Living within your means still resisted

Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative at Uefa has been one of the more inspiring developments at the top of our game for decades.  It brought spending into line with income throughout the English game and punished what Platini called financial doping.

It has been so effective, Platini now promises to relax the rules.  The blame does not all sit with Platini.  Uefa are dealing with 10 legal challenges to the rules, with complainant clubs citing European Law in their defence.  The big football powers are split.  The English appear in favour of FPP (Manchester City aside), while many stressed clubs across Europe are in opposition.

The concept of living within your means is still resisted in our game, not just in barred hold-outs in Scotland.

Except for the old saying …. you sleep with dogs, you get fleas ….

    ——————————————

I sort of agree, Mike, but we’ve been getting fleas off them for 100 years. “Old Firm” fleas.

To the extent that when their bigoted, supremacist hordes trashed Manchester, or Barcelona or any of a score of other places, we were commonly, albeit ignorantly, regarded as the other side of the same coin.

I’m very happy that disgraced businessman Dave King today got the go-ahead from the disgraced SFA to run the disgraced RIFC.

Mainly because he is odds-on to tip the tribute act off the same cliff, as he did with the original sack of poison.

But also because it will annoy Mike Ashley, who now owns everything that’s left of any value of the toxic brand (because that’s what he does).

Whatever, it will be an amusing, but less and less relevant, sideshow as we get on with being a European club again.

  5. Great news from the SFA. Their bias blinds them to the stupidity of their actions. One of the guys who killed the old club running the new club, 82 tax convictions later. Brilliant

Does anyone know if any of oldco’s shafted creditors can apply for money from the Phoenix club?

Green (if I can call you by your first name)

I dont wory about zombies for zombies sake … I worry about what being associated with them and the SFA does to Celtic … you cant live next to Chernobyl and not worry about radiation poisoning and dying of cancer ….

the problem is that, as our league becomes increasingly corrupted (or at least, seen to be corrupted … it always was, but now people are starting to realize that), its value diminishes … no sponsor for years, and then given away for a pittance … ridiculously low TV deal ….

we may the the one eyed man in the land of the blind … but we are still operating in the land of the blind… and the real world of football (including many countries we formerly looked down on) have passed Scotland by …. and Scotland can hardly be seen in their rear view mirror ….

eventually, this will trickle down to Celtic … we can command a much larger slice of an ever decreasing pie in Scotland …. we will find it harder and harder to compete wage-wise with English thrid and fourth tier clubs …. and without the funds to bring in decent players, we will suffer and diminish on the European theater ….

now, of course, by the time this rot fully sets in, DD will have long sold off his shares (for a tidy profit) … so, I guess all is good at Celtic.

  11. HebCelt: If that ticket is still available I would be happy to take it. I’ll even bring over some of our best black and white pudding as part payment:)

“Glib and Shameless” shadow of the Scottish Rite is all over this “Fit and Proper” decision.

Will be interesting to see how many “Glib and Shameless” decisions will be made in Sevco’s up and coming play off matches.

Perhaps “Fit and Proper” Bro McLean is being held back for the final Play off fixture just in case.

H.H.

  20. Gooday all, a rare appearance for me as for once I have almost caught up when one subject was about the “missing posters”.

Philbhoy was one of the posters, now I first noticed him as he was always telling people he disagreed with to “go away” less politely of course. Then over christmas he made an act of contrition and asked “to be better understood” and I thought – he’s at it! this boys good!

Over the following months as I took note more, I think he reached the peak in advising fellow

fans/supporters to join other sites, and then today…….. sublime self parody!!!!

Anybody notice the absence of many longtime posters on here over recent months? I appreciate that life moves on but I fear that the quality and nature of the many non Celtic/football posts has driven many away. Any thoughts?

Big Peter doesn’t, as far as I am aware, hold a gun to our heads and instruct us to watch Celtic V Rangers. Our support want to watch those games. Unfortunately.

The SFA are a joke – nothing knew there.

If we had had the choice, most of us would have said OK for King in charge of Sevco rather than Big Mike.

However, what I don’t want to see now is a deal between King and Ashley.

For me, that is THE danger.

The SFA will turn a blind eye…

Half a team of NU players, why not a full quota, and – here under the table a loan of squillion.

They are no longer listed – they can do what they like.

Today’s football, a bit like “Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative” – a lost cause for us punters who love the aul’ game as it was.
