Livi will arrive at Celtic Park confident

386

After a home defeat to St Mirren in November precipitated Gary Holt’s resignation as Livingston manager, the West Lothian club have won all eight games played, by any measure, they are the form team in Scotland right now.  They were 13 points behind fourth placed Hibernian after that St Mirren defeat.  Hibs have played three games more than Livingston since then but the gap has shrunk to 7 points.

That should illustrate how Livi will be a more difficult opponent than Hibs were this week.  New manager, David Martindale, will fancy his chances of making a name for himself at Celtic Park tomorrow.

Celtic are still without their 13 isolating players, as well as the long-term injured, although Nir Bitton returns from suspension and will likely replace Stephen Welsh.  I expect David Turnbull to move into the middle at the expense of Tom Rogic, with Ewan Henderson starting on the right as he finished against Hibs.

Neil Lennon might be thinking long and hard about Diego Laxalt, who conceded the late foul Hibs equalised from on Monday, and did the same at Ibrox, preceding the corner kick Newco scored from.  It is not totally Diego’s fault that we cannot defend set-pieces satisfactorily, but we need to find a way to stop him conceding them.  Replacement by Greg Taylor is an option.

I have no suggestions as to what we do up front but would not be surprised if Mikey Johnston moved inside.  On the positive side, Livingston will not know what to expect from us.

I read the Huddleboard regularly though it is a long time since I posted there. I don’t recall anyone being prescient in decrying the Dubai trip in advance, though I may have missed your unique response.

Celtic announced approval of the trip, by the JRG, on the 20th November- was it near then that you commented (I don’t need exact date and times to research this)? Or was it when the commnetator repeated that announcement in the Sevco game that you posted i.e. during or shortly fter the match? Or are you referring to some other “announcement” when you were informed of the trip?

Was your criticism largely based on the threat of Covid or based on the players not deserving a “treat” for their efforts, or both?

Which character in The Simpsons do you imagine yourself to be?

  3. I’ve thought over the years that we’ve had a few Scottish players who will get stuck in but get found out badly at European level e.g. Barry Robson.

Then, we have ones who don’t fancy the Scottish game but look quite comfortable in the CL – e.g. Jiri Jarosik.

Not that many who were comfortable in both environments. Other than Henrik.

    The way I see it

We will be living with covid19 for the foreseeable future.

The purpose of the vaccine is to reduce the stress on the NHS by reducing the effect the virus has on the most vulnerable. After 2 doses it will give up to 90% immunity.

My mother in law got the vaccine this afternoon. I’ll certainly be signing up.

` Rightly or wrongly it is certainly food for thought.`

Why is it food for thought if it is wrong?

Do you think the vaccine is a waste of time or am I misreading your post ( very possible !) ?

  7. Greenpinata

Forgive me for butting in on TBB territory

I think that rather cynical social media response does not understand how the scientific method works.

In short, just because you don’t know everything about the disease and its mutations does not mean that you know nothing.

Vaccine protections are not cures (just as TET thought he was providing us with something surprising when he stated this; I would have thought that most people knew the distinction between a protection and a cure).

No scientist at this stage would want to commit a firm YES to any 100% protection from the vaccine, the mask , the social distancing or the lockdown measures. We remain vulnerable and unsure of all the effects until we have started to implement them.

The interventions are being continually measured, and the projections continually re-modelled to take into account new information. We thought the virus would mutate but we did not know how exacly. Our best reading, at the moment, is that the vaccines will still offer protection against the new strain but that the new strain spreads faster than the original so it becomes ever more important to roll out the vaccination programe as fast and as widespread as we can.

We did not know at the beginning that you could catch this virus twice. We now have evidence that you can.

Each vaccine that has been trialled and passed for use, has published its success rates, based on a) treating the original virus and not the new strain and b) on the basis of the particular doseage and dosage intervals between first and second jag (if applicable) that they trialled. None of them offered 100% protection but some suggested we could achieve quite high levels (95%).

So, there is now way of knowing whether you are in the 95% or the 5% after vaccination is completed. There is not even continuing certainty that these are the figures for the new mutation- it may be less effective- it may be as low as 75% and 25% but that remains better than 0% and 100% which were the respective figures beforehand. No protection and an inevitability that it would spread to near everyone.

But each step (distancing, masking, vaccining, lockdown etc;) offers one more layer of protection. We will know more about what level of risk remains for vaccined people once we have a significant sample of completed vaccinees to research this on. Very few have had their 2nd dose as yet.

So, I deplore that rather cynical social media attempt to equate a willingness to admit what you don’t know yet with a portrayal that you know nothing. There is a less than subtle push being made their to promote a line that “The experts know nothing” .

Sadly, on Facebook and elsewhere there is a lot of this around, coming from people who could not describe to you how the scientific method works (or coming from Russian bots seking to sow mistrust and cynicism).

From their article on Moussa’ transfer to Atletico Madrid. You don’t need Google Translate to catch the drift bolded here.

“El Lyon, que pagó 22 millones por Dembélé en agosto de 2018 para ficharlo del Celtic de Glasgow. Precisamente en este club se ganó el apodo de ‘Hunskelper’, que es una suerte de ‘título honorífico’ que los hinchas católicos le dan a sus jugadores por su desempeño en el club, especialmente en los partidos ante eterno rival, el Rangers. Se deriva de los términos ‘hun’, con el que se designa a los hinchas del cuadro azul y ‘skelp’, que es golpear.”

  11. Gents,

Many thanks for the answers ‘re the vacinne. I guess TBB will give a more detailed / informed answer.

This is legimate questions everyone is asking. It is not anti vax in the slightest

Although I agree with Gene that the virus in some form will be here indefinitely, the vax gives us hope.

It was interesting looking at the latest data stating that previous infection gives T cell and antibody protection equivalent or greater than the vax itself.

There must be a way out and the vaccine seems the best vehicle, because lockdown cannot continue indefinitely. Even the WHO state ” Lockdown is a blunt tool, the only sure thing is that the poor get poorer “.

    Thanks and Rgds to all.

Ernie’s response was certainly more succinct and a bit gruffer than mines.

It’s down to your old response of querying the line “My opinion is as good as yours”.

We are left arguing in that unprovable arena unless people are willing to state what filters they use to measure the truth of anything.

If you take the Eamon Holmes line that you can’t criticise the 5G sceptics because “they may have a point” then you have to concede that flat earthers might be right and the diskworld theory of “Elephants All the way down” is as valid as The Big Bang Theory.

Incidentally, Eamon Holes, who was querying the effects of 56 radiation was quite happy to get paid big bucks to advertise Revitive therapy which consist of shooting impulses directly into your feet.

He defended the space like lion with fresh kimpala.

Boy could he eat, quite something,

  18. My team for tomorrow

    Hazard

    Frimpong Welsh Duffy Laxalt

    Soro Robertson

    Johnston McGregor Turnbull

    Dembele

I suspect, however, that Mikey will be asked again to make the best of it upfront on his own and that Henderson will be shoe-horned into the RM postion instead of say, Dembele

Livi are in great form but I think we can beat them with this team if Duffy is calm again and we defend set plays better. We cannot avoid conceding them so we have to get better at defending them.
