton – 3 points

    Christie – 3 points

    Brown – 2 points

    Ajer – 1 point

See you again following the Rennes game – voting will be open from the final whistle until 10pm on Friday evening.

    Hail Hail

The crucial positions couldn’t have been much earlier filled, than they were. Both Jullien and Bolingoli were signed pre season, and played in the Austrian tour.

NFL thought neither were ready for Cluj hardly the fault of the board.

I guess it just depends on how much you want to blame Lawwell which some posters will do with gusto.

Which underlines the importance of filling the crucial positions even earlier where possible . The January window or even the previous close season window . Forward planning does not mean signing players a few weeks before crucial games.

For what it’s worth , I still believe we would have beaten Cluj with Julien and Boli in defence , Calmac in midfield. Slavia may have been a different proposition though.

    We’ll never know .

  7. Good morning CQN from a dry Garngad

Good luck to big Jozo on his recovery, hopefully it’s the same knee getting sorted out that’s been troubling him.

So jealous my Bhoy and his mates are off for a 5 day break to Majorca and will take in the Rennes game in Santa Ponsa’s Dubliner. Whilst I just graft away in dreary auld Glesga, kids nowadays no thoughts for their parents..😂😂😂

I see Rennes are sitting second in Ligue 1 (I think that’s what it’s called) behind PSG.

This will be a tougher task than I first thought.

Calling any and all Cumbria based die-hards of the former Celtic Nation FC in Carlisle. League 2 action to attend.

Dig out your scarves, rattles and flags tonight in support of Jack Aitchison’s 3rd placed Forest Green Rovers at Brunton Park v 15th placed United. Rovers have scored seven goals in eight games. It’ll be a classic.
