*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2023-24*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #8 – LIVINGSTON 0 CELTIC 3 (HATATE, O’RILEY, MAEDA)*
Good evening, friends.
Over the years, Livingston (away) was always one we dreaded, almost entirely down to the shocking carpet of a pitch. But I wonder how many folk share my opinion that yesterday was our finest ever performance on that particular surface! We’ve been patiently waiting for things to click under Brendan mark 2 and during the first 25 minutes my own pre-match nerves had subsided. Even after the deserved sending off of Joe Hart I really didn’t sense that we were going to drop anything. What was also pleasing was the noticeable delight on everyone’s faces at the final whistle.
We have now played 8 games, winning 5, drawing 1 and losing 2 with 14 goals scored and 6 conceded.
A huge thank you to the 76 who voted this week. A special thanks to the 16 who nominated the same 3 as me. I think this is actually the first time my own picks have filled the top 3 places.
The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.
Hart: 0
Johnston: 6
Lagerbielke: 1
Scales: 16
Taylor*: 35
McGregor: 29
O’Riley*: 74
Hatate: 1
Forrest: 0
Kyogo: 2
Maeda*: 64
Bain: 0
Iwata: 0
Oh: 0
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Livingston are –
We have 6 more sleeps until our next game, away to Motherwell. It’s a 12.30pm kick off as Motherwell FC are offering it as a Pay Per View game.

Our away supporters have a tendency to share a romantic view of the IRA. Perhaps because for the most part they grew up in the post Good Friday era. As such they should avoid reading today’s Herald, and in particular the “exclusive” by Neil Mackay; ‘Steaknife the inside story of the spy inside the IRA’ Leaving aside the writer’s claim to have been the first to put a name to ‘Steaknife’ twenty years ago, which I find improbable, it will still be uneasy reading for our youthful rebels. It does though serve as a a review of a book, published this week, by Richard O’Rawe who knew Freddie Scappaticci, on the very same subject. We await still the report on ‘Operation Kenova’ which looked into the actions of the FRU, (Force Research Unit), assuming it finally gets published. With Scappaticci dying in London in April maybe that will now happen.
