Given that most of us didn’t fancy the trip to Livingston, I can’t understand the negativity regarding last nights result and performance. Against expectations, we actually came out of the fixture better off than we went into it, having fought back against a tricky opponent on a difficult pitch.

Some people need perspective, we wont play well in every game and we wont win every game – look at the league table and get a grip.

Celtic FC – borne of famine and oppression.

  3. We all want new ghuys to burst on the scene & become immediate superstars, I am no different to anyone else in that regard, I’m disappointed that we haven’t really seen Polish Paddy or Soro yet, I am disappointed in Bolingoli, he came with good pedigree, played with a smile on his face, tried hard but kept passing the ball to the opposition.

The reality is we are prisoners of our own success, we as a Support go absolutely Tonto if we lose a game, we hate to drop any points or even concede a goal.

This obsession with ten in a row is only upping the ante on ourselves.

Lenny is sticking with more or less the same trusted & tried players and I can understand why,

Can you imagine the reaction here if Eddie was given a break & Polish Paddy was drafted in, and we lost the game.

There are players we bought in there are young kids like Welsh & Dembele etc These ghuys need a break, but the constant demand for 100% perfection is limiting their chances.

Hopefully we can beat the Huns at the BigotDome & wrap up the Title before the split & give these Bhoys some game time./

P.S. Forrest was OK last night, didn’t make my top3 but he certainly wasn’t a weak link.

  4. Comedy Gold from the gullibles, posting about who should be the new manager,

“The appointment of Gerrard was a mistake. We are too big a club for a Rookie manager.Someone like Duncan Ferguson maybe. He done a great job at Everton, when he stood in for 3 or 4 games”

Really, they are the stupidest ,most moronic fans on the planet.Funny though.

Re Tom’s reaction, I am also if the opinion that the team thought we had scraped a consolation point as they were unaware of the score at iPox. There was also a shot of Neil in the dug out appearing to be told the news, as he clearly mouthed. …..”Hamilton”. Ok he could have been ordering tickets for a musical but I’m sticking to my guns😀

Pitch is a real leveller. Literally. Caused Julienns slip to let them in for the equaliser.

That does not excuse some of the other poor play by Julienn, like first time passes of difficult balls coming out the sky to give away possession which should have resulted in another goal.

Needs to do the simple thing and not try to be Van Dijk.

  7. CORKCELT,

Correct.Been saying the same.Lenny will not gamble.Rightly so.He will have time to judge the new guys, but not until the league is won.

Defeats, draws and dropped points are inevitable.

Players are not robots and when they see off St Mirren, I think they’ll benefit from a couple of days rest before preparing for Mordor.

What concerns me (apart from the transfer policy) is the manager’s seeming inability to learn and adapt.

In all of Celtic’s set backs this season – second leg Cluj, 29th December, second leg Copenhagen, Livingston last night – he’s had prior warning on how the opposition will approach the game. Yet on all these occasions he’s been unable to select a team and tactical formation to prevail.

    That’s a worry for me.

  9. SIEMPRE,

Which VVD.Surely not the one from the last couple of games. The one he tried to pass coming down from a height last night, maybe ,instead of just knocking it out of play,he was thinking about the Livy throw ins,who knows.Anyway,no way I am on his case for a bad game.He has been a rock for around 95% of games.Perfection does not exist in football.

  10. Now that newco are in complete disarray, do we go there and sit in, which other teams are doing so effectively, or do we go for the jugular?

I think we would be best served 442, with:

    FF

    Elhamed, Julien, Ajer, Taylor

    McGregor, Brown, Ntcham, Christie

    Griff, Edouard

Play defenders in their natural position. Control midfield with guile and strength, no wingbacks, no wingers unless we have to chase game.

Stifle them and hit them on the break.

And yes, I know, JF will be first name on Lenny’s teamsheet. Hayes next.

  11. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Denia – generally agree: Hayes for Taylor and Rogic for Christie.

