Livi pitch an appropriate white flag

457

Before we get into the meat of the matter, I would like to record how impactful Kristoffer Ajer is at full back.  He is not a full back, of course, this is not even his second best position, but he can get beyond his man and send a dangerous cross into the heart of the penalty box.  This marks him as unique in our full back options.  Of the many lessons from the season, let one be that we need better full backs at both sides of the field.

Conceding fouls inside your own half is not considered a capital crime at other clubs, so we should temper our annoyance at Shane Duffy (or the absent, but often guilty, Diego Laxalt), but we all know Celtic cannot defend set-pieces.  At Livingston’s first goal, it was the otherwise excellent Kris Ajer who failed to track his man, not Nir Bitton, who stuck like glue to his opponent but was blamed by a scapegoat seeking Sky co-commentator.

When Livingston breached the Celtic defence for a second time, I was not concerned, as we were playing well and I expected a 30-minute onslaught towards the Livingston goal.  Instead, Livingston consolidated their position, aided by four substitutions in 17 minutes either side of the goal, which finished Celtic as a threat.  Credit to David Martindale.

Scott Brown’s ‘Get stuck into them’ cameo might have worked in a different era.  We have seen similar flailing arms go completely unpunished against us, but it was the last thing we needed last night.  By full time, the Livingston pitch resembled a very appropriate white flag.

  1. If they fire him now without notice he is due a year’s salary

If they told him 6 months ago he’s due 6 months salary

  2. ERNIE LYNCH

    And why would he.

” I’ll just resign, even although I know they’ve nobody else never mind anybody better lined up? ”

Then of course he also has the ‘where the bodies are buried’ ace up his sleeve, they couldn’t even sack Tony Mowbray properly.

To whom do you refer, Mr Bankiebhoy?

  4. Let’s see and 1/4 is still very low odds, sometimes the bookies get a little bit of inside info.

I think it’s on the cards and may be no bad thing, who knows ?

Just don’t care anymore and sick of the whole situation. I would prefer if lenny done himself no more damage and I think the French connection have flung him under the bus.

Not one have performed this season.

    N&V

  5. SD- ive posted myself for him to go,but pay him off,cut a deal or gardening leave, just get him out

  6. If Lenny does want to go he could give them notice he’s resigning 1 year from now, then the ball is in their court.

I think that’s how it works

  7. 31003 on 21ST JANUARY 2021 8:45 PM

If it’s a one year rolling contract then he’s entitled to one year’s wages if he’s sacked. There might be bonuses to sort out too.

The contract would probably stipulate what notice he should give if he resigns, though how realistic that is I don’t know.

    i dont think thats right

if they told him 6 months ago then he would just have stopped working 6 months ago because he would still get a years wages

if you were told you could get a years wages without going into work would you still go in?

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Just caught a chunk of the first half of Liverpool vs Burnley.

    Two things jump out.

    1. Sean Dyche’s team are everything the current Celtic team are not.

I wonder what kind of clauses he has in his contract?

    2. Andy Robertson misses Virgil’s promptings and set up. He is still a smashing player but nothing like his peak performance of previously.

Kieran Tierney, with a season to acclimatise to the EPL under his belt, is already looking like a better player. 3 years younger too.

    Hail hail

From memory they put BTM on garden leave, which I thought at the time was a cheapskate move, and would be seen as such by any future replacements, so cheapskate and short termist.

  11. Ray Singh-Carr on

Another day where the corporate governors of our great Club have continued to fiddle while we have continued burning. An astonishing level of incompetence/intransigence. Shocking. Hopefully hell has a special corner for them. They have trampled on the dreams of the real Celtic support.

  12. Pochettino was on gardening leave from Spurs for over a year, about 100k a week…..it’s very common

  13. Sean Dyche and a lot of the EPL managers tactics is not to lose – Celtic expect to win every game so they’re player selection etc is on that basis.

  14. Huddle

They can tell him now his contract will not be renewed a year from now. He can tell them similar.

If they told him that 6 months ago but want him out now they will still have to pony up the remainder…..6 months

  15. lets all do the huddle on

tierney has been terrific lately for arsenal. their play all seems to be geared around getting the ball to him and they look a much better team for it

previously they had been been a team of highly paid individuals who looked like they couldnt give a shit, punching well below their weight

    sounds familiar

  16. Dermot Desmond wants Lenny to remain in place .

No matter whether Lenny resigns or he is served notice to quit .

The club know that they will have to pay him for 12 months from the point that either party serves notice.

I have no doubt that Dermot has sanctioned PL to look for another manager .

Dermot himself may be involved in that search and the recruitment process.

But it is obvious that Dermot has decided that we are better with Lenny in place for the time being , than we would be without him.

But make no bones about it PL is following DD’s instructions.

    TT

  17. If Lenny was Uber successful, got a better deal elsewhere and resigned right now, he’d have to pay them a years worth of his salary

  18. Finishing touches now being applied to Eddie Howe’s Celtic contract with details still to be finalised in Jason Tindall’s (assistant manager) offer. It is expected Howe will be unveiled by Friday 29th with Martin Reilly now negotiating Neil Lennon’s severance package. Dermot Desmond had hoped to have matters completed by Monday next week but the hold up is is purely on minor contractual / legal details. Eddie Howe will be the new Celtic boss.

That was just sent to me

  19. lets all do the huddle on

If they told him that 6 months ago but want him out now they will still have to pony up the remainder…..6 months

yeah but if they told him 6 months ago then that is the start of his years notice

    so down tools…

anyway, we are guessing his contract situation but 1 years rolling contracts seem to be the popular choice for recruiting managers

bottom line is that if this is a stand off between NL and PL then it is us and the team that are suffering while they collect cash

the PLC should pay up now, but it might upset PLs bonus

  20. lets all do the huddle on

If Lenny was Uber successful, got a better deal elsewhere and resigned right now, he’d have to pay them a years worth of his salary

    i think that is right

but right now he looks more Uber driver than Uber successful

  21. lets all do the huddle on

You can’t just down tools on notice. That’s a sackable offence. No monies due at that point

ahh, i see where your coming from about telling him 6 months ago

    agreed…

  22. 1/4 ? Eddie Howe don’t know about him coming,If Newcastle get beat this weekend,I’m sure Eddie will be the Geordies new manager,I keep seeing on here about James McCarthy coming to us ,not for me injury prone, and I would think he will turn out like Duffy,as for coaches there are plenty of them out there ,Germany,Italy ,Spain ,Norway, etc

Last night you embarrassed yourself telling us how we could still win the league, your delusion is almost comical.

Tonight you state an entitled fan base is what’s deterring potential managers not a meddling CEO.

You’re quickly becoming a joke figure

Problem with blogs is that writing something down has much more permanence than mouthing off in the pub. Gives the casters-up free reign to steam into people about things they may have said months or years ago!!

I’m sure most would be embarrassed at some of the things that come unbidden from our mouths at times, especially if they were rendered indelible by being recorded on a searchable blog site :-))

I am kind of with you on this. If the board don’t want Lenny then he is gone. No ifs, no buts. Maybe he is just holding the fort. His time is over though .Time to write a new chapter. So we will see.

But holding the fort would imply something totally different to the current narrative

The board have viewed the last year and thought – we’ve had so much success that this can only be a blip we’ve shown what we do works

Then a sizeable chunk of fans have looked at the same thing and thought this ain’t right , repeating what we did before will ruin us

and the whole lot has fallen to crappola.
