OLIVER ABILDGAARD looks to be heading back to Denmark to reunite with is first club Aalborg, as CQN forecast last week.
Celtic are poised to scrap the towering midfielder’s loan contract after only nine appearances for the champions, all from the substitutes’ bench.
Abildgaard was among the stand-by squad in the 2-2 draw at Ibrox on Monday, but didn’t get the nod to join the action as the champions maintained their nine-point advantage at the Premiership pinnacle.
PARADISE LOST…Oliver Abildgaard has failed to impress at Celtic.
It could be one of the 26-year-old Dane’s last involvements with the Hoops’ matchday squad following his failure to impress boss Ange Postecoglou who brought him to the club as a deadline-day signing from Rubin Kazan.
Abildgaard became the third player to be brought in from the Russian club following the capture of Carl Starfelt in July 2021 and Sead Haksabanovic a year later.
But he hasn’t featured since coming on for the final 10 minutes in a 2-1 win at Fir Park at the start of last month.
It is unlikely he will return to Rubin who may attempt to put him out on loan again, as reported in the Glasgow Times.
HEADING FOR HOOPS EXIT…Yosuke Ideguchi’s time at Parkhead looks to be over.
Abildgaard spent five years at Aalborg before moving to Russia in June 2020 after an initial loan period.
The Dane could be followed through the Parkhead exit by Yosuke Ideguchi who has also failed to convince following his arrival a year ago from Osaka Gamba.
Coincidentally, it looks as though the Japanese defensive midfielder will be heading back to his former J-League outfit.
Postecoglou has just completed the signing of his one-time Yokohama F Marinos’ anchorman Tomaki Iwata on a five-year contract at the international is expected in Gasgow within the week.