  12. THE BLOGGER,

Not a worry for me.Livingstone,at home, are a nightmare to play against when they get it right on that surface.Long balls into the channels, high balls into the middle constantly, feed off throw ins and set pieces.Big ,bruising squad.Very difficult to play against,or plan against.

    They do it very well.

SIEMPRE – no arguments from me – but they all make mistakes, even big Virgil.

If big Julienne keeps making the same mistakes, then we do have a problem – but I don’t think that we are anywhere near reaching that conclusion. Julienne was primarily bought to win headers in our own penalty area and I think he does that well. As an aside, my Chelsea supporting friend (I know, I know) assures me that they would have bought Julienne if it hadn’t been for the transfer embargo.

Incidentally, Griff’s absence from the starting lineup also lessens the threat of big Julienne in the opposition box – Griff is definitely the best in the team at delivering a dead ball into the penalty box – I would like to see him back in the side alongside Eddie.

  15. MacJay @ 9:19

Thanks for that. Very entertaining. The `keeper could have been given another yellow for his reaction immediately afterwards. That would have been too much !!

  16. Deniabhoy,

They will come at us so a repeat of the 2-0 tactics for me. Don’t be too open, flood the midfield and hit them with pace.

A draw is fine for us. All pressure is on them. They have a massive, energy-sapping game on their bog of a pitch next Thursday against a very good German team.

I think we’ll beat them and within that week Gerrard will be resigned like Warburton was…..

    What’s another court case?

Totally agree on Julienn and Griff.

Leigh gets goals, shoots from distance, links up well with Eddy, delivers real quality from corners and is a massive threat at direct free kicks.

The reshuffling to get Elyanoussi in is just not worth it for what he has offered recently.

  20. In the age of social media, any poor performance no matter what has preceded it will see some people go into hysterics.

Half the time I think it’s fans of other clubs taking the piss.

Our league form has been better than the last 2 years under Rodgers.

It’s easy to forget in Rodgers second season, we never went beyond a 4 match league winning run.

We’ve improved under, Neil. The players have upped the levels again on the back of a treble treble.

If we’re to improve though we must look at our mistakes and see what we can do better. Had we played another Copenhagen last night, we would have been beaten.

The match last night was similar in some ways to what we seen in the Copenhagen match. I commented on here with ten mins left that I’d no idea what our shape was or who was playing where. We were absolutely all over the shop and could have lost 3-1 had livi taken their chance presented by another defensive poor pass out.

We need to improve but we’ve plenty of time to do it before Europe comes round again.

We’re now down to one match a week and I expect to see a much improved team performance at Ibrox next week.

  21. TIM MALONE WILL TELL on 5TH MARCH 2020 9:35 AM

I doubt you’d be feeling so positive if they picked up 3 points at Ibrox.

Nobody is calling for Neil Lennon’s head. This is a great season.

But the result in isolation is what it is. 2 points dropped.

  22. I’d add my support for the calls to play Griff alongside Eddie. We get the best out of both players that way & teams will be more reluctant to push up on us if we’ve two men upfront for them to worry about.

  23. SID1888,

Of course it’s a blog but yours earlier was just 1 long whinge and methinks you’re a bit too sensitive to criticism – ‘lingering concerns’, ‘looked jaded’ (despite battering them for the last 30 minutes & off the back of that mudheap in Perth), ‘throw ins (jesus wept man), “Rogic’s reaction” & “contractual agreement to play Moi in TV games”….FFS, you missed out Scott Brown’s tape not fitting.

Conform? Must be joking. You’re in good company with many of the whingebags posting here since the final whistle. Tis also the way of the blog…

And, something my mate mentioned last night, is there a contractual agreement with Southampton that Mo Elyou has to play in televised games if he declares himself fully fit? Unusual I know but it would explain his selection in the cup final, Copenhagen and even last night. Was thinking that may also be the reason TR looked so pissed off!

Interestingly enough, they had Gary Caldwell on Sportsound on Monday.

They spoke to him about an incident where Boruc started a scrap with McGeady at training. There was no doubt that Boruc was the one who overstepped the mark. There was some talk about dropping Boruc for Mark Brown. Strachan decided that Boruc got a pass because of footballing reasons.

Gary Caldwell suggested that was the wrong thing to have done and that he had argued against it as a senior player.

  25. One of my favorite things I’ve seen from the great unwashed is talking about offloading players.

Here’s what one Orc thinks they will get:

    ‘Tav’ 7 million

    Goldson 6 million

    Davis 2 million

    Kamara 8 million

    Stewart 3 million

    Katic 2/3 million

    Flanagan 4 million

    I’m assuming that’s in yen

Of course I would have been feeling disappointed – but the reality is that Livi away was never going to be easy and had all the hallmarks of a game where points could be dropped whereas Hamilton at home looked like an easy 3 points.

Dropping points last night was not a major surprise – however, coming out of that fixture list a point to the good was a very pleasant bonus.

  27. My friends in Celtic,

The league table doesn’t lie. I am taking nothing for granted, but only the dark arts or a total collapse can cost us another 9 in a row won fairly and without cheating.

Now is the time to air our grievances. For a start , defend the 12 year old boy, question industrial tackles and refuse tickets for Grayskull, citing safety and repeated sectarian abuse. Then announce that the huns will no longer receive tickets for Parkhead.

Should we really expect to drop points to the team currently sitting 6th in the league?

    Sevco won comfortably there.

I know that’s a plastic pitch but we manage to win at Kilmarnock and Hamilton.

    Said it last night.

    Will say it again.

IMHO, zero value in assessing the performance of individuals based solely on last night.

That pitch is so far outside expected playing conditions as to render it an unfair sporting advantage (just like banned running shoes and swimsuits).

    Livi home/away records indicative.

  30. Back to Basics

Spot on. WGS highlighted that it’s a pitch where dribbling was impossible but of course hasn’t stopped the James Forrest haters from their invective.

Game over. Point gained. Closer to the flag. That’s all that matters.

  31. timaloy 29 if that was the case strachen must have hated McGeady would have loved him to try and dopped Roy Kean

    Timaloy29 – hilarious.

    Absolutely delusional.

For what it is worth, my humble opinion in brackets.

Tav’ 7 million (half that figure probably achievable to championship side)

Goldson 6 million (No takers. None. Guy has an underlying heart condition. Failed medical

    every time)

Davis 2 million (For a 35 year old journeyman? I love 34 year old Scott Brown but recognise we couldn’t sell him for £4m)

Kamara 8 million (divide by 20, sell to League 1 or 2 in England)

Stewart 3 million (divide by 10 on your best day. Fanciful)

Katic 2/3 million. (Actually agree with this one)

Flanagan 4 million (is that pounds or minutes of community service? A genuine zero value asset taking a wage .. in the non-Sevco world these are called LIABILITIES)

  33. If Neil Lennon goes for 352 against St Mirren I’d like to see a return for Boli or Hayes.

I think Frimpong is really hard done by. RWB doesn’t get the best out of Forrest yet he will play there because he cannot play anywhere else.

You thinks I’m a bit sensitive to criticism, well if I think it’s unfair then yes I probably am.

Think you’ve taken my original post out of context to suit your viewpoint.

If my post was one long whinge it clearly started off on the wrong footing:-

“Thought it was a good point irrespective of the Huns result as it could have easily been zilch albeit due to our own mistakes. Another game over and a point closer to 9IAR :-)”

Oh well, I’m sure Morelos will still go for £40 million and solve all their problems….

Think you are being kind to Tavernier. The guy was sold to Wigan for around 100k and subsequently sold to Sevco for about double that.

Any scout will have the ability to watch tape of defensive howler after defensive howler. The best place for ‘Tav’ is probably Sevco where 9/10 he’s not tested defensively. I dunno if he’d survive down south.

As for Katic, I think it’s similar to Grezda. He only has built himself a reputation in Croatia. They could, in theory, sell him to a Croatian side but they aren’t exactly cash-rich and will be aware it’s a buyers market. Six figures at best.
